I personally wouldn't lug mine out. I would bring my MBP, or iPad Air. However if it were my only device, then I would get a keyboard case for it, or honestly sell it along for money towards a MacBook.

They look silly in public lol.
I agree. The ridicule and shame that I experience every time I lug mine into the local Starbucks has really had an effect on my self-esteem. OK, so carrying a 12.9 iPad Pro is like walking with a windshield from a Mini Cooper under my arm. Does that mean that I'm less of a person? Is that a license to point at me and snicker with derision?

(the above is obviously sarcasm)

My 12.9 iPad Pro, clear skin covering the back, and ASK is thinner and lighter than an MBP. When I need access to macOS, I can use my Citrix X1 mouse with my iPP to connect to my iMac... or use the touch interface. Jump Desktop does a terrific job with implementing touch to control the mouse. It has been the most portable and flexible notebook-like device that I've owned so far.

And why is that?

Personally I feel confortable using the ipad Pro with Smart keyboard in public. Why not? I can also see lots of Surface Pro users in public.
I can't believe this thread is still going. I see men dressed as women in Starbucks. I see people with crazy neck tattoos, huge gauges, ridiculous neon hair in Starbucks. All of those things are far more embarrassing than using your IPP 12.9 in public.

I bring mine to Starbucks for drawing. I don't own a laptop, nor do I want one. Everything I would do at Starbucks when I'm there, surfing the web, checking email, or Drawing. I don't need a laptop for. So I find the remarks about it being silly kind of silly themselves. I can personally care less what anyone thinks about me bringing mine. I really don't focus on what other people use either. I've seen a guy bring a Wacom tablet to Starbucks, I actually talked with him as he was a graphic artist there for a meeting. I didn't think it was strange or silly. So not just laptops I've seen there. To each his own.

None of those things should be embarrassing, really. As this thread proves, people worry too much about what others think about their own personal choices.

Even though it's smaller than both devices you would bring instead?

It feels very fragile to lug around without a case IMO. I have seen a few guys working on them with the otter box or similar rugged cases. For me they seemed pretty gauche. I am no slave to fashion, but the iPad pro is a very over indulgent device, and especially in a oakleyesque case you end up looking pretty silly.

Feel free to disagree with me, but people will be judging you for toting a gigantic iPad around.

I can see it now. "OMG, do you see that guy over there using a giant iPad? Over there, sitting next to the guy with the 17 inch laptop with an Ethernet port, cd drive, 35 USB ports, and a 30 minute battery life with his power brick hanging off of the end of the table and teathered to the wall. Wow, who would dream of carrying a 13 inch device that thin and light with that great of a battery life in public? Next thing you'll tell me is he's accomplishing real work on that thing."

They are not waiting to see which iPad you have to judge you. You cannot let them control you. Be your own man. Be your own woman.

You will be judged anyway sitting in a Starbucks, the McDonald's of coffee places. ;)

I was just in Starbucks this past weekend with my Pro 12.9. No weird looks at all, as most of the people in there were on their Apple devices (9.7 iPad / Macbook Pros). So, they were aware of what the 12.9 iPad looked like. Oddly enough, the 12.9 iPad doesn't even feel that big once you get used to the size. At first, you're like, "Wow!" Once you use it for a couple of weeks, it's normal to me...kinda how the Plus iPhone was for most.

Starbucks is the McDonald's of coffee. I rarely ever step foot in one around me. However when I am traveling, and need a place to get some work done I will seek them out. Not for the coffee but for a place to sit, and focus.
