No it's because of the bigger sensor. The Air 2 (same thickness as Pro 9.7) and the Pro 12.9 have the same 1/4" sensor, and hence has rubbish quality. It's sad, but people actually do use iPads to take photos, so they just equipped it with the best that they currently have.

Yes and No. The 12.9" iPad Pro is also thicker at 6.9mm vs the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro 9.7" at 6.1mm so the 12mp camera would stick out much less on the current 12.9" if at all. Of course we all know the next 12.9" will be even thinner so it's probably a moot point going forward.

Not only that, I believe that true tone thing really going to bother us, digital artists. We don't want display color changed(or adjusted) based on the lights we are surrounded by. I want same condition always, then the colors I pick on my iPad Pro is consistent. Plus 12.9" has much better resolution. I use split screen when I use preference to draw and I like it, that is not gonna be comfortable enough to do on 9.7". Even don't use split screen function, it's small enough space to work on, I felt.

Absolutely. Luckily, based on some of the first look videos, it's seeming like the True Tone display is toggleable in Settings.

Think of it from them, what will general consumers whine about most? Increased depth or protruding camera? Either way they will sell millions - this forum is never happy....
I guarantee you most people buying won't even have a ****ing clue what 'increased depth' means or notice the camera is protruding at something like 12MP.

It would, but it doesn't. It has the same 8MP camera that the Air 2 has. The 12MP camera would be able to fit in that body, but we'll have to wait until the next gen to get that.

I really think something is wrong at apple - they used to be about design simplicity in software and hardware; various examples of software being a mess (Im looking at you iTunes and ios Music app) where they make design changes for the sake of making changes while making it less usable, and now this camera bump in the ipad. Taking notes on a device that doesnt lay flat? What were they thinking?? Did they really need to make that sacrifice on a device where the camera is much more of a non-essential add-on vs. say an iPhone? They could have kept the Air 2 camera or improved it slightly, but who is buying an ipad just for the camera?

All good things must come to an end. I still think Apple products tend to be the best out there, but mystical love they were able to inspire from me is gone.

Not everyone wants to use a case. I like the thinness of the iPad and don't want to bulk it up.

Really? This "issue" has you flummoxed? There will be about nine thousand vendors selling little stick on bumpers to offset the lens, assuming that it is a problem in the first place. Or you could meander down to the hardware store and buy a small cabinet saver for 12 cents...

A nice case is the solution to this horrifying problem for me.

This goes to my original point on design. I think the vast majority agree that a product that needs another just to use in the way it is intended conceptually - i.e., writing on a stable, non-wobbly surface - is just bad design.

How big is this bump, anyway? I'm looking at the bump on my iPhone 6, and if it's this size bump on something as big as the 9.7 iPad, is it really going to bother people while drawing? Traditional drawing media isn't always completely flat, like if you have a sketch pad with a spine, and people have been managing to draw on them for hundreds of years without being bothered.

Sorry you did not approve. The OP simply summed it up and said he was leaving and I was being nice and telling him good bye. Your post was so smart, too!

you had replied to my post so I assumed you were talking to me. Gotta love the interweb!

My guess is its about the same as the 6; I agree with you about people not drawing on flat surfaces and dealing with a spine, but in those situations the paper isnt wobbly, its stable and thats what I think is the key.

Because the hump is in only in one corner, the device is going to have some wobble to it, no different than a table where one leg is slightly shorter than the others. Imagine what a pain it can be to sit and eat at that table, let alone draw/write on it, its simply not stable - Im sure we've all experienced this in restaurants and the waiter needs to put a towel under one leg to stabalize the table. You can put your naked 6 down and press down lightly on different parts and you will see what I mean.

Not going to take my iPhone out of its case just to test this, but that's what I mean. The bump on the phone is so small, it's negated by a thin case. I'll take your word for it that on a device the size of the phone, this causes a significant wobble, but on a device as big as a 9.7 iPad, that wobble is going to be a lot less, isn't it?

Completely blown out of proportion as usual. Seriously, who doesn't use a case with a 600+ dollar device that will scratch if you stare at it wrong.

I have never used a case any any iPad or iPhone I own and have never scratched or damaged one. Why does everyone have to do everything the way you do or else they are doing it wrong?

I tried my IPP 12.9 without the back cover and inside a few weeks had a big scratch right through the Apple logo. It has a cover now.
