I’m done with giving Apple a constant pass, just because it’s Apple.

I’ve been burnt by them far too many times recently.

I will be getting a new iPad Pro, now that I’ve got my money back under Consumer Law for my 10.5”.

The new iPad Pro is patently fragile.

Simple as.
Wait. You sounded like you were salty about apple and said you will be getting a new iPad Pro. Did you mean won’t?

Don’t forget you can still add it. You have 60 days. I added after watching the first drop test video.
:p Yeah.
Better get it exchanged later.

This freaking soft thing kind of remind me of the iPhone 5, in the negative sense. The dings, dents and the soft aluminium case.

After watching several videos showing just how flimsy the new iPads are I’m not going to get one. One video was very objective and he seemed to be an Apple fan but the fact is it looks too fragile.

I had problems with touch disease on my 6 pluS so even if it’s not visibly bent the touch screen may not tolerate it.

Form follows function - Apple seem to be just going for thinness and lightness for the sake of it

They start at $1200 sorry that’s serious money for something so delicate

I don't know about bendability but this thing is really soft. Even with the Smart Keyboard Folio on the 2018 iPad Pro can ding/dent seriously for any drop. It happened to me and I felt so bad about it. All my previous iPads and iPhones were much stronger than this. Fortunately now mine is covered under AppleCare+........

This iPad does make me think about my previous iPhone 5 - all the scuffs and discolouration on the soft aluminium Apple used on it....

any device dings if you drop it....and aluminium is indeed a light and soft metal.

You missed my point. Of course everything is prone to damage when dropped. But the degree is different.

Previous iPads were always made by aluminium at the sides and the back and I did drop them and none of them was damaged as serious as this one.

I bumped my 1st gen iPad Pro ever so slightly against the sink of my toilet and it made a ding straight away on the chamfered edge.

Even worse were the dings the magnets of the Smart Keyboard made in the aluminium side.

Seriously thinking that the 329 Ipad may be the better daily driver for many folk.

Irrespective of... or maybe because the glass on the new one seems too thin (distorts under pressure)... I don't want the worry - no matter how pretty it is.

The old 10.5 seems to have white spot disease...so I would be worried about buying that one.

My 11 inch iPad pro fell from my bike handlebars and it doesn’t have a blemish on it - it was in a cheap tpu case and the handlebar mount itself will have given it some protection ( plus it only fell on to carpet) so i don’t think it’s super fragile.

The funny thing is when I looked at the workout afterwards you can see the spike in my heart rate when it fell off!

Well, I’m 50 and I find it interesting that you seem to have time to “waste” posting often in these threads dismissing the issue at hand. Additionally, you requested the OP provide photos with a steel ruler which he provided. Yet you don’t have time to take a photo of your device which you state is fine. It comes across as a bit one-sided.

He is a troll feeding. Nothing more.

Well I would like some advice. I'm still in my return window with my new 12.9 IPP. I ask the collective, because I have a 2015 IPP that was I just about to sell. I'm happy with the new IPP. But if this is a legitimate issue, I'll return it and buy a new MBA then, and keep my 2015 IPP. Don't know what to do. I'm not clumsy and I have never straight up dropped my iPads but if people think this warrants serious concern I'd rather return it seeing as I wanted a macbook at some point for grad school. TIAFAR.
Return it. Functionally it offers nothing new other than a weaker redesigned shell.

Mine came out of the box like this. Appears very slightly bent on the LTE “seam” on both top and bottom. Very hard to capture on camera, but it’s there.

Never been in a backpack. Went from box to case to desk.

Let me get this straight.

You were on the throne taking a massive boris, all while surfing the web on your iPad Pro 12.9?

Then while trying to keep the touching of your iPad to a minimum you accidentally bumped it on the sink?

Then it left some white marks on the iPad case?

I think there is a lesson here, but I'm not sure what it is.

The new 2018 12.9” does feel more delicate than the 1st gen iPad 12.9”.

I now avoid storing it in my soft briefcase with any smaller items in the neighboring soft compartment. A large flat item placed next to a smaller one can generate surprisingly high orthogonal forces causing a bend.

I never needed to be this careful with transporting all of my older iPads but this newer one definitely feels much thinner and more delicate.

Good then there’s more for the rest of us. By the way my new 12.9 is flawless. I travel with it on a laptop bag every day and it’s perfectly fine.

Why do people keep acting either overly offensivemy or defensively? First of all, just because your iPad Pro is fine it doesn’t mean that others don’t have a problem without putting it under extreme hazards. On the other hand, just because there is an issue it doesn’t mean that it is so severe that happens to everyone so the device is crap. Based on all the videos so far, as well as common logic due to shape and size, it appears that the new iPad Pro is more prone to bends than previous models and people having issues with don’t necessarily treat their devices badly or have an agenda. I have the new iPad Pro and I’m very happy with it, but I won’t defend it just for the sake of it.

Just a note of caution, many steel ‘rulers’ aren’t actually straight - that’s because they aren’t intended to be straight edges. If you’re really going to use a ruler-like thingy, you need a machinist’s straight edge, like a Starrett.

I actually own a laboratory grade A granite surface plate to check for flatness of my tools and agree that most rulers are not straight.

There’s no issue with it, you put a force to any material and it bends or breaks, it’s as simple as that. You can bend spoons, break baseball bats, you can even make dents on your cars with a simply kick.

These electronic devices are not designed for being bent or scratched , it’s not their function and there’s no claim from Apple stating that these iPads are bend proof, waterproof, scratch proof or fool proof....

Unless of course Apple would be designing these devices with construction grade steel....but that would just be silly wouldn’t it?

That is VERY bent. Either a manufacturing defect or warped during shipping (eg. temp changes)

Everyone is going to ignore your post and continue to insist that it's the user's fault, to just not sit on them (obviously).

That looks more like a kink than a bend. Or could it be an optical illusion?

if there’s a kink like that surely you also notice something on the screen edges too, have they popped out?

No you can’t just disregard an issue by just saying “if you apply an X amount of force it’s going to bend”. Obviously everything bends or breaks under certain conditions.

What’s under discussion here is whether this X force is lower than what past models could withstand and most importantly lower than what someone expects from a portable device.

This device was designed to be portable, put into bags, used during traveling and ultimately used under scenarios where you could use a laptop. It might not be designed to be bent but it isn’t designed to stay on people’s couches and be treated like jewelry either.

People gotta justify their purchases. If something is wrong with some iPads, they might have the flaw too and that means they just spent $2k for a product that bends like paper.

There’s two kinds of people. Those that take their iPads when they go poop and those that’s lie about it
