I have the feeling, that there is no straight iPad. All the pictures and people complaining. One single picture of a straight iPad would be nice!

Dude. Seriously? It’s easy. Watch any one of the thousands of legit video reviews for the new iPad Pro on YouTube. Straight as a board. No bends. It’s all there for you to see if you are willing to look. Or better yet, go down to your local Apple Store and see for yourself. There is no substitute for direct experience. Actually hold one in your own hands. Wow. What a concept!

I don't think it's easy. You need a measurement tool like in the pictures. Doing this in an apple store maybe looks stupid lol.

Hey man, I brought in a tape measure to the Apple store when I was trying to decide btwn the 11” & 12.9”! I didn’t care. Lol. This is a big purchase. I couldn’t care less what anyone thought. I asked the Apple store employee if I could slide the iPad pros into my backpack to see if they fit! Go for it man. Test the heck out of it before you buy. I even did my own flex test on both iPads. Seemed solid enough for me. Just don’t try bending it over your knee or do a drop test. That would probably be baaad. Mmm Kay? Mmm kay.

View attachment 804893 9 out of the top 10 google search results for the new iPad Pro are of that dude who made that YouTube bending video. He has over 2 million views now. He’s making a sh*t ton of cash off of everyone. My point is, take all these bending videos for what they are, clickbate cash cows for the ones who create them. They don’t care if it is accurate, they do it for every Apple product that comes out. They do it for the $$$ and nothing else. I would strongly advise you to base your opinion on real world experiences. Go to the store and feel them for yourself. Ask your friends who already have one. Cheers!
And yet the mods throw it up on the front page of this site. By Monday morning it will probably have 1000 posts. Sigh.

Yeah I know. All the Apple sites posted it. At least Apple insider did it with an eye roll and dissed the guy who made the video. But yeah, it’s like it doesn’t matter to him. Good or bad, Any attention is money for him.

What a shocker!

The iPad bends when you grab it at the outer sides and put a great amount of pressure at the center of the device, it scratches when abused with a razer sharp knife and it even turns black when torching it with a lighter... How dare you Apple!

Seriously, what do people expect? A chassis made of half kevlar, half German panther tank and bulletproof glass?

I've never bend a single phone or tablet, ever. Take care of your products and stop watching these idiotic, clickbait movies.

We have empirical evidence that the new iPad pro bends more easily than previous versions.

Your exaggeration does not disprove this in any way.

I was suspecting this when Apple introduced 3rd gen with less thickness. What I didn't see first though was structural gap or opening on the side due to the pencil charging. Less thickness and opening hindering its structural integrity has already happend with iPhone6 plus with volume button holes.

I will skip this 3rd gen and keep my 12.9 2nd gen. This kind of weakness in this price level is totally unacceptable.

About that supposed structural integrity issue. Keep in mind this simple fact... the guy who did the bending video (for clicks) GOUGED OUT the plastic in the charging gap with a friggin knife before bending it!! Thus compromising it’s structural integrity. Will you do that? Will you Gouge out the plastic charging port in normal everyday usage? Umm...I would guess no. So come on man. Use your head. Are you really gonna let a video created for clickbate money sway you? If you don’t wanna buy a new iPad Pro based on solid first hand experience that’s cool. But don’t let a known Apple bashing clickbate YouTuber who only wants to make money be the deciding factor. That would be Bad! Mmm Kay!

People were saying not to put your iphone in your back pocket when iPhone 6+ issue happened.
Friggin plastic cannot hold the entire pad stronger with that big hole in the middle of that side which is already thinner. That with 12.9" one can see with his/her common sense that it gotta be weak. We shall see who is right probably in a year because I 100% suspect that Apple will reinforce 4th gen iPad in that area.

Me not wanting to buy 3rd gen is none of your business anyway. I'm just expressing my thought and decision making process in this forum. Good day.

Dude. Buy or don’t buy. I don’t care. If you read what I wrote, I said do whatever you want, that’s cool. I was pointing out the fact(which you totally ignored)...that the guy who bent the iPad, CUT OUT the plastic insert. If you do not think that has any influence on structural integrity...um...I don’t know what else to tell ya. Also, the YouTuber in question is a known Apple basher who makes these videos cause he knows they will get clicks and make him lots of money. So I pointed that out as well to hopefully let other people who are on the fence not to base their decision on it. I am not here to tell you or anyone what they should or shouldn’t do. This is a forum. When people post, other people respond. Lastly, I doubt Apple will ever go back to the previous charging method for the first Apple Pencil...so based on what you wrote, I guess this will be your last iPad Pro considering Apple will keep the new charging method which you think compromises its structural integrity.

Lol it was like a sticker thin piece of black plastic covering the pencil charge port he peeled off. The port guts itself weren't removed.

I guess that sticker thin piece is "structural" now.

I'm an Apple fan and still wouldn't chose another phone over the iphone (unless prices go up more and too cost prohibitive), but this is ridiculous now making excuses for Apple's poor design yet again.

Oh seriously as you have seen in the video there was literally no frame inside the iPad Pro holding things, so how can you not question the structural integrity of a damn tablet that cost that much?

It's so sad defending nearly a TRILLION dollar company charging $1000 for something clearly built like crap structurally by dismissing valid claims with "dont buy it" or "put a case on it."

How about that trillion dollar company just spend that extra $1-2 per unit and reinforce the flimsy metal around pencil charge port and put a few metal supports between the display and rear shell.

We should be defending the customer, all of us combined, not the faceless trillion dollar corporation.

Are there supportive frames in Apple laptops? Educate me please.

Thank you for attempting to bring some common sense to this issue. I'm planning to do a video to skim my new iPad Pro across a field of landmines later this week. How do I capitalize on that? I'm new to this "clickbait" thing. Note, I have a backup plan to bring my iPad to a kickboxing gym soon:confused: Oh, wait. I think by posting this I've joined the "clickbait" club. My Paypal address to follow. Thank you for your support!

You know this is all BS when even Marco Arment is saying it’s not a legit issue. It’s not like Marco never criticizes the company. It’s all about stupid you tubers getting clicks.

Macbooks also bends but it requires force cause the body itself is thick enough to act as a frame. While the iPad Pro's body is too thin for it to act as a frame to reinforce the whole thing that's why it bends so easy without any effort.

Well I would like some advice. I'm still in my return window with my new 12.9 IPP. I ask the collective, because I have a 2015 IPP that was I just about to sell. I'm happy with the new IPP. But if this is a legitimate issue, I'll return it and buy a new MBA then, and keep my 2015 IPP. Don't know what to do. I'm not clumsy and I have never straight up dropped my iPads but if people think this warrants serious concern I'd rather return it seeing as I wanted a macbook at some point for grad school. TIAFAR.

If those are the buying options I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the new Air. From a usability standpoint, your former Pro and newer one are almost identical in functionality (except for Promotion, which isn’t that big of a deal). You’ll get much more functionality out of MacOS than you will on any iPad, and you’d have the best of both worlds that way. Just my opinion.

My reference is to the screen only, if one were to bend it. I've owned many Apple laptops, and I will concede a closed Apple laptop, including those not made of aluminum (I owned the "toilet seat one in orange ;) would be harder to bend than the current iPad Pro. If I wanted something more rugged, yes I'd get an Apple laptop, assuming force would be applied in a closed state and not pressuring the opened display.

Well you don't put your laptop inside your bag opened right? o_O

I'm pretty sure the testing of the iPad wasn't in a bag.Though, I have posted I was reviewing my camera bags for protection against damage with use of my current iPad with camera equipment. Let me concede that a naked iPad 2018 would not be as rugged as a closed Apple laptop. But this doesn't mean the iPad is flawed because I do not think my earlier iPad would be less vulnerable under normal circumstances. Again, the testing seen in the video is not scientific. Even if the new iPad were less durable the question would be by how much. Where is Ralph Nader when you need him ;)

Well the older iPads also can get bent too but it requires more force unlike this current iPad Pro it's like you just bent a cardboard, he just bent it with no effort, I didn't even saw his hands shake a bit. o_O

And I was just about to buy one next week... damn :(

I'd say in all honesty just check them out and/or look at the earlier versions. Otherwise check out the laptops. The reality is, if you like Apple, there certainly is something for everyone. In the meantime I'll tempt fate with my 12.9 and let people know if I have to eat my words regarding other's concerns about reliability. I'm happy to be a guinea pig as I've owned many Apple products since the //+, the first Mac, to "Infinity and Beyond? ;)
