While I am not surprised these iPADs are fragile and there are many defective units out there (just look at the 10.5 thread about a bright spot in the screen, which seem to appear after the 1 year warranty) I am still amazed to this day there are people which use them without putting any cover in the front and back.

Worse, these tablets are taken anywhere without any regard for their safety. I wouldn't use an iPAD without a smart cover/rear case even if I was paid to do it! The mere thought of using it naked like that is painful.

I care so much about my stuff that I bring a microfiber cloth with it 24/7. A year after I started using the screen is in perfect condition. I also use a tablet stand.

And my iPAD never leaves the house. I don't regard as a mobile device.

These things are too expensive for me to do this, anyway. Perhaps if the cost was down to US$ 300-400 then I would gladly disregard what I just said.

Not when your investiment is over 1K, which frankly I am done with, the 10.5 was the last one I was willing to pay that much.

I am not that eager to trust a company that wants to hide unit sales and focuse on thickness instead of improving hardware in a meaningful way, not to mention the crippled iOS. A thicker iPAD to allow for improved battery or adding something else like a 2nd USB-C port or the headphone jack must be the last thing on these idiots minds.

Coming from an iPad 3 first thing i noticed with my new 10.5 was they seem a bit..... well fragile. I guess if people want thin and light this is the result. You would need to take care carrying these in a backpack i would think. Opinions?

This is very much reminiscent of the cheap plastic Nextbit Robin, that failed similarly, difference is that it wasn't a +$1000 device:

That looks more like a kink than a bend. Or could it be an optical illusion?

if there’s a kink like that surely you also notice something on the screen edges too, have they popped out?

Not that I can tell or feel. Bottom is same way, just reversed since the antenna seam is on other side.

That is VERY bent. Either a manufacturing defect or warped during shipping (eg. temp changes)

Everyone is going to ignore your post and continue to insist that it's the user's fault, to just not sit on them (obviously).

Probably....but I haven’t/didn’t.

Just check my 11 inch pro and it has a bend to it across the screen. Basically you lay the pencil on it and it sits at the center point and has slight gaps at the edges.

Deciding what to do...

so I got my 12.9” 256gb cellular on launch day. I saw the video from everythingapplepro on YouTube. I wasn’t too worried because I assumed it was like that since the integrity of the device was faulty from all the drops. But today I realized mine has a slight bend. In less than a week it’s bent. Just had it in my backpack after a weekend of travel. Im disappointed on how easily this is able to bend. Time for a otter box defender
Take it back to the Apple store. Premium devices shouldn’t bend that easy.

Faulty product. Take it back to the Apple store.

Seriously thinking that the 329 Ipad may be the better daily driver for many folk.

Irrespective of... or maybe because the glass on the new one seems too thin (distorts under pressure)... I don't want the worry - no matter how pretty it is.

The old 10.5 seems to have white spot disease...so I would be worried about buying that one.

9.7 inches, no lamination, hard pass

I returned my Ipad 2018 to buy the new 11 inch Ipad Pro but after handling the device it appears too fragile for a 800 US or 750 UK device. The iPad 2018 basic model feels more premium than the new pro. I travel a lot with a rucksack and although I am careful the device feels really fragile to hold unlike the old pro or the basic model. Why did Apple make it so thin. It has been mentioned it is like the iPhone SE. I have an SE and it feels strong and tough the new iPad pro feels cheap.

I’ve had my iPad 12.9 since day one in and out of my bag, have been on 4 flights in the past week and some commute travel.

No problems, no bend. And don’t find the device at all fragile.....

And if indeed this was such a widespread problem we would have heard about it much more than a few references to a YouTube video and a handful of people in this forum

Anyone else sick of these videos?

We don’t need to scratch things, burn things and bend things to know they’ll eventually break. Same thing happens to electronic devices as literally everything else! Shocker!

I’d rather see these Youtubers send the money they’re spending on destorying perfectly fine devices to someone or somewhere that could actually use those funds.

$1000 can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Maybe we should stop giving these guys views, because as someone said in either this thread or another, it’s just wanton destruction for the mere sake of it. Pretty gross.

Like this?

This is an iPad 11" that's only been used on a table with the Apple folio cover the pencil has had very little use. Maybe the pencil's have a curve to them I don't have a straight edge at home to check.

Why does everyone think everything is going to be 100% 90 degree angles?

Your marble counter top at home isn’t perfect. The floor isn’t perfect. Your car isn’t perfect. The earth isn’t a perfect sphere. Human faces aren’t even symmetrical! Why do we expect a mass produced item to be 100% perfect?

Look, if you gave me your iPad, I doubt I would have even noticed that it’s ‘bent’...that’s HARDLY anything at all, and if could very well be the pencil and not the iPad.

Here’s what you need to ask yourself: does is ‘flaw’ (if there is one) affect your use of the iPad? , return it and don’t buy a new one. If no, use it like you normally world and move on.

not sure what I’m looking at here. A light reflection on your iPad?

Image is super blurry as well.

I’ve noticed that the aluminium sheet on the rear of the device is, weak is the wrong word but it appears there is a gap between it and the internals.

If pushed in the right (wrong) area, it could easily flex and cause a dip in the aluminium.

I think Apple were aware of the extra care required to keep these devices in good shape. Hence the folio style case. When in the folio it feels like it has more than enough protection, they’re very rigid.

I'm not worried about it as its not effecting the device's usage this is a replacement unit from a device that suffered a fault where the pencil would not work correctly because of the screen flexing. this unit does not do that so I'm happy was just pointing out to the person I quoted that maybe the pencils have a curve to them so its not a reliable why of checking. I could of said that better but my English skills are pretty poor.

This is just what I found with my pencil.

I retried with a ruler and it was much less evident. Almost not there but it was uneven on the back side.

I only see pictures and videos of bent iPads. Could someone show pictures of straight iPads? Are there any?

I found the only area when using the ruler is the middle of the screen it seems to be slightly raised.

Could the section with the magnet on the pencil be raising the iPad surface ever so slightly around the contact area?

9 out of the top 10 google search results for the new iPad Pro are of that dude who made that YouTube bending video. He has over 2 million views now. He’s making a sh*t ton of cash off of everyone. My point is, take all these bending videos for what they are, clickbate cash cows for the ones who create them. They don’t care if it is accurate, they do it for every Apple product that comes out. They do it for the $$$ and nothing else. I would strongly advise you to base your opinion on real world experiences. Go to the store and feel them for yourself. Ask your friends who already have one. Cheers!

Yeah, but no. Pretty lame device if this is the case. I don't want to have to bend things back into shape. I would say something about the "pro" moniker and the concept of durability in a working environment, but that's all out the window with crApple.
Ok, I knew there was some bias here. Anyone using the term “CrApple” has an axe to grind and is not thinking clearly.

He’s also one of the most anti Apple tech guys and he’s constantly wrong and biased.

I have the feeling, that there is no straight iPad. All the pictures and people complaining. One single picture of a straight iPad would be nice!
