This is 2018. Where is our GRAPHENE-based backplane reinforcement?

They could at least incorporate a honeycomb reinforcement in the back cover.

So what’s this have to do with anything related to this thread?

Did you even read my post?

Apple releases a tablet that kills off all competition, just look how this beast of an iPad renders a 4K video....

We live in an age of fake news

Coincidently and all of the sudden there’s a dude on YouTube bending an iPad...

No widespread news or complaints of other problems with bending apart from a handful of people on a know apple forum.

So those on here with bent iPads are also in on it?

That’s your own conclusion!

I take everything I read on the internet nowadays with a big pinch of salt
Yep. So do I. But I think any rational person with any sense of objective reality would see the bend tests and be concerned about long term durability.

There’s fake news, but there’s also the push back. There’s this sense that we can’t trust ANYTHING we see these days to the point where we question things as nauseum. What’s needed is balance.

Is this you tuber’s motivation sensationalism and to get clicks? Sure. That’s abundantly obvious. But what we saw with how easily the iPad snapped in half is concerning because no force was needed AND the way in which it broke actually lends credence to what he said: there are compromised parts of the iPad’s structure that makes it so it’s easy to snap. Like literally snap. Like a kit kat bar!

Last year’s iPad bend test showed bending. This is snapping. That combined with people getting their iPads and out of the box they’re bent.

Facts: the new iPad is the thinnest iPad ever and by that fact alone, unless they reinforced it, will be more breakable. This should be obvious right?

No do we go in an outrage over this and talk about it endlessly? No. But we also shouldn’t dispute facts because we are pushing back against being outraged because we have outrage fatigue. The new iPad is not built well and I have serious concerns about day to day usage. Should a portable device you are meant to put in a bag and take with you worry you? Should you have to baby something like this?

I don’t know man. Personally right now I can’t help but cringe at the fact anybody would deny the issues and give apple a pass on making something less durable than the last

Agree with you but look other iPads were bent with as much ease as this one.

Just look at the Air from 4 years ago:

We could be here all week discussing this but until I see a proper widespread of bending complains and until I see my own iPad, which I’ve now owned for 2 weeks, bent then I’m still on the fence about this bendgate story.

Soooo it bent a little? Ouch. Why don’t people that do that wear gloves or something? I’d be so scared to get broken glass all up in my hands.

My main concern is how well it will do under everyday conditions. Backpacks and bags. If a youtuber could just like take a caseless iPad and cram it in his overstuffed bag and use it for a month and report back, that would mean a lot to me.

Just because we haven’t seen the forum blown up with posts about bent iPads doesn’t mean there’s no issue. I have a white spot on my 10.5 that’s pretty common that apple doesn’t even acknowledge as an issue even though it clearly is.

I’ve got my new 11inch pro coming on Tuesday (giggidy) so I’m hoping like you man that these concerns are overblown. We’ll see

I had the white spot problem on my 1st gen iPad Pro 12.9 but was too lazy to go complain and still got good money for it on eBay.

Regarding the bending what I’ve seen so far on the forum are people complaining about a kink along the antenna band and most of them claim it was like that straight out of the box

That could well be a production fault and we don’t even know what tolerances Apple has in their production line and how straight these iPads are expected to be.

My concern is the lack of cases so far. Also, what about good cases- that support the pencil being charged.

I’m going case-less. I did buy a travel case for it and all my other accoutrement (look at that fancy word!), - Smatree Carry Case for 12-13.3 inch MacBook Laptop Case

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076Q5S4WV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Ivx8Bb9CWEBPA

And when I’m at home, I made my own drawing pad to sit my iPad in while I draw, which I made from a yoga pad.

It’s two layers, so the top layer is cut out so the iPad fits snugly into the pad, and my wrist (while drawing) is flush with the screen.

And the Pencil DOES ‘snap on’ and charge to the iPad with the rubber grip on it!

Are there supportive frames in Apple laptops? Educate me please.
[doublepost=1542505557][/doublepost]

Thank you for attempting to bring some common sense to this issue. I'm planning to do a video to skim my new iPad Pro across a field of landmines later this week. How do I capitalize on that? I'm new to this "clickbait" thing. Note, I have a backup plan to bring my iPad to a kickboxing gym soon:confused: Oh, wait. I think by posting this I've joined the "clickbait" club. My Paypal address to follow. Thank you for your support!
Someone should sew a huge pocket on some skinny jeans, put the 12.9 in the pocket, sit on it and make a YouTube video.

That’s a nice looking bag/case. Do let us know what you think of it when you get it.

Reminds me of the In-and-Out Burger employees who take your order while waiting in the car line.
[doublepost=1542563943][/doublepost]I think Apple will reinforce the next model.

For now, the 2018 iPad Pros are still overall great machines, but don’t transport them with any smaller objects next to them.

Dynamic forces inside of a bag can reach surprisingly high levels with the mechanical advantage of having a smaller object act as fulcrum to the larger iPad.

Didn’t apple do this with the iPhone 6 bend issue? They wouldn’t outright admit it had structural issues, but with the next version they made it out of a new kind of aluminum

Wow, you've got some serious drawing skills. Well done.

They also added steel reinforcements screwed in around the button cutouts (that's my recollection at least).

Edit: They at least nearly doubled the thickness around the buttons, but this video is the bare shell so the extra reinforcements wouldn't show here:

I really want to know if anyone really has had issues with the iPad bending? Like, what are you doing with your iPad that is causing it to bend? Serious question. I just want to make sure that I dont do that.

[doublepost=1542614347][/doublepost]I bought my first iPad Pro and within 30 days had white spots. I went back to Best Buy and they reluctantly gave me a new one and said this was a one time exchange , like a favor. The new iPad Pro is doing the same thing an hour out of the box.
