I contacted Apple after noticing one side of my iPad sticking out from my otter box case, I talked to customer service via the phone for maybe 20 minutes letting them know I never dropped it or damaged it in anyway, that I’ve used all my Apple devices I’ve ever owned with care and still have them going back to my first Apple product which was the iPod nano.
They contacted me a day later requesting I send them pictures. I sent them an email with these pictures and 20 minutes later they called me back informing me that they would replace my new iPad. I’ve sent in my iPad and currently awaiting my new iPad (2-3 weeks as they didn’t have them in stock)

Your iPad was so badly bent I don't understand how you wouldn't notice this as soon as you pulled it out of the box?

It actually did not come out of the box like that. I read all the threads about the bending issue at launch and was glad mine wasn’t bent out of the box. However I noticed it perhaps 2 weeks ago. I have no idea how it even happened

What that implies is, when it came out of the box it was ok, only after 2 weeks of use this happened, You Lucky Apple agreed to replace it for you !!

Well, I was one of the people who said that I had been planning to upgrade when they announced the new iPad's but then have stated that I planned to wait until the next version primarily because of the bending issue. As of this week my wife and I are new owners of two new iPad's, 12.9", WiFi only. A co-worker and several friends had purchased new ones and everyone that I know that has purchased one had no issues with bending. I am not implying that it is not an issue but after seeing that no one I know has experienced an issue I decided to join the club.

Both of mine and my wife's are perfectly flat. No issues as of now. And it is an awesome device. I'll update this post if we experience any issues but as of right now I am not regretting our purchases.

Mine is not bent either. I’ve checked it with a digital angle finder. I think people are bending them on accident themselves.

The photo above in question is a straight up, bent ass iPad. And apple would never box that up and retail that. It will not even go in the box properly like that.

Easy, Someone sat on it. I keep my 11” off of furniture, and out of harms way. I do not use cases, or screen protectors. I can say this, they will not bend by themselves. It takes force to bend it where it’s at.

I’m an adult who lives alone. I use my iPad with extreme care as well as all my other electronics. At most I’ve put my iPad in my backpack with its case on and a book or two. If it gets bent that easy then the issue is with the iPad not me.

I do not understand people’s blind loyalty to a company. I’ve owned many apple products and never have any bent from normal usage. It is clear this is an isssue with this new iPad and Apple clearly knows it is an issue otherwise they would not have exchanged it immediately.

Well, I have an iPad 12.9 since 3 weeks ago, and I checked for any bend issue out of the box using a calibration machine for aluminum profiles we have here, and it was perfectly straight. Today I re-checked it again, and guess what? is starting to bending, just half millimeter, but bending. I use the table mostly for drawing in landscape mode, so surely the pencil and hand it's helping to bend it, but I definly see a problem with Apple manufacturing here.

I wonder if the 12.9 is more prone to bending than the 11” model.

Logic says yes, more surface, in practice depends of the aluminum kind and quality, Could be different depending the vendor.

Anyway I will check about the bending in a few weeks more, could be that the iPad Aluminum case has a small standard deviation allowed after some use, and it will stop bending any futher.

The thing that’s surprised me is that if an iPad is visibly badly bent, how is that not picked up by the machines during the packing process? Presumably the assembly line machines would “error” as they’re going to be detecting something awry - I.e. this item doesn’t fit in the box, there’s pushback from whatever is in the box, it gets rejected etc?

Has Apple has assigned some of their employees to work the forums? Some of the posters sure make it sound like that.
[doublepost=1549809804][/doublepost]Samsung uses glass in their new tablets. It stays dead flat, but glass is too fragile, but it's OK in a case. Apple advertises aluminum as premium, but aluminum is actually one of the cheapest things to make a frame out of. Beer and soda cans are made out of aluminum. If they're going to use aluminum obviously they need to use a better stronger grade of aluminum. Good quality plastic would be OK too.

I was about to buy the 11", but I think I will wait until the next release. Speaking as an engineer, this design is simply appalling. ManyYouTube videos show just how easy it is to bend these devices. I am honestly shocked.

After I read about all the bending issues I decided to keep my 12.9 „locked up“ in an Otterbox 360 case all the time. Do you think this will save it from bending during travel and work?

No. Make sure you don’t place it in a bag where anything else might apply any pressure on it.
