I would as well. I would also take that a step further and say that I would gladly have 2mm added to the thickness of an iPad to allow for a much higher capacity battery.

Absolutely. The necessary case makes the tablet much thicker anyway, and adds nothing useful like a bigger battery. Make tablets (and phones) out of a strong grippy plastic or carbon fiber instead of slippery beer can grade aluminum and slippery brittle glass of all things!

Poster above: Wouldn't one single huge photo have sufficed to show that your tablet is flat (so far)? And nobody said that they are ALL bent or they all break every time they are dropped.

You are the sole drama master and supporter of bendgate 2.0

You’ve mentioned that they will break if not hand carried, or put in a glass box. I could keep going on.

iPads have 4 sides, so if there’s 3 iPads, that is a lot of straight edges to post.

Only trying to post something positive on here.

“Hey my kids used my last 11” they dropped it, scratched it, but didn’t bend it”

I’m being realistic.

The glass is Corning Gorilla glass 6, this was a new glass especially formulated for apple devices without a home button. Stronger than all other iPad displays. Trust me, the 11” is plenty tough. I’ve owned 3 of them, they were all straight. My last 11” took some pretty hard drops on to hardwood flooring without cracking, or bending.
If you don’t mind me asking why have you owned 3? Lol

I did end up grabbing an 11”. Now I have 12 more days to decide if the 11” is for me or if I need the 12.9” again.

I’m posting pictures of several straight iPads in a thread related to them being bent. Excuse me, I’m so sorry? Are you serious? iPads do have 4 sides.

Touch related issues without using a screen protector.

Yea I’ve already spent 50$ (Apple care replacement cost) twice to replace two iPad pros that bent on their own. It’s a quality control issue apple wont admit to because of the bad press I guess. I love my iPhone but am kicking myself for not getting a pc for the same or less. I’d consider a apple laptop if not for those keyboards... but it’s a good point that these machines are very costly and so shouldn’t bend at least not on their own... I am fairly certain it is a heat related combination of the new fast chips and new design, as I was rendering video on the second one for many hours at a time and a few days later noticed how bent it became. but possibly it had bent once it was finished rendering and cooled off. But like if you put it on a table it didn’t sit flat visibly and images were visibly wobbled. Wish I had gotten the smaller tablet as maybe would be less of an issue but who knows. Really makes me appreciate how flat my iPhone is though... I’d recommend keeping in a case 24/7 for iPad users as this seems to be helping even though it’s just the ‘flimsy’ apple case and yes my new iPad Pro is bent but only slightly for this third one. It’s the kind of thing you notice more switching from it to a flat device like a phone... smh lol. And btw the slight bend is inward on this 3rd one (I’m keeping) but the major bend on the second was outward and the bend on the first was inward. It’s not very likely but may well be just a production error. The design needed to leak heat well and ended up being flimsy or some practical error which may be fixed invisibly in future production runs. Who knows.

Most def could be related to temperature. Major bend after render video for many hours and had taken it out of its case...

You could be on to something there, I wondered why my Sony 55" AF8 OLED TV which is thinner in places than my iPad Pro, when left on for a few hours while watching HDR material turned into a tube, thus doubling as a frame for a telescope which is great if you use it at night, now were did they put the eye piece and mirror as its obviously a reflector not a refractor. Shame my 12.9" Cellar iPad does not do that.

Unrelated to the new iPad Pro 2018 bendgate, it seems mine developed bending near the smart connector port and a lesser pronounced bend on the opposite side. I'm very careful with my iPad and did not think I caused the bent myself. I only notice the issued after removing it from my rubber case to clear it. This iPad was only 8 months old since it was a replacement for my first one that suffered from screen LCD blotches (they replace it for free no questions asked). However, Apple refused to replace it for free time (paying the $50.00 no big deal). Maybe I am asking too much...

Is it impossible to prove that it was a manufacturing defect or my own doing? Anyone suffer the same issues with the 10.5?

Cheers.

iPads bend. There’s nothing you can do about it. There was some pressure on your iPad at some point. Maybe you were not aware that it happen at all.

Cases are pretty flimsy too, so a case on an iPad could most likely give a false feeling that it is more rigid than it already is not.
[doublepost=1555363118][/doublepost]
How many people would gladly see the manufacturers add a few ounces and make these things more rugged? I sure would. Especially since you immediately need to add extra ounces of protection anyway, cases and screen protectors, since they are either making them out of frail aluminum or glass. Make devices designed to be portable more rugged and slip proof so you don't even need a case, and with factory supplied screen protectors, since gorilla glass is mostly hype (see the Verge test), so you don't need to mess with screen protectors and their air bubbles!

Honestly on a more serious note, I understand where your coming from with the frustration about these iPads, I’d like to see apple use steel for these things. A stamped piece of steel for the body, and with a paint or coating to prevent rust. Or simply adding in steel plates, or beams in weak areas. They could maintain this thin design, or go even thinner!

We’re not banging our iPads around, and while mine haven’t been bent. Plenty of other people have bent there’s.

They are thin, the thinnest of any tablet or phone ever I think?

Apple can only learn from it. But, I’d easily take a heavy all steel body and be happy with the added weight.

Yeah just a disappointment that's all. Apple praises themselves in every machining video of their products, so consumers "think" they are getting the most solid product. Life might just be better reverting to the old tanky iPads.

I’m not understanding how people might think an iPad could spontaneously bend itself. The iPad is weaker on the side with the Smart Connector because there’s openings in the frame, and therefore more susceptible to bending from stress. Maybe a weak design, but it’s not a manufacturing defect.

People just need to take more care in how they handle the device. I personally feel the obsession with thinness has made inroads into the strength of the design, however I also see a great deal of variation in what people constitute as acceptable care for their iPads. Remember the iPhone bending issue from several years ago? Oh, we all do. Many people considered it perfectly fine to keep an iPhone 6 Plus in the back pocket of tight jeans, then wondered how their phone bent.

Depends on what the benefits were. My 2018 12.9" iPad Pro is still perfect even after months of carrying it in various bags, the battery life is great and it's really fast - but it still is a bit too heavy to hold comfortably for long periods of time (better than before and I am not complaining, but I wouldn't want it bigger or heavier). So in this case - adding weight would provide small gains but lots of negatives. I'd say it's a perfect mix of power, design and portability.

Had my 11” since November and never checked for a bend, looked today and sure enough it has a significant bend, it’s never left the house and always had the apple case on it. I assume it’s been bent since I unboxed it.

Uh ? How did this happen on its own ? Surely there must be something going on in the background which either you have not noticed or you are not reporting it here !!

Is it LTE?
Long side or short side?
If short side is it more than the 400 microns Apple have said is within manufacture tolerance on the short sides of the LTE?

IMO homes are just as or more risky for bend because this is where they are most likely to be sat on....chucked on bed or sofa, covered with article of clothing or cushion ....

iPad lives on my work desk and has since I bought it, I use it to watch Netflix while working, I work from home. Took it out of the case and lied it face down on my dining table and took a pic for you..

EDIT: it’s the base model WiFi only, I don’t really care about the bend because like I said, it lives on my work desk stood up for watching Netflix.

Thanks for that. Can't explain that, but personally I have a hard time believing that iPads bend on their own for some reason other than mechanical overload, eg thermally induced stresses. Pity you didn't get a photo like that out of the box.

Like I said, mine sits on my work desk and never goes anywhere, I don't think it's bent over time I think it probably came like that but I never cared enough to check. The case went on and I've used it every day since.

That’s a pressure bend from force.
[doublepost=1555625214][/doublepost]This thread always makes me paranoid. These are updated pictures, I just checked my iPad 11” unlocked cellular model again. It is still perfectly straight, very nice to know considering how much usage it sees everyday..

“48” days old. A bend will not just magically appear. Although the internet has nearly made me believe this lol. My iPad is used for around 6-8 hours everyday.

Yeah a pressure bend from force at the factory it was made. Like I said I don't care because it doesn't effect my use watching netflix at my desk but to say it's not bent straight out of the box because yours isn't is ignorant, it's obviously an ongoing issue due to the amount of people reporting it.

Don't know what you mean 'never bent' but on the pictures I can clearly see a small bent. You've only had it for 2 months and you may be lucky that it didn't break. Dropping iPad usually means bye bye screen. Unless its the carpet like yours which usually is ok but you can still get unlucky.
Anyway, I disagree with your approach but its not why we are here. I can see bent on yours :)
Regardless, I want to get the iPad too but I think I'll wait for the next revision with hopefully stronger Aluminium. Probably Fall I guess :)

All phones and devices scratch. This is the reasoning for screen protectors. And there’s no hype about gorilla glass, it’s just glass it’ll still break and scratch just like anything else will. A iPad will withstand all day drops over and over again without breaking or bending. They are plenty rugged. Any electronic with a glass screen can shatter in a second with one perfect drop on something hard enough.

My last iPad Pro 11” had no case, and no screen protector. I even let my kids use it. They dropped it over and over again on the hardwood flooring from about 3-4ft several times.

We as consumers choose to put cases on our electronics to keep them from scuffing, and scratching because we like them to always look nice without scratches. But realistically you could run a iPad like I did for about 2 months without it. I sold it used on eBay, and upgraded to a larger storage model. And it was in great condition still.

See the massive scratch my kids put on it? And the ding too? No case, no screen protector for almost 2 months. It was beat up pretty good. Never bent, and never broken.

After I upgraded I bought a silver 1TB cellular model. Silver does much better with scuffing, because the scuffs are silver lol. But, this time I installed a generic cheap amazon brand folio case, and a screen protector. And this one isn’t used by my children lol. I’d prefer to keep it nice. And it doesn’t have a scuff on it anywhere. All I saying is, these iPads are plenty tough. You can drop them, bang them, hit them whatever the day happens to bring. It isn’t all that fragile.
