No credible source to support that it’s anything less, either. Just to be clear.

Well, to be clear, that is not how it works, you do this a lot in your posts, someone says something and you reply with a senseless "oh but". The only point is that his claimed 95% was supported by nothing but an opinion, perhaps a desire for it to be true, so the reality is there is no evidence to support any %.

Not sure whether you are the epitome of an Apple Fanboy or just any angry individual who can't stand reasoned discussion, you also seem to appear at certain points to address comments by specific members. Either way, you really need to get out more.

I am sorry if you feel that way. I do have this style of arguing but I am certainly not angry and I enjoy discussions - though I often don’t find the opposing arguments as “reasoned”. I’m sure it goes both ways and I enjoy talking about it. I am not targeting specific members intentionally, I would guess that a certain style of writing makes me want to respond more than others.

And yes, I am an Apple fanboy. There is no denying that, however, one problem I have with dividing members into “fanboys” and “others” is the dominant belief that one are biased and the others are not. This is far from the truth as the “other” side is often just as biased and emotional. But there is no word for a “non-fanboy”. If I see someone who is, in my opinion, clearly emotionally invested to present Apple in a negative light (for various reasons), I can’t say something like: “you’re a non-fanboy”, while you can interpret every defense I make as “fanboyism”.

The thing here is that both sides are making general claims, and yet you only see the “95% users are happy” one. But claims of Apple QA, reliability, pro focus, etc - are equally just oppinions (valid or not) without scientific proof (the offered proof is almost always purely anecdotal), and yet, these are usually accepted as “truthful and critical viewpoints” and not emotional responses to a disliked design decision, failed screen or price increase.

So, yes, I am a fanboy, but with good reason: apart from an unreliable MBP keyboard, Apple makes products that I really like.

As for “getting out” part, this is an attack on me personally. I am not offended, but honestly, you can’t possibly know whether I’m outgoing or not. Personally, I think I lead a rich life, filled with people and meaningful social activity :) I just really enjoy posting on forums for fun.

so is this an actual big deal? should i not get the 2018 pro?

Nobody really knows, I have yet to come across anyone in my own life that has had a bent device. I wouldn't let it hold you back if you want one. If anything the design is structurally far weaker than any previous iPad. The only real issue I see is that you can't 'throw it about' like you could previous or in fact current non-pro models.

Get a good cover to protect it and ensure you don't shove it a bag where it is put under pressure from bending by other objects and it should be fine. A cautious approach.

I guess you have to ask yourself: How are you going to use the iPad Pro? If you are going to bring around wherever you go, chucking the iPad in various bags, using it on the go, then be prepared to buy additional accessories like a sturdy case to protect your iPad. If the iPad is just going to sit mostly on the desk, then you may not need the extra protection. I use the Smart Keyboard as mine is always on the desk, occasional using it while on the couch and for me, it is more than adequate protection for my iPad Pro.

You’ll be fine. I’ve owned and handled quite a few of these iPads mostly the 11” version. And I’ve never had a bent one. I’ve never seen a bent one either. I think they are as durable as a tablet should be.

They are pretty tough at only 5.84mm thick.

If your harder on a tablet or carrying it around, then naturally the 11” iPad will be stronger than the 12.9” model. So, I’d start there.

I can't remember if it is the LTE versions that are more prone to bending???

I have a 2018 12.9 - LOVE it no bends at all. But I AM looking at getting a smaller LTE version. I have been comparing the 10.5 512gb & 11 256 gb pros. I can get the 10.5 for half the price of the 11.

So I am wanting to make sure how the LTE versions have been....

I simply vote NO with my wallet. I won’t reward a faulty and half baked product like this with my money. I don’t buy crap, not from Apple, nor from anyone else.

Do your work properly, release a product with a well thought structure, not a cheap bag of low grade aluminum, and we’ll see.

Low res €900 LCD iPhones. Crappy bendable €1000 iPads. Shame.

I do not think the bending problem is real. Honestly I think the real issue is that any tablet can bend. I’m 3 months in on my 11” iPad Pro. It is super straight. I do not even bother to check it anymore.

Since when does a low resolution make something crappy? And the last time I checked, any iPad can bend for this matter. I can snap any electronic device in my house in half with my bare hands.

Name any electronic device in your next post that is superior, and I’ll come back with some research about how crappy it is “even though you love it” And, even though it may appear to be a good product.

Also, go ask 10 random people who do not socialize on this forum how there 2018 iPad Pro experience has been, any bending? You will probably find that they are all straight.

If you research a product before you buy it, your research is not very good.

It is funny because nearly all of the reply’s in this thread are from people who do not own a iPad Pro. And have absolutely no idea what they are even talking about lol. And all of there information is based purely on speculation.

And anything about low grade aluminum is not even remotely close to the actual problems. So, you continue to post in here about a bending problem that me and most of the users would probably gladly trade for to resolve something else.

A) Since we’re not in 2010.
B) Try to bend an iPhone X, Xs, Xr with your bare hands.

I don’t care about what 10 ignorant users think. Not about low res screens nor low quality materials. That’s reasoning ad populum. What difference does it make if I have or don’t an iPad Pro? That’s ad hominem. Try to focus on the subject.

Yes, it’s a shame that Apple sells low resolution phones for flagship money. Is it legal? Of course. Do they work? Of course? Are those screens ridiculous? Of course. Why? Because they use cheap parts on a very expensive device. What’s the reason? Marketing over function and extreme cost cutting.

And what can be said about the iPad? Not a single internal structural reinforcement and weak materials. The back can ripple when falling from 50cm and it bends in a backpack, which are perfectly reasonable scenarios. Is it legal? Of course. Do they work? Of course? Is that structure/material ridiculous? Of course. Why? Because they use cheap parts/manufacturing process in a very expensive device and it can be damaged during a reasonable day to day usage. What’s the reason? Marketing over function and extreme cost cutting.

So I vote NO with my wallet to marketing over function and extreme cost cutting on premium devices.

Hey, Can I see the iPad Pro 2018 models that you have experienced a problem with first hand?

I’m very curious to see the problem you are having with them.

Oh I can see why you’re skeptical. It’s not like this is a 47 pages thread dedicated to that precise subject or something, you know.

5 months with a 12.9, 1TB version, in Smart Keyboard. Taken with me everywhere I go in a soft-sided leather briefcase. Perfectly flat. Performs perfectly. If you wanted one and haven't bought one because of the "bending" issue, you're the one missing out. It's an awesome device.

It is 47 pages of people arguing against users who do not even own one, we are crying out that our iPads are not even bent.

Even Fozziebear71 claim and others is usually looked past as speculation of bs is spread as non owners of the device are administering CPR on bendgate 2.0 to keep it alive.

The thing is sir that the fact of owning or not the device does not make the device better or worse. Even if you haven’t bent yours, that doesn’t mean it’s well designed. It’s way too weak, that has been tested (unless you want to believe that those results come from some kind of evil anti iPad Pro 11 1st gen conspiracy).

Spare me the fallacious arguments.

You are the one losing out here. You and all the other people who scare themselves into not buying good products because of the distorted view of problems portrayed by MacRumors forums. I am not saying the problems aren’t real only that MacRumors forums do not have the big picture, and lack any perspective.

I have been a member of MR for 13 years. In that time I have bought about a dozen macs mostly laptops (including four with butterfly keyboards), all the iPhone models, a few iPads. Many of them have had xx page threads about their terrible problems, and yet by some miracle I seem to have always got a good one. Of course it is not really a miracle, just a reflection of the fact that the world according to MR is not representative of the real world. And of course I have had a few problems which Apple have taken care of to my satisfaction.

  1. I watched an online video of a person drop a 2018 iPad Pro from about knee-high onto concrete. The metal back rippled. Yeah, I'm not planning to drop mine, but the fact that the metal rippled is enough to put me off.
  2. I watched an online video of a person using the new Apple Pencil to color on their device. With moderate pressure (the pencil is pressure sensitive, after all) the glass bent enough that the LCD panel distorted under the pressure.
  3. I watched an online video where Apple announced the pricing of these devices and it was 20% higher than the previous generation.
  4. I watched an online video showing some of the new features coming in an operating system update and the devices still lack an ability to run background tasks, amongst other missing features that computers have had for decades.
  5. I read an online forum thread where users are having touch screen issues with these devices (something I am personally experiencing with my 2017 iPad Pro).
I'm not missing out. I'm not scared. I took some time to research how I would use the device, what the device offers and at what price. I made an educated decision to not purchase because I do not believe that for my use case the cost of the device justifies the quality and utility.

Out of curiosity, for those defending the design and strength, like Apple has been; what would you say if Apple is to introduce the next model and boasts a stronger frame? Highlighting that as a feature? Would you still turn a blind eye to there being an issue?

Like they did with the iPhone 7 after the iPhone 6 bend issue....I would say good! I am not claiming that everything is perfect and can't be improved....only that the problems are not as common or as bad as anyone would think reading these forums.

What choice would they have?
Look there is no such thing as opinions. That is just a lie people tell themselves so as not to feel bad about being wrong.
There are people who are right, and people who think they're right.

iPad Pro has structural integrity issues. If you get one that isn't bent, and manage to keep it that way, it doesn't change the fact that the device has these issues. The same with the MacBook keyboard. Inherent design flaw, that can potentially affect 100% of devices. My 2016 MacBook Pro did not have a single keyboard issue until it started last week. Because mine worked fine for 3 years, didn't mean that I pretend the keyboard is fine.
