YEP IT STILL BENDS...STICKING WITH THE IPAD AIR 3 FOR NOW! Shame apple...i was going to get one...but nope the one thing i wanted you to fix, and you couldent be bothered to fix...your loss my savings! Shame on you! Im sure Steve Jobs would be just as annoyed as i am!

Can you link to a report that it bends with regular use? Forced bending that is shown on YouTube was never really the issue and is totally expected with a device this thin.

It’s the cases that were reported with the least generation where it bend while people carried it in bags etc that were an issue.

Well idk man but i kinda think we can draw our own conclusions about if the build quality is the exact same for this gen vs last gen thennnnn....you know? Only real difference is the camera area and i dont think that would stop it from bending.

If it happened last gen, it can happen this one too. But most of us never experienced this issue so we’re like meh and move on.

Overall the amount of new reports of this happening has come down a bit too. At least my perception.

I’m wondering what happens if you write or draw a lot with the pencil- if you have no back case on, do these devices wiggle? Will I cause bending when writing on it? That would be the most pressure it would have to withstand in my use case.

It wiggles abit on either top-right or btm-left corner when in landscape posiition
Imagine a four-legged desk with one leg is longer than others. It wiggles.

Use a smart folio case ( or knock off one ) or any case really to make it flat on table.
Protect from bending or not it makes a much better experience when drawing.

Thought so but thanks for confirming. That’s a nice thing about the first generation I have, it lays absolutely flat on the table with no need to attach anything and add thickness.

I’m tempted to order a previous gen 11” from Apple’s refurbished store. I think it’s really good value for the price. The only thing that’s putting me off is the bending issue.

I guess what I’m asking is just if this really is a widespread issue or not?

So for my peace of mind I thought I’d do a poll before purchasing, so, has anyone had any issues with their 11” or 12.9” bending?

My 12.9 ordered in Nov 2018 hasn’t. But then again I’m pretty careful with it, don’t sit on it. Don‘t use it as a pillow. And my backpack is pretty sturdy to keep it protected because I take it to work most days. I would recommend getting the 2018 or 2020 models. Just keep it in a good travel backpack when taking it outside. I think with any device that big, light, and thin, it will be ”weaker” than a product that’s heavy, thicker as well as big.

I’m sure there are some genuine bends out there for whatever reason, but when you watch “bend gate” videos, ask yourself, have you ever subjected your own iPad to whatever these guys are doing?

I haven't.

If you take care of it, like most of us would with a several hundred pound / dollar piece of computer equipment, then you should be fine.

If you’re gonna take it out and about, then put it in a suitable case / sleeve, especially if you’re gonna dump it in a rucksack / holdall.

I’ve never used a case / screen cover with any of my iPads. My kids do, but they’re kids and don’t take as much care as me.

I do use a case for my iPhone though.

Heres the thing...Regardless of if you personally had an issue with it bending or not, it still does not change the fact that their is a well known DESIGN FLAW with the current designs of the pros. Just because you yourself never experenced it DOES NOT MEAN ITS NOT HAPPENING OR CANT HAPPEN!

Fine..so be it...these things happen....Thats not what bothers me...what truly bothers me is apple had to be well aware of the problem, being how it was widely reported this could be an issue and yet THEY STILL DID NOTHING TO CHANGE IT ON THE NEW MODEL!

In fact, all the reviews ive seen on the New Ipad that arent bending over backwards to praise saint apple...all imply the same thing...ITS A LAZY UPGRADE!

I was never fully expecting another brand new design but the two key upgrades seem to be the slightly impoved processor and the camera system which from what i gather isnt as good as the iphones and the LIDAR stuff is premature.

Fine..i can live with that, thats not a huge deal. people with the old pros have less of a reason to upgrade, and for new users this is a fair option..

PROBLEM THOUGH

THEY DIDENT BOTHER TO FIX THE DESIGN FLAW AND MAKE NO MISTAKE IT IS A DESIGN FLAW...

Any tablet will bend if you put it under enough force. Laws of Physics people I get that. My whole issue is why not put reinforcements to help prevent that as this is a mobile product...

the fact that they couldent be bothered to do it dispite having to have known about it, is just poor quality control and you cant say its not because they did fix the bending iphone issues a few years back with a stronger aluminum!

so thats why i'm angry and refuse to buy one as i was fully planning on doing so, but i guess im stuck with my Ipad Air 3 for now, which is just fine my be. I'll take less features for durability and reliability any day of the week!

Good news is that it's a discretionary purchase and people can take their money elsewhere if they feel the product is inferior.

I totally agree and i plan on doing that at the moment. Apple let me down here. I wanted to buy this. I truly did! It just disapoints me that they lack the quality control they used to have!

You basically nailed it. I watched one YouTube video where they took the iPad apart and found that the chassis was machined exactly as the previous generation. I like iPads, but won't buy one of these because 1) they cost too much for what they do; and, 2) the build quality is not as good as I want. If they meet the needs of others, that's great, but I won't be picking one up.

So the structural integrity was only so the screen keeps working when bent almost completely in half? That's what I got from the video.

same here. Wanted to get one but not buying until they use stronger aluminium or better internal structure. It’s that simple. The force needed to bend this is just too low for my tasting. Go and see IPhone 6 vs iPhone 7 bend tests. Clear difference and that is what I’m after. Improvement so I don’t have to worry about it. its not a $300 device but it’s almost 2000CAD with taxes etc. For that price this is simply crappy upgrade and frankly insulting from Apple.
so no money from me until they show care.

THEY DON’T CONSIDER IT A DESIGN FLAW AND MAKE NO MISTAKE THIS IS YOUR PERSONAL OPINION...

I returned my 2018 pro. For the price it felt too cheap and fragile. Next version should fix this.

Next version of 2018 iPad Pro is out and by all accounts it is the same structurally.

We actually don't know what they consider it. They could consider it a design flaw, but one that is not worth fixing. They could consider it not a design flaw. The point is, we don't know.

Regardless, it's a design that is simply not as strong as previous designs. It's really that simple. If it works for others, that's great. For some of us, we want a device that is physically stronger. Period.

I actually agree with everything you said. We don't really know what Apple thinks, or if there is an objective design flaw (it is really relative). And yes, the design probably isn't as strong as previous ones (not sure though, iPad Air was also quite bendy, only no one talked about it much). Finally - if you want a different design, you want it - it's your money, buy or don't buy whatever you want, no argument there.

With that said - I think it's good for people to offer their opinions so people can read them and make their judgements. Still, I wish more people talked from their personal experience with the device instead of putting too much value on some YT videos. There are also people riding this bend train with comments about iPads that have nothing to do with build quality (basically, they don't like them for the price, so, let's just go with the 'it bends too easily' because it's human nature). Of course, there are people who are genuinely interested in getting one, but the physical attributes don't fit their lifestyle or whatever - that is perfectly fine.

Define careful. :)

Under normal circumstances? With practically every single generation iPad ever released? Pretty much according to Apple’s instructions on correct use:

The last iPad Pro 11” I had? Just sitting at a desk in a locked office.

But I am sorry you're having issues.

Thanks, but I “downgraded” to an iPad Air 3, so I no longer have any issues.

Same as i did. Shame as i love the features on the Ipad Pro, but alas, apple gives me no choice but to avoid the Pros until they wise up and strengthen them so i have confidence if i take it out into the real world (even in a high end case) it wont warp or bend or break from reasonable daily use!
