I travel with my 11" fairly regularly (less so due to COVID19) and would say i'm pretty rough with it - I fling it in to my backpack along with other things such as clothes and other non uniform items.
I only have the Smart Folio on it and it's still in perfect condition, not bent at all...

Not mine, but my brother’s 12.9” iPad Pro bent, he has only had it for a few months and barely used it. He claims he doesn’t know how it happened but I think he left it on the floor and stood on it when getting out of bed, don’t really blame the iPad for that one Lol. He has insurance through his carrier so its not the end of the world lol.

Compared to the amount of participants in this thread?

That only shows how a manufacturer can ruin the reputation of a high end product with its own enthusiast crowds by focusing only on thinness.
No other iPad had a similar response from potential customers being turned off by this. And there have been bent abuse videos from the usual wannabes on YouTube for pretty much any iPad.

For the “just buy something else” crowd... buy what? What other tablet runs iOS and it’s apps? This advice doesn’t work in the Apple world. It’s their hardware or nothing.

There are three other iPad models currently in production plus the chance to purchase an older version of the iPad Pro.
Differences in hardware are well documented at this stage but at the end of the day these could get most jobs done too.

I switched to a Surface device and, frankly, I like it better. I'll admit it is not for everyone. However, I found that the vast majority of the time I'm on a tablet I'm just using a web browser and the Surface works great for that. Then when I want to do work I add a keyboard and have a desktop operating system. It's really quite nice, but, again, I'll admit that it's not for everyone.

For me, the fact that this generation of iPad is thinner and thus more easily bent does not work for me at the price point it's at. That, combined with the unresponsive touch screen issues I had with my 2nd gen. 12.9" iPad have really left me disliking the iPad Pros.

I still like iOS/iPadOS and I do hope to start using them again at some point, but for now I've moved away and I have no complaints.

As for whether there is a true tablet-only (or tablet-primary) alternative to iPads, I think we all know the answer is that there is not.

had a battery issue with the new iPad Pro 2020 11 inch.
Apple support said send it in for replacement. Great. Had iPad shipped to them was alarmed to get an email saying they had found a hardware problem to pay or get broke iPad back.

Now I’m concerned so called straightaway.
Apparently my 2 week well looked after iPad was bent.
They sent me photos and honestly I would never have noticed having unboxed and placed it straight in a case.

In the 3 hour phone call they agreed to waive all fees which is a huge relief but CHECK THOSE SHINY NEW IPADS AS SOON AS YOU OPEN!!

I'd love to upgrade my aging Air 2 but this issue is preventing me from doing so.
I'm not totally concerned about a short term thing as for that you have warranty but I want the new iPad to last as long as the Air 2 that I still have and use on daily basis and it works awesome.
So until this is solved Apple is not getting my money regardless of how common or not common the issue is

And, really, it’ll never be solved. Which is fine, iPad is outselling everything except the iPhone, so there’s enough people to carry it.

I've upgraded twice since my Air 2, nary a problem. If I buy another and have an issue, I'll return it for a new device.
Me, too. I’ve got two unbent iPad Pro’s right here. Both could be bent if I applied enough pressure, but I’m just not going to do that :)

Apple made these iPad Pro’s to thin. They should of made them thicker, fit more battery inside which also would of resulted in longer battery life.

I of to agree.

A thicker device would also eliminate the ugly camera bump and one could rest if flat on a table for drawing and note taking without having to buy a case to get the unit flat again.

It will be solved.
I have Air 2 and its fine (except the white spot which is annoying).
But when Air 2 was out the price was way lower for a flagship product. So now, when I want to get the pro that costs almost $2k(cad) I wanna be sure that there are no longevity issues at the time of purchase and at this point there is. The structure is weaker than Air 2 (no doubt about that as that has been demonstrated many times) so that itself is a big warning sign for me. Maybe its all good for you but the new design has been out only for a year or so. Not enough time to see long term effect. Also, because the last update was such a bad one then it makes sense to wait for the next proper revision (fall or later).
either way, this is just to expensive to have "faith" in. (for me)

The problem is that anyone demonstrating it aren’t doing so scientifically. From all the bend videos, there’s not one that indicates the precise amount of pressure required to permanently deform an iPad Pro... of either size.

Apple’s never going to make an iPad that doesn’t bend. You’ll never be able to see an iPad Pro released and NOT have bend videos immediately following it. Because of this, the ONLY way for you to tell if any future iPad will bend under your use, will be to use it. Which is the same situation as today.

True,

but its not the fact that it bends. Everything will bend if you have enough pressure/force. Its the amount and although we don't have precise measurements (thats true) we have indicators and from those you can see that its much EASIER to bend iPad Pro current gen compared to the one that was in the old form.
So, that is worrying and seeing that Apple didn't bother to use stronger aluminium (like they did with 6S onwards) then it is simply something that I'm worried about and the price tag makes it worse.
All Apple needs to do is simply use stronger aluminium and then its instant buy for me.
It really is that simple
