How did you prevent the mouse from going to sleep? I can connect my Magic Mouse 2 and it works OK until I pause for a minute or longer. Then it requires a tap on the mouse to get it working again. Unfortunately, even though the pointer is not visible, the click registers with unpredictable results. This is very annoying.
Are you referring to the iPad going to sleep? If so I find just moving the mouse wakes mine up.

In the Pointer Style option it allows you to adjust the time before the mouse/pointer disappears.

I went to the local Apple store yesterday to enquire which mice work with the iPad since both of my Apple mice work poorly - they work until I pause for a minute or more than they require a click to come back (with many unintended consequences since the click registers). I was surprisingly met with a bit of hostility by the "tech expert" at the store - how dare I use a feature intended purely for accessibility as a replacement for the touch interface?

I am convinced that the rather poor mouse support (no acceleration, no decent pointer, etc.) will not be improved since Apple really doesn't believe in the feature.

unsurprisingly. the day apple releases official support they will celebrate the iPad as a revolutionary device that integrates mouse and touch. they used to be the same with the stylus ;)

I love the idea of the mouse but I will not use one. Apparently, Apple only wants you to use it if have disability, which i don't have, thank goodness. So i feel lucky that I don't need a mouse, which i really want to use.

Maybe in the future, Apple will designate this useful utility as ok for everyone, and not just for a relatively small subset, because I really, really, want to use one.

Thank you.

I have been unsuccessful with pairing my iPad Pro 1st gen with a first gen Apple Trackpad and a second gen one, and I also tried a MS Surface Mouse. None of these devices ever show up under Bluetooth. I have read many conflicting ways to setup mice/trackpads and I was finally able to add my first gen trackpad under switches and it finally paired, though nothing happens when I use the trackpad. What step am I missing?

Thanks.

For Apple stuff, it seems to be necessary to pair the device using the Accessibility/Switch control page in Settings. Tap in the Switches entry and choose Bluetooth devices. The Apple trackpad or mouse will then likely pair.

I have another successful mouse: the Logitech M720 (~$35 at Amazon). Unlike both of my Apple mice, this one does not go to sleep after a few minutes - it is always on. The cursor can disappear but moving the mouse always brings the cursor up and the mouse back to life (with the Apple items, I needed to click the mouse which still registered, with unintended consequences). By the way, this mouse pairs easily in the Bluetooth page in Settings, which is where they all should pair.

Thanks to all who responded to my request for a working mouse (it would be nice if Apple published a list...)

I got it to work, I needed to enable Assistive touch. So I have both Assistive Touch turned on and it shows as being connected as a bluetooth device there and I also have it connected under Switches as a bluetooth device. I do not know which one is making it work, I tried so many different ways and it is finally working....

Is there a way to hide the assistive touch circle button that appears on a home screen when it is enabled?

Thanks!

No, I already tried on this one. You can add toggling of Assistive Touch as a shortcut in Control Center, saving burrowing down through the menus.

In the AssistiveTouch page, I think turning off "Always Show Menu" should do it (I also turn off "Show Onscreen Keyboard").

So which mouse has the best scrolling experience? Many I have seen on YouTube look very jerky and a bit how it’s on Windows, not smooth but like 3 lines at a time. I saw the Microsoft Arc Mouse actually looked pretty smooth on the iPad Pro:

Are there others that are similar or even better?

That does look nice. I like the low profile when off. Be interesting to hear feedback from owners/users here.

What mouse is everyone using? I’m trying to find a low profile portable mouse. The thinness of the Magic Mouse 2 or arc mouse from Microsoft are perfect. But they lack a third button to make them useful on iPad.

i have the everywhere 2S from Logitech but that’s kinda big...

i too would like to know if the Microsoft Arc Mouse would work with an iPad Pro? I’m using a Waterfield Design Tech Folio and I need a thin mouse, as the Arc flattens out when not in use.

I have the Arc and it works with my iPad.

I got an MX Anywhere 2 mouse to try using with my iPad Pro - as much out of curiosity as anything. I really have no complaints with how it works, but every time I pull it out and use I think ‘why’? One of the reasons I love using the iPad is the touch interface and not having to use a secondary tool to operate - so I have only ever used the mouse on my desk in the office and then after a few minutes using as a novelty, invariably switch off and put away. If I want to use a mouse, I will use a MacBook.

I use myiPad Pro on my lap 90% of the time. But, frankly I’ve got short arms and a mouse would help when using a keyboard on a desktop. I do understand the use of a mouse o\with an iPad I a bit iffy. I guess I’ll find out. I wish Brydge would come out with a track pad/keyboard. I’ve seen another party has, but I’m a little wary of an unknown company. As far as laptops go I don’t want an iPad and laptop. I suppose I should splurg for both.

Their stylus is revolutionary. Nothing on the market is as good. If they do something for mouse support as good as the Apple Pencil, they can celebrate whatever they want.

I use MX Master 3 and it works well, before that I used the original MX Master, it also worked well.

I have the Logitech M590. The cursor moves but none of the buttons work.

Great! Thank you! I guess I’ll go with the “Evil Empire” Microsoft then🤣 Any hints or recommendations for set-up or use?
I own one, but I wouldn’t recommend the Arc Mouse, or the Apple Magic Mouse for you iPad.

IMO, what works best with iPadOS is a mouse that has more than 2 buttons (which is what the Arc has). I have a Logitech Anywhere MX 2s and I‘d recommend that over the Arc. (It’s also cheaper, and is very easy to switch to your Macbook if you own one, I love it.)

You can set the 3 extra buttons to bring up whatever you like, whether it be Control Center, the Dock, App Switcher, the Home button, etc., which I find very helpful. The “mouse” experience on iPadOS is not the same as a desktop. It’s mimicking your finger input, so you need to click and hold the mouse down and then drag to bring up slide over, the dock, etc. Having dedicated buttons for that is a lot easier IMO.

Also, the physical scroll wheel is better than the touch scroll on the Arc or Magic Mouse.

Thanks! I'm returning at the Arc based on your recommendation. Will order the MX 2s. I hope it fits in my Waterfield Tech Folio. Also, I did read a review on Amazon that the MX2s was noisy. Is this true. Could I use it in a coffee shop or library?
