We need to make sure Trackballs work. I’ve never gone back to mice, which hurt the wrists and you need to move your whole arm to mouse around.
After a drunk driver ran a red light and t-boned my SUV 10 years ago, my physical therapist suggested I replace my mouse with a Trackball. Which just takes light finger tips to use. After a year my shoulder was back to normal. (Pro Tip in a car accident or just before If you know you are gonna get hit Let Go of the steering wheel holding on causes more injuries)

Hope they work, for your sake, Alex.

If Apple really wants to call this an Accessibility device then trackballs need to be supported.

I'm trying to pair an old Mac trackpad, the ones that used the two double A batteries. I turn it on and try to pair it though it never shows up. Anyone know if this model is compatible or if there is something else going on? The green light flashed on the trackpad and I tried pressing and holding it when it stayed on and neither helped.
Thanks.

I have found some glitchy issues within apps. For instance in Designer, if you tap with the pencil using the pen tool, it will create a point. Tap again and it creates another point with a line between them. But when using a mouse, tapping a second point does not create a line between them. In Clip Studio Paint, trying to select indiviual frames on a comic is impossible with the mouse, but easy with the pencil. I have desktop versions of these apps and I can do all this with a mouse on a PC. It makes the iPad experience very disorientating. Do you think it is a problem with apps and they just need to update, or is it a problem with using a mouse with these sort of design apps on an iPad? I like using the mouse otherwise, but this puts me off.

What the best way of bugging Apple with feature request?

But really, I'm just curious as to why they are slow at releasing full support. It's a bit odd. Lot's of scenarios come to mind.

I went to the local Apple store yesterday to enquire which mice work with the iPad since both of my Apple mice work poorly - they work until I pause for a minute or more than they require a click to come back (with many unintended consequences since the click registers). I was surprisingly met with a bit of hostility by the "tech expert" at the store - how dare I use a feature intended purely for accessibility as a replacement for the touch interface?

I am convinced that the rather poor mouse support (no acceleration, no decent pointer, etc.) will not be improved since Apple really doesn't believe in the feature.

Don't base anything on that experience. It means nothing. Apple will give people what they want, period.

But that is amusing. Workers there believing mice on iPads are only for 'injured people'. "When all else fails, and you are on the cusp of death, use the mouse, and only then".

It's s joke. Lighten up :D

Since my Apple mice don't work well with iPad, I was wondering what other mice people have gotten to work? I noticed that someone had success with a Logitech MX Master 2s, but these are almost impossible to find. I just ordered a MX720, but I have heard these have bluetooth issues with Macs and possibly with iPads. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Logitech M535 which works extremely well. It is a bluetooth mouse. Nothing fancy just a basic mouse.

I got a secondhand gaming mouse (zelotes if that means anything; as a non-gamer it means nothing to me). Long and short of it is that it works extremely well. I use the pencil for drawing, touch when using the iPad ’normally’ and a keyboard and mouse for work. Mouse has up to 7 buttons, I think, but haven’t needed that many options as touching scroll once acts as ‘home‘ and twice brings up ‘app switcher’. As a writer I’ve been longing for mouse support for years and I’m not disappointed—not even by the giant cursor so many complain of. I have visual issues and I LIKE the big cursor, I often struggle with the traditional kind.

Pair via Switch Control > Switches > Bluetooth Devices > under Accessibility Settings
Yes, understood, but the problem is it doesn’t see it. I am wondering if you need to connect it wired the first time to pair with the iPad? Apparently not...but I can’t get it to see the MM2...

I connected two Magic Mouse 2's and it worked on the first try through the Switch Control method. It works fine and really gives the iPad the feel of it being a real laptop replacement. If scrolling and gestures would one day be supported it would be almost a perfect mouse for the iPad.

How did you prevent the mouse from going to sleep? I can connect my Magic Mouse 2 and it works OK until I pause for a minute or longer. Then it requires a tap on the mouse to get it working again. Unfortunately, even though the pointer is not visible, the click registers with unpredictable results. This is very annoying.

I tried the newly added mouse support (albeit somewhat unofficially added).
It feels like one of those things that Apple is so reluctant to implement like two button mouse support. The thing is that those stuffs are eventually implemented because of it’s usefulness. I really hope the time Apple takes to really implement an official mouse support is short enough.

The current implementation is so stupid that it’s really shameful.

I'm using a basic Logitech mouse (M535) that works great. When using with Brydge keyboard (mini 4) it makes everything easier. Obviously when I take the Brydge off and use the iPad in my hand then I'm not using the mouse. But that's the great thing about it. It's an added option that breaks nothing.

It's a bit strange that they say this is meant for accessibility folks. I'd think that if someone really needs this then Apple wouldn't make it difficult for them to find and configure. As is, I don't think they could have added more steps to the process. Crikey, it's not easy for those of us who don't need it.
