Well I finally tried it all out, and I am very sad to report that my 10.5” iPad Pro won’t connect to my Magic Trackpad 2 because it uses too much power to be supported by the Lightning port. Even though it contains its own very capable built in battery.

Honestly, I have to say, I’m really very frustrated by all of this. I’ve been sending feedback about mouse support for literally years now, and even suggested it to them as an accessibility option if nothing else (I have some upper back, shoulder and wrist problems that pretty much make it a necessity for me when I’m trying to use my iPad at my desk for any period of time more than a few minutes).

The Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Mouse 2 are the two devices I happen to own and also the two pointing devices I happen to like the best. They’re not cheap either, and they’re freaking made by Apple for goodness sakes. The fact that they’re specifically excluded from being supported on my iPad, and seemingly the only two devices that are specifically excluded, after I’ve waited for this, is just so frustrating to me. Honestly I’ve never actually been so disappointing by something Apple did until now, which says a lot. And it’s about an accessibility feature, of all things.

Anyway, sorry for the little rant...I just had to vent! I guess I’m not as optimistic as you are that they’ll include support for the mouse and trackpad in a point release...
Maybe this will help, I saw it on another thread.

I was in your boat, ended up buying a MS Anywhere 2 on Amazon for 50, I like it much better than my Magic Mouse 2. The extra buttons are a big help in iPadOS.

Currently using iPad OS public beta 5 on an iPad 5th generation, paired a Logitech M535 Bluetooth mouse to it easily and navigated around perfectly, was able to use my Bluetooth keyboard at the same time, use the scroll wheel to scroll web pages, click the scroll wheel to go back to the home screen, click the dots to navigate to the different pages of apps. It is like using a mini computer. The best part, sorry I am a Windows user because of work, I could remote desktop into a Windows computer and use the mouse like normal on that machine, except right click, but I figured out that if I long press left click and let go on something, the right click menu shows up. I can move the mouse the wake the iPad. Very impressed so far. Now when I travel, all I will carry with me is an iPad, small Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and my PS4 controller (yeah tested out the remote play and it works pretty decent). Highly impressed with iPad OS so far..

I just tried the method posted by @The Game 161 and @Jedimindtrick and it works! I have my Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 connected to my 10.5 iPad Pro via Bluetooth and working perfectly. I’m so happy with this setup. Now if Apple would only add multitouch/gestures that the devices already have, it’d be perfect!

Got my mouse working great! Did some remapping and found a setup that works for me.

However the scroll wheel moves in the reverse direction from what I am used to. Is there some way to reverse that? I couldnt find an option.

Also is anyone else having issues with pinching. I push a button to pinch but after i do it, the cursor still seems stuck on the pinch mode.

Hello! there is no way to reverse the scroll direction (or speed). About pinch issue, i have it too. It’s a bug and has been like that since beta 1. Double tap and long press are also broken

Yeah i tried making my right click those options and my mouse freaked out. Ended up setting it to the control center so i could quickly adjust volume and brightness

Please submit a bug report about the lack of reverse scroll support.

Maybe if enough of us complain, they will finally add it.

If I can give my opinion: control center is quite easy to activate anyway...why don’t you try assigning right click to calling the dock? It made multitasking SO much better for me! Now, most of the times, I don’t even need to go to the app switcher. Give it a try if you feel like it. :)

I am using a 5 button mouse so I have dock put on the side. I appreciate the advice though

The mouse works pretty well on my 10.5 iPad Pro with the old Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse, though scrolling is in the wrong direction. It makes the iPad immeasurably more useable than with the touch interface, in my opinion.

The only problem I am having is the disappearance of the pointer in a few seconds (I know it is adjustable to 60 seconds, though this is buggy). After a minute of inactivity you always need to click the mouse to get it to work and this can have unexpected consequences since the pointer is not visible. (This is also the case with the Magic Mouse II) Is there a fix?

Thanks.

It's not just adjustable up to 60 seconds, there is an "Auto-Hide" option that you can disable. It's in the "pointer style" → Auto-Hide section, right before the section to set the timer.

I hope they make long tap a.k.a. right click available for one mouse button
In theory the option is already there, it just doesn't work properly ATM. I expect them to fix it by the next beta or remove it.

Turning off "Auto-hide" does very little - the mouse pointer still disappears in about 10 seconds

Hi,

I am having issues with my iPad Pro 11 on ipad OS. As soon as my assistive touch is turned on my Bluetooth keyboard plays up. Extremely laggy, and any space bar input and the cursor continues across the screen with continual space bar inputs same for delete but backwards. Happens with two different brand keyboards so its not the individual keyboard. This makes using the mouse difficult. I can use the mouse with assistive touch on but then not my keyboard, or assistive touch off and no mouse. Any ideas??

So what is this wrong scroll direction everyone is talking about? Is it now like old school scrolling as it always was/is on Windows (move up to go up the page and down to go down) or is it like Apple's natural scrolling (move up to go down the page and down to go up)?

Uhmm...not sure but if you have the option “full keyboard access” turned on, try turning it off. =)

The iPad scrolling is Apple’s natural scrolling.

However, Apple’s natural scrolling is not natural for many long time Mac users, since it’s in the reverse direction of Apple’s original scrolling. Apple didn't introduce natural scrolling in Macs until long after iOS came out.

Aaah OK, I understand now, thanks guys. For me this is actually the way I would like it to work :) After the iPhone and moving to the Mac with Natural scrolling, I even change the scrolling on my Windows computers to be like this. But it would obviously be better if there was an option for people who don't like it.

I don’t seem to have the full keyboard access option. I am on the latest IPad OS 13 update but it doesn’t seem to be there.

If anyone has a chance to test 13.1 I’d love to know what if any changes there are with mouse support, particularly when it comes to the Magic Mouse/Trackpad 2.

Just tried Magical Trackpad 2 it works but still no Mac like gestures.
Any new options for scrolling direction, other options for Mouse support?

seems like Apple is listening and improves mouse support, right click as long press is great!

RIGHT CLICK AS LONG PRESS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate that something this simple took this long to integrate into iOS/iPadOS....but it’s a game changer for me. Very glad I returned my iPad Pro 11 and picked up the 12.9, this is a laptop replace for me.
