No more “overscroll” with mouse wheel, that thing bugd me like hell! :_D

Here, I just realise a very surprising thing regarding mouse support in iOS 13. If the mouse has DPI setting, iOS will honour this setting and move mouse cursor on the screen accordingly. Also, if the mouse has its unique name, the name will be displayed properly. I believe someone has mentioned that wired gaming mouse works great with iOS 13 in iPad Pro. I just realise this cause I just got a gaming mouse to try out.

Believe me, it’s the correct beta (if you need proof: i can select icon size in the home screen, i have the updated share menu, etc). It’s just not smaller than beta4 on my iPad. Could you post a screenshot?
In my case: here is an old screenshot from beta 4 (which saved the cursor in screenshots) visualized in beta 5, and therefore with both cursors, as small as I could select from the options in the two betas. I don’t see any size difference....i can say without any doubt (see screenshot) that, ON MY SYSTEM, there is no such option. Very strange.

ps: might be just my impression but scrolling speed seems to be slightly faster (which is good).

pps: the first screenshot is to “prove” that I am really with the correct beta. ;)

I’ve seen YouTube videos of people having the option to make the curser even smaller on Beta 5. Seen it on several different iPad models. You don’t have the option showing on yours?

No, I just have a bar with 10 ticks, exactly like since beta 3 (https://www.cultofmac.com/636176/ipad-mouse-ipados-13-beta-3/).
Would you like to share the youtube videos with me?
I have seen videos that SAY that there is support for smaller cursors and then show the same exact preference window from beta 3 and the cursor doesn't look any smaller to me. Obviously I am not saying other people are lying but I have measured cursor size between previous betas vs beta5 and minimum size is exactly the same on my device. However I wonder if somebody made a wrong initial statement and others are just reporting incorrect information.

I didn’t assume that you were lying. I’m running the public beta 4 but I haven’t tried mouse support yet. I haven’t used a mouse for around 19 years. I’ve used a trackpad but not a mouse. I do like having the option though. I’m not ever going to use a mouse if the cursor stays as ugly as it currently is. That’s why I was hoping it had gotten smaller.

there’s several “well know” channels on YouTube reporting that beta 5 allows the cursor to be smaller. However, they don’t do a side by side from the previous beta, so I have nothing but their word to go on.

I understand! Same, I absolutely believe everybody is in good faith and just having a friendly conversation to try to solve this little mystery. If my tone made you believe I was accusing you of something, I apologize, it was not my intention. :) I would like to have a smaller cursor as well, but more than anything, I miss the traditional arrow cursor. Luckily, since beta 3, the cursor is much smaller and not so bad at all compared to when the feature appeared (it used to be HUGE).

Ugh. Why?! This makes absolutely no sense.
I think it’s a technical reason. I believe they would gladly support their own devices and I bet they will in the future, possibly in a 13.x release. It’s just not ready to ship.

Thanks but no reason to apologize to me. I didn’t take your tone as accusing at all. I, like you, am just trying to figure out what’s happing with the cursor. I’m hoping Apple makes it much smaller. I’m personally not interested in using a mouse but I do think I’d like a trackpad. I’m hoping this is all leading up to that.

Ideally, i would prefer a trackpad as well. I have read somewhere that you can use the magic trackpad 2 with a lightning cable. Have you tried it?

I really hope you’re right! I already have a Magic Trackpad 2 and I’m not about to buy something else. It’s the easiest thing for me to use. But I also actually need mouse support for working with my iPad at my desk because of shoulder issues. If an Apple pointing device is the only one not supported, that would be the craziest thing.

I agree! Does your MT2 work when connected via lightning?

I haven’t had a chance to test it yet since I don’t have a lightning to USB adapter handy, but I plan on getting one this week to try it out. I’ll let you know when I do!

Side note: I hope all you guys and gals running the beta could take a moment to send feedback on this, if you haven’t already!

No worries, I have sent a lot of feedback on mouse support. ;-)
Side note: iPadOS13 is making me hate the lightning port even more, when i did
not think it was possible.

Overscroll? What do you mean by that?
So, I’m using a free wheel Logitech and when you spin the wheel and tha Page reached the top or bottom, it draged the Page over a little and stood that way. Now if the Page reaches the end the scroll stops immediatelly.

Thanks for the clarification.

I have only just got around to pairing my first gen Magic Mouse to the ipad. Works great! I just wish the scrolling worked.

Regardless, its progress.

I read that in Beta 6 you can now map a mouse button to Long Press and 3D Touch. They don't work yet, but this would be the perfect right mouse click key bind.

This option was available in beta 5 too, but it didn’t work. Haven’t tried it in 6, but it seems it’s still not functional. It looks like it’s going to be a cool addition to the mouse functionality.

I haven't tried it. The only trackpad I have is on my MacBook. Will it only work with a lighting cable or would a USB-C cable also work? That may be worth a try.

Well I finally tried it all out, and I am very sad to report that my 10.5” iPad Pro won’t connect to my Magic Trackpad 2 because it uses too much power to be supported by the Lightning port. Even though it contains its own very capable built in battery.

Honestly, I have to say, I’m really very frustrated by all of this. I’ve been sending feedback about mouse support for literally years now, and even suggested it to them as an accessibility option if nothing else (I have some upper back, shoulder and wrist problems that pretty much make it a necessity for me when I’m trying to use my iPad at my desk for any period of time more than a few minutes).

The Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Mouse 2 are the two devices I happen to own and also the two pointing devices I happen to like the best. They’re not cheap either, and they’re freaking made by Apple for goodness sakes. The fact that they’re specifically excluded from being supported on my iPad, and seemingly the only two devices that are specifically excluded, after I’ve waited for this, is just so frustrating to me. Honestly I’ve never actually been so disappointing by something Apple did until now, which says a lot. And it’s about an accessibility feature, of all things.

Anyway, sorry for the little rant...I just had to vent! I guess I’m not as optimistic as you are that they’ll include support for the mouse and trackpad in a point release...

Hi. No need to be sorry at all: this 10-years waiting has been extenuating for me as well, and I do not have physical problems so I can only imagine how bad it was for you. Apple should be ashamed for having overlooked the needs of part of its user base for so long and only for ideologic reasons (=business reasons).

The good news is: they are working on it now. I cannot imagine they are happy about supporting everything except for their own (very expensive) devices. I think it's not about whether support will come, but about WHEN. It could well be a 13.x point release.

I wonder...do you have the old lightning adapter or the new USB3 one? The new one has a lightning port, in addition to the USB3. If you connect that to a power plug, then it might work properly (well, except for gestures, which are not supported). It's a shame that apple chose to stick with lightning for so long and even now, for non pro iPads....hopefully the next generation will be all usb-c, which doesn't have these kinds of power limitations.

We are getting there. We waited for so long, now we have something and just need to wait a little more for it to get good. =)

I absolutely love it. (Aside from the WAY too big cursor.)

For a first beta, its amazing. I have a Logitech MX Anywhere with 5 buttons, and it’s been surprisingly easy to use.

I really hope that Apple notices how much people will enjoy using this feature and will further implement it into iPadOS.

Couple things that made it better:
You can add Assistive Touch to Control Center to quickly toggle it on or off.
You can also have the Assistive Touch button hidden, so that the only thing on the screen is the cursor.

You can customize the buttons to do a variety of things, and I really liked toying with it, especially controls to invoke the Dock and Control Center.

I used the mouse for everything in these videos, including home button. The scroll button seems to work everywhere, including Settings menus.

Can yu tell if wired mouse and keyboard also works or not
I mean if i connect a wired mouse with lightning to usb 3 adaptet on my ipad air 3 will it work ??
Or does it only support wireless ones???

It manly depends on how much power the mouse requires. Numerous mice just work, both the wired ones and the ones with a USB wireless transmitter. Some require the iPad to be attached to a power plug to work around the lightning port power limitation. Overall, you have a very good chance that it will work fine, at least when you don't need portability! Same for keyboards.
