Lol I know you do but if they are all OLED-only options next year and the pwm is unchanged I’m out.

Well, they’re not all going to be OLED panels. LG is now slated/rumored to produce the LCD panel (JDI May be ruled out) for the new ‘iPhone SE two’ for 2020. But I gather that’s not going to appeal to everyone for that specific phone demographic, but it does me personally, as I’m downsizing from the Max.

Is the SE2 the rumored ‘8 refresh’? That’s how I believe it’s been described anyway. I hadn’t considered that in my response. I was meaning the 11, 11Pro, and 11Pro Max successors. Have you heard anything recently on the rumored 5.4” version and would you choose the SE 2 over the 5.4” rumored Pro?

Right, there’s the 4.7 inch iPhone SE two that’s been rumored heavily for 2020, but it first started with the 5.4 variant months ago. I think at this point, we can pretty much expect the 4.7 inch iPhone in a condensed form factor.

For me, I would choose the SE simply because I don’t need a large smart phone anymore with me. There’s nice advantages that Apple includes for the more premium [Expensive] iPhones, but in retrospect, I don’t need to have the newest camera, 5G, 3D Touch has now been eliminated, and all I really could Ask for is the latest A13 processor/at least 3 or 4 GB of RAM and adequate battery life. Everything else, I can resort to my laptop, iPads, desktop, etc.

I’d say we should see this phone no later than April 2020. Which would make sense, because Apple is not going to include this specific model in their iPhone fall lineup, simply because they want to create a separation to give the smaller iPhone the notoriety it deserves. Should be interesting.

Being told that, I have to admit that Apple did a terrific job with iOS 13, watchOS 6 and Catalina packing them with an insane amount of bugs. (Can't speak about iPadOS because my only iPad is the infamous iPad 3)

It is far from enough to push me to Android or Windows but seriously... makes me appreciate how amazing iOS 12 and watchOS 5 were.

My wife is technically challenged and I have found the Apple eco system works well with her (MacBook and iPhone). She loves the integration with them as well as with my Apple products from a sharing and scheduling point of view.

Even simple stuff like Apple TV runs applications better (Hulu in particular) then Samsung TV's (current Q70).

For all their warts, Apple has done very well integrating across their devices.

Really ? I’ve not noticed any bugs in iOS 13 or Watch OS 6.

I rely a lot on reminders. They're completely broken for me; Sync doesn't work most of the times (I must complete them in the three devices, it's absurd), search no longer works per list, you need to go to the global view to search. But you need to be in a list to add a reminder, so the game of searching/adding is awful.
Often Location based triggers don't record the location properly when I set them from the Mac.

Shortcuts no longer work on Apple Watch: no middle ground here. It just spins for a long time to tell you that you can screw yourself.
There is frequently an awful delay when you tap the screen to turn it on.

Siri cards appear duplicated (I use the Siri face).
Overall, performance is slightly worse except Safari, which feels snappier. Oh, speaking of Safari, when you click the tabs button to close the current tabs it doesn't always show the current tab in the list.
Battery life is worse too.

This is on an iPhone SE and S4 Apple Watch.

I updated all because of noise meter (like it), reminders overhaul (facepalm) Apple ID sign up (haven't seen apps supporting it yet) and to see if they fixed Siri lag on the Watch (they did by making it unusable).

I can sort of live with it, but I lived better before.

I guess it depends on the use case and what hardware you have. Some of those things don’t apply to me plus I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an Apple Series 5 Watch. My MacBook Pro is not on Catalina as I’ve not upgraded to that. I can see some people experiencing bugs more then others.

Best, is entirety subjective and very difficult to pin down to any mere hardware metrics. That’s even before you get to the whole argument that arises when Samsung diehards refuse to accept the iPhone could ever be better and vice versa of course.

To me, as indeed you touched on yourself, it’s far more than simple hardware specifications, though I do personally believe Apple has the best chip designs.

With Apple, it’s the harmony that exists between the raw silicone and the software, the broad integration and seamless interoperability with the whole Apple ecosystem. The outstanding customer service and after-sales support which extends to 5 or so years of constant software and security updates (something most manufacturers can’t get close to).

Indeed, even Apples stance on user privacy is an important factor for me. I don’t even mind sharing some of my data with Apple, because I know it uses advanced differential privacy so that the information isn’t tied to my user account and further extrapolated to target advertising at me.

Personally I have never trusted any company who makes billions of dollars, without really selling a product. They provide people with software or services, completely free and few people question where the money comes from. It’s us, we are the product (*cough Facebook cough*).

But everyone has their own opinion on that sort of thing, quite rightly so and I’m really just waffling on about it because I’m typing and my morphine has kicked in. :p

At the end of the day, none of it matters, not to most people anyway. Buy the products you like, the ones that make you happy and just enjoy them. We’re all on this small spinning rock for far too short a time to do otherwise.

Just before anyone labels me an Apple sheep - hate that phrase. Because after that they probably will, I’ll just mention that while, yes, I am predominantly an Apple user, I also have several Windows and Linux based computers and, shock, even an Android device or two. I even have a Google Home Mini (Spotify gave me that) though it never has and never will come out of it's box, wasteful I know, but no-one I know wants it in their house, I should probably sell it, but, meh.

You know that this doesn't help when trying to look less like a fanboy, right? :D

But I see your point. I deal with Linux and Windows at work (90% Mac, 10% the rest) and 5 minutes with Windows are usually enough to make me run back to Mac to heal the wounds.

Same thing with Android. Every time I have to "fix" some Android phone from a family member it does not matter if it's a flagship or a cheaper one: I understand why it's enough for so many people, but I want no part of it.

Well, that ended up inevitable as I was writing it, but you know what, I care not, I am an Apple fan, I have many Apple products. But, my Windows 10 desktop sits proudly next to my iMac, it’s a great desktop/laptop operating system - though using it on a tablet still drives me to frustration.
My HP Microserver with Windows server 2012, sits across the office and is the backbone of my media serving, not just for me and my work, but for my entire family, wherever they may be. Again, it’s a brilliant operating system, so good that I still don’t see the need to upgrade it and it still gets security updates.

And so on and so on. I’m platform agnostic in the larger picture, if my iMac were to stop working, I would only replace it because a Mac is essential to my work. Otherwise, I’d happily just use my Windows desktop.

But I choose to use Apple products as my daily drivers because of all of them, I trust Apple more to keep me secure and my data private. When you’ve spent as many boring weeks pouring over the most minute details in terms and conditions as I have, yes I’m that bad, it’s clear they are the lesser of evils out there.

But to each their own, I don’t try and convince people they should be like me and use Apple products, quite the opposite, if I’m asked for advice it will be tailored to the person asking, not my own personal opinions.

Win 7 for me, via Parallels on a iMac. Mostly it just runs my Epson photo printer. The VM isn’t connected to the internet and doesn’t get updated (break my printer).

If I’m honest with myself Samsung for instance is better than Apple at making smartphones. I even think the Pixel 4 is on par with the iPhone Pro. I can’t deny this.

But there’s one thing that Samsung and Google can’t beat Apple at. Apple’s hardware / software works almost flawlessly between together across all its products. The iPhone > Apple Watch > iPad integration blows Samsung / Android / Google away.

The Note 10 makes me want to ditch my 11 Pro but what about my usage of a smart watch and a tablet working together like how Apple does?
You’ve hit the nail on the head. I had the us note 10+ for about 2 weeks. The hardware is amazing. I loved that phone but in terms of ecosystem it pales in comparison. I don’t mind Samsung’s software or android but there are some features in iOS I’ve just grown accustomed to over the years which I couldn’t replicate on android easily.

I wish the note 10 + ran iOS with all of the best parts of android/One UI. That would be a dream phone.

The 11S Pro 5.4” will be a bit smaller than iPhone SE2.

I am solely as iPhone user and don't dabble with tablets and watches so this isn't from my personal experience, but a close friend uses the Note 10+, a Samsung watch, and an android tablet and he is more than satisfied in that ecosystem. He feels he has increased flexibility to make things work the way he wants. In some ways he would prefer the Apple Watch over the Samsung Watch, and I know he would prefer an iPad over whatever tablet he has, but his phone is priority number one and he feels the Note 10+ in conjunction with his usage preferences trumps all. So there's that, for what it is worth.
I briefly had a note 10+ before my 11 pro. I also had the galaxy watch and the galaxy buds. I kept my iPad Pro and didn’t get a Samsung tablet. The galaxy watch was decent, the main problem I had with it is that it just wasn’t as good as an Apple Watch. I think if you’ve never had an Apple Watch the Samsung Watch is perfectly fine. It works as advertised. The Apple Watch is just better. The galaxy buds didn’t fit in my ears very well even trying all the different tips. Also they don’t have the same level of integration that my AirPods have with my Apple devices.

I have iPads and a Mac but my phone/iPhone is my primary computer. It is very important to me but I do need some level of integration with my other devices. The note 10+ was amazing as a stand-alone device but i need more than just a good phone.

Great hardware? maybe the camera. I just recently sold my Note 10 Plus and switched to Apple for the first time. Reason being, very simply, the fingerprint scanner on the S10 and Note 10 is the worst piece of crap ever created! It works 1 out of 10 times and yes I have registered it more than 10 times properly at different angles. Worst is when I am in a rush to unlock my phone and keeps failing so I end up having to enter my passcode manually, makes me wanna break the damn thing! Oh and their face unlock is no better. This is one convenience that is priceless for me with the iPhone how can I just glance at it and it's already unlocked.

This coming from a hardcore Android phone who has just tried Apple products.
The FPS on the note 10+ wasn’t as bad/annoying as I feared. It worked pretty well and I think it was good for first generation. However it is nowhere near as reliable as Face ID.

Biggest mistake I ever made getting the S10 plus/galaxy watch and tab S4...the amount I got back from what I paid for was about £600 and it cost over £1400...never again. Least with apple products when you sell them you can get good value back.

As much as I like android products I would never buy another android product as when it comes to the complete package it just does not compare to IOS...Apple Watch for one is one product android will never complete with. Tablets too I guess...iPad is head and shoulders the only tablet worth buying.

I don’t even like to think about the all the money I lost switching to the note 10+ and then having to switch back and re buy the Apple Watch and all the iPhones I went through before I got the 11 pro max (Xr, Xs Max).

I didn’t even bother with an android tablet. The only good things was that I never got round to selling my AirPods before I came to my senses and switched back. Ive tried having an iPhone, an iPhone and and android phone and an android phone on its own. The only one that works perfectly for me is to just have an iPhone. Anytime I try and introduce an android phone into the equation it just doesn’t work for me. I end up selling it and loosing lots of money.

Yeah i basically bought two apple watches in space of 3-4 months after selling it then buying then getting the new series 5...madness. But lesson learnt.

Such a great job with bugs that I did in fact switch to Android. I use G Suite and have a Chromebook, so it makes sense. My family being all iPhone was the only reason I was reluctant to switch. But I prefer to get my work emails in a timely manner, for my calendar invites to work properly, reminders to sync, etc.

I may very well come back one day, but the mess that is iOS 13 needs to get fixed first.

come back one day? Lol. You act as if iOS updates are static and few and far between. They will get fixed. Sounds like to me you should have not updated from iOS 12. Anytime new features are brought on board it’s always going to take several little updates following September’s release to iron everything out. The reason iOS 12 was so stable is because they spent the time stabilizing with no major features. In your use case you should just carry both operating systems so if one takes a dip in the bug pool you have options

Shouldn't have updated? No kidding.

Little bugs are fine. Bugs that render native apps useless (to me) are not OK.

Unlike many people here I can separate my experience from that of others, though. If someone is not having major issues then that's great. I was to the point I could no longer rely on my phone for what I consider to be basic tasks.

This! I’ve tried so many times to use android but the whole experience is just nowhere close to being in the Apple ecosystem. Android just doesn’t have an ecosystem. It’s too open.

I don’t have anything against Android, as I’ve said before it’s just an operating sysyem. What I do have a problem with is the baggage that comes with it, Google’s business model, Samsung’s bloatware and unremovable ‘features’, and carrier bloatware for icing on the Pie (pun intended). If I buy a $1,000/£1,000 phone, my first task shouldn’t be to remanufacture the phone to get away from that stuff. They should be giving me that phone for free. Android proponents like to talk about ‘choice’, and there is undoubtedly more flexibility than iOS, unless you choose to keep Google and Sammy from spying on you, tracking you constantly, selling your data, and serving you ads. That’s a choice that you don’t have. I have an idea, turn that ‘Bixby button’ into a ‘Don’t spy on me’ button! If that doesn’t matter to you, you‘re good to go.

Complex software always has bugs, especially in ‘point 0’ releases and iOS 13 and Catalina have been buggier than usual, but simple security fails show lack of due diligence by the manufacturers.
This is disturbing, especially the fingerprint scanner. Fingerprint authentication has been around for years, so a fail is really inexcusable. Same for the ‘attention’ fault that allows the Pixel 4 to be unlocked with eyes closed - apparently this feature was present in beta and then removed from release devices. Removed? How is that a good thing? Just guessing, but I’d guess that the failure rate was too high with it enabled For some reason, so they tossed security out the window. Or it drained already borderline battery Life.
