You check in the morning on the Apple app or some other app?
Yes, the ones I got were all through the app. Not really a set time as they can pop up randomly. Either they get a shipment and load some inventory online or you could also have cancelled orders which they put on there as well. Are you thinking about returning yours?

It probably goes by lots. Any phone in your country and/or store for a while will be probably like this. Maybe in a month it will be different, the gap might be more on the left, on the right, or on the bottom. My gold is fine so they're not all like this. Each and every phone has different problems of course. Maybe one with no gap will have a dimmer display, or warmer on one side, or slightly out of focus camera, or dead pixels, or slightly worse battery life or antennas etc. We must settle on an acceptable level of quality.

Precisely. This is why I am not returning my 13 mini. It doesn’t have obscene gaps. It’s just a gap you notice some time under an angle of light that shines on the metal inside.

My 13 mini has a nicely lit screen, no unevenness or particular color temperature tilt. Battery capacity is slightly over design capacity. All in all, not returning it. Who knows if the replacement might be gap-less but contain other issues I would find unacceptable?! This gap - it’s acceptable and liveable. If I get screen issues on the replacement, that won’t be liveable.

This is pretty much where I have settled now. I have a gap(but it’s not as bad as some I have seen) but my phone otherwise seems perfect. Especially battery, it’s seemed to really settle in and is giving incredible battery life- where that always hasn’t been the case(even my 12 pro max wasn’t living up to advertised times), so like others said, gotta choose what matters most. I’ve had every single iPhone since release- you can find something wrong with every single one in some aspect. If people tell you otherwise, they just don’t get what the possible issues are OR their eye isn’t trained to recognize it or be bothered by it.

I had an iPhone 12 Mini before my 13 Pro. Last year, shortly after I got the Mini, I read a thread on here about these gaps on the new iPhones where people were slipping a piece of paper between the body and the glass. I tried it on my Mini and found that I too, could slip a piece of paper between the body and the glass. Then I went on with my life. Much ado about nothing.

Exactly. Unless it is something truly disruptive like some photos, it doesn't matter at all.

Hello all. I'm not sure if I'm affected too. Just unboxed my 13 Pro Max and it looked like this. Is is normal or not? I really want to have second opinion.

Thank you!

No, it's not normal to read about a "problem" that a small number of people are complaining about, that you can't see for yourself, and ask people on a forum to give an opinion about your device base on a picture you post. If you don't see a problem, there is no problem.

Ask yourself if it’s a problem for you or not. Then you’ll know

It’s been pretty widely accepted now that these gaps do not affect water resistance, so that shouldn’t be a worry with these gaps

I think we are beating a dead horse with this thread but it really boils down to what you want...you can't take advice from people here as its ultimately your money/device. That being said, you do have this "gap" but so does every phone to varying degrees. Some are very obvious and some are so minimal you would barely notice. I think you need to ask yourself about the rest of the phone....is the screen acceptable? chips in the stainless? camera issues?...the list can go on of potential manufacturing variances. If this is the only thing your questioning then I would without a doubt keep it. Its really a non-issue as it doesn't impact anything functionally. I had a buddy who bought 2 Pro's and 2 Pro Max's yesterday (don't ask me why). All of them had a gap to different extents. Alongside having this "gap", the camera lens scratched on one, chips in the chassis of another and a washed out/dull screen on the other with volume up and down buttons that didn't click (not saying its an issue but just odd). I guess what I am getting at is the odds are against you if you start buying and returning as QC seems worse than normal this year.

If you don’t see an issue.. then try not to worry about it.
BUT this is what caught my eye:
(It would bug me, but I’m crazy 😜)

I added my pic for reference. No phone is perfect, it’s all about what you’re willing to accept and live with.

Yes unfortunately that's what my first one had too.

It's silly because if Apple just painted those parts pure black then this thread wouldn’t even exist 🤦‍♂️

Hello and thank You all for the input. Just came back home. I was at our local Apple Repair, iPhonebutiken, here in Sweden in my town. The guy told me that everything is as it is, no gap no nothing.

He looked it from every angle. And he had light on. Even IF it did, the phone have protection (that Apple glued too) so no particals such as dust and dirt or water can go there.

I will phone back Apple Sweden and let them know about this. Or what they think.

Of course that a 15000 SEK-phone is not that premium if some parts were sloppy made. It's like buying a brand new Porsche and the part of the front spoiler is bit skew. Or back wing.

Swedish Apple never heard of this issue before and are taking it very seriously.

So we will see. I will let You know what was the outcome.

To be fair, your picture is apples to oranges to his...no spot light or sun hitting the area at different angles : )

Anyway, enough with this thread. I can't believe I keep coming back to it!

The replacement phone I got still has a gap, but it is definitely much smaller and not one I would've noticed if I wasn't looking for it. So there is definitely a lottery with these gaps and some get lucky, some don't.

Either way it very likely as you said doesn't affect the functionality of the phone in any way, nor does it affect the water resistance or dust seal

Argh!
how many times must I repeat this?!?
I held my dam phone in light (ie led flashlight, sunlight etc…) from every angle I could hold it!! AND NO REFLECTIVE METAL WAS VISIBLE!! Unlike my other phone!!

It doesn’t affect the phone’s functionality , it’s an “aesthetic” issue… got it…
let it rest!!! We can agree to disagree and leave it at that! I’m happy …. you’re happy, so why continue belaboring the point??????

Nope I cannot give two ***** about what other people say on the internet...as long as your happy that's all that matters. I wouldn't believe you one way or another unless I had it in hand so not going to waste time going back and forth with someone on a forum. We are talking about a thousand dollar phone that will be replaced in 11 months for many. I use it, make money with it, and enjoy it for what it is. If people are that obsessed and nuts to obsess over a damn phone so be it. I got more important priorities in life to harp on a mass produced object. Its not a car or watch that was built totally by hand which then is a different story to demand perfection and even in that case could be minor issues (I've experienced it). Anyway, enjoy your device.

All of You:

I didn't meant to upset anyone here. Nor trigger up some heat. We are all humans and we see things differently. I have contacted my retailer who were very kind and will look on this. They got the description and my picture.

But if I want to wait for another month to find that "perfect" phone, especially when they don't know when those phones will be available? Don't think so. I have waited one month for mine. So either they solve with Apple IF they see same thing some people here too saw it and decide to change it or I keep it.

But it this now doesn't bother Apple Sweden nor my retailer? It does. It just that they didn't got that many calls about this phenomenon. Yet...

The lack of calls indicate they are not members of MacRumors : )~

Wish you the best of luck getting it sorted out!

had the same issue, as checking to iFixit teardown you can see the inside. View attachment 1878407 View attachment 1878406 View attachment 1878405
Some people say it's due to the expansion of the glass and it's normal because iPhone 12 below has it, but what I think is it's not, because for iPhone 12 and below adhesive are present on that gap, while on the 13 Pro see for yourself the teardown picture that there's a deep hole underneath that gap and a small opening dust or any debris can really get inside an accumulate overtime which is really hard to get out, water though can get inside but not as 100% due to the rubber gasket covering the speaker end, i think it's the speaker grill itself missing the black border on top or just not fitted properly and the black adhesive tape, base on the iFixit picture see the black tape compare it to the others picture of the gap it's missing and some have it but the silver frame was present due to the grill was not completely fit to the border.

Well decided to give another stab. I picked up one today for the Sierra Blue 13 Pro max 1 TB and guess what? No gap in the speaker area. No matter what angle I try put my phone in lighting, I just can't see the metal shining (like the ones we are talking about).
