I just got a new battery for my 8 Plus. Should be good for another 2 years.
I don't know.I usually upgrade my iPhone every year, but I think I’m going to run my iPhone 13 Pro Max into the ground. I hate to use the f-word, but there are a few features that will make these models exceptionally nice and, in some cases, truly “future-proof.”
I think these Pro models are going to be really nice, well-rounded phones that have the potential to last a very long time. Next year’s periscope lens is really going to tempt me because it seems super useful, but I think I’ll be able to do without it. I’ve been waiting for a model worth holding on to and this seems to be it. Would be interested to hear you guys’ thoughts on this.
- Finally a 120hz display
- WiFi 6E, the X60 modem, and possibly even Bluetooth 5.2
- Huge batteries (relatively speaking)
Fair point, but then in being too worried about Battery Capacity degrading - you have actually artificially decreased it yourself. If you only use up to 75%, then that's even worse than those that are in the 80s......This is actually super easy for me and never involves waking up in the middle of the night. I sit at my desk most of the day and also charge my phone there. I just plug in the phone, go about my business, then eventually hear a little chime and stop the alarm and unplug the phone.
This argument is valid for literally every iPhone releases from the 6s onward.I usually upgrade my iPhone every year, but I think I’m going to run my iPhone 13 Pro Max into the ground. I hate to use the f-word, but there are a few features that will make these models exceptionally nice and, in some cases, truly “future-proof.”

Okay so I see what you mean but running out of juice is just never an issue for me. I’ve owned iPhones since the 4S and can’t remember a single time one of them has actually died on me. So if I don’t really get any tangible benefit from charging higher than 75, I might as well keep the battery in great shape. It helps with resale value. Pretty common for people to put “[x]% BATTERY HEALTH” in the titles of iPhone listings these days.Fair point, but then in being too worried about Battery Capacity degrading - you have actually artificially decreased it yourself. The whole purpose of a tool is to use it to the max the way it is intended - not limiting use to keep it better. Just my two cents.
Limiting to 75% throughout the charge, then I guess I would be running out of juice in the evening much more often.
What you are talking about is sloppy third party coding. I have some apps like that on my iPhone as well. The CPU/GPU and the screen refresh rate is negligible for most people, as long as the app(s)/website(s) in question has been properly programmed.Yep. Case in point, Tapatalk just did it while scrolling.
No device is immune to lag issues because the processors use variable clock speeds depending on the load applied to them. If anything lag will continue to get worse because older ARM chips used a single core type, modern ones use two core types for high and low power tasks, and now there are chips like Snapdragon 888 that actually use three core types, with the load distributed based on performance algorithms and the CPU governor in use.
Notch will still be here in 2022…might just be a punch holeiPhone 14 in 2022 is going to be the game-changer since Apple will be eliminating the notchApple will be bringing the best of the best since competition is getting tough. Just look at the way smartphones are being dominating in China 🇨🇳
I suppose you are right. It seems that you are conflating refresh rate with “lag.” They are not the same thing, and are not inherently connected. Of course iPhones don’t “need“ it, but it would still be very noticeable and very nice. If iPhones “don’t lag“ (which is true), then 120hz will be even more beneficial as the phone can keep up with the high refresh rate.
Really? That has not been my experience at all. I have a launch day 12 Pro and my battery health is still at 100%. Crazy that some people have batteries that bad...As long as they don’t use the same crappy batteries they used in the 12 series. The fast wear on these is insane. There are some of us who are already close to the 80% mark (fortunately not me, I’m at 93%, but that’s still not great for a device not even a year old).

That's crazy...Yeah there are two threads about it around here.
That's crazy...
My XS was traded for a 12 purely because of 5G, maybe a little bit for better battery but it wasn’t actually that bad. Two years I used that phone, could’ve used it for longer and would’ve if I had to save the money.
I don’t see why any of the iPhone since iPhone 5 shouldn’t be used for three years or longer. My dad used his 5 for four years, I know someone who is still using is launch-day 6. Batteries can be replaced.
5G tech is evolving quickly. 12 will be EOL quicker than 13 and 14 will have the first 5G modem with upgradable firmware and will have the longest mileage as a result.
The carrier aggregation limitations of the X55 modem in the 12 series coupled with the inefficient design that runs hot will shorten the lifespan of these devices.
NiceBut I don’t assume you mean the phone will become unusable in the near future. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Keep the notch, punch hole, dose not bother me, just don’t give me this 👇🤦♂️🤮🤢Notch will still be here in 2022…might just be a punch hole
Apple probably wouldn’t name it 14 just at the risk of China not liking that number, superstitious and all.iPhone 14 in 2022 is going to be the game-changer since Apple will be eliminating the notchApple will be bringing the best of the best since competition is getting tough. Same goes for the number 13Apple probably wouldn’t name it 14 just at the risk of China not liking that number, superstitious and all.
Meh. I never obsess about that number. As long as I notice no significant loss of battery performance in real life day to day use, I don't care.As long as they don’t use the same crappy batteries they used in the 12 series.
