I'll go with the 15. The major redesigns take a year before the kinks are worked out in the next release.

Love my 13Pro.

I'm a little confused. Apple has never kept a previous gen phone but given it the name as the new premium phone. Yes the 8 was basically the same as the 6, 6s, 7, 7s, etc, but it featured the glass back and same processor as the X. The 5c was basically a 5 but with plastic. But it wasn't marketed as a 1-year old premium phone, it was marketed as the cheaper alternative to the 5s. The reason they did that was simple, as Apple supply chains struggles to make enough iPhone 5 cases with it being one model. Having two models (5 and 5s) would have been a major issue, so they introduced a different material and re-packaged the 5 as the 5c. So why would Apple basically call the iPhone 13 the iPhone 14? I think Apple will announce an iPhone 13s and iPhone 13s max with slightly better components, while also introducing 14 and max. I'm a huge fan of my 12 mini. I'd probably consider the regular phone if they found a way to make it lighter. They've done this with iPads and Macs where they are slightly heavier, but the bigger size distributes the weight in a way that it feels lighter than previous smaller ones

That saga started back with the third iPhone; 3Gs.
Well, to be completely accurate — it started with Apple putting '3' in the name of their second iPhone)
Then, after having an iPhone with the letter 'G' in its name they released an iPhone 4, which many people unsurprisingly referred to as "my iPhone 4G". It almost got better, but then they released iPhone 8(which really should've been a 7s) and an iPhone X simultaneously. I think they are on the right track now, having skipped over that whole Xr thing, but you never know with them...

But why wasn't the 13 a 12s? The 13 is more similar to the 12 than the 14 will be to the 13, with just the notches design alone. And btw there was never a 7s...

My spouse has the 11 and her battery is the big problem, she has to charge it at least once, maybe twice during the day. We could replace the battery, but we're going to get the 14 Pro for her since the camera is so much better (I can say that since even if it was equivalent to the 13 Pro it would be better) vs the 11.
I’m exactly in the same situation. My 13 PM was the first iPhone for me, but I’ve always been a battery fanatic - charge to 80% never run below 30% So battery health is 100% (same charging routine for watch) My wife’s 6 and 11 batts were shot after two years. She leaves it on the charger, then runs it down to 20%. Just can’t train her! 😅

I don’t understand why we’re not getting Touch ID still. Is is Apple incompetence or being too lazy to put it back on the phone.

I upgraded my 6s to 12 pro and got so disappointed in it that I returned the 12 pro and wen't back to 6s and it was just fine after few weeks of 12 pro use :O

If the technology "advance" is that small from 6s to 12 pro, my answer to the title question is "upgrade only if your ego cannot cope without". iPhones have been too good from 6s upwards that there is no point upgrading to any if your phone doesn't actually die (battery replacement is 1000x wiser).

Won't be getting a new iPhone until they give us usable battery life and get rid of that notch!

It’s only been two years, would you normally expect to upgrade so soon? There usually aren’t that many changes in such a short period of time.

I upgrade annually, but put myself on a 2 year upgrade cycle, and am moving back to upgrading annually next year. I want to upgrade my device this year and I have been saving all year for it. I know I can get a battery replacement, but I want a new device instead.

As a deaf person who regularly uses my iPhone for signing on video calls, I’m concerned that the move from fixed focus to autofocus on the front camera will lead to ‘focus hunting’ or rapid shifts in focus as it struggles to keep up with my hands moving around and back and forth.

Do you think this is likely to be a problem?

Maybe Apple’s AI tech will use face recognition and fix focus on the face and be capable of ignoring hand movement?

We really don’t know anything until the 7th of September so far just rumors. I may go from the 13 Pro to the 14 Pro Max to get the bigger screen size.

my actual X will be upgraded by the next iPhone to have USB-C, mini form to fit in my pocket and no notch.
So maybe 15 then?

You bring up a very pertinent use case. I'm assuming that you use a stand for the phone? If not, this is a start. I've played around with settings on my 13PM and found a happy balance (for a different but similar use case.)

Hope that you will report back when you give it a try. Hopefully you are near an Apple Store so you can give it whirl before buying.

I am tempted to sell my iPhone 13 Pro Max and buy a 13 mini. I getting tired of carrying this large phone around. It used to be nice to have a big screen in the car, but now I have CarPlay, so I don't even need it there.

I did exactly that seven months ago and I have no regrets using the iPhone mini. It would be nice for them to continue the Mini, possibly a pro mini.

There isn't going to be a notch, but its replacement will certainly be polarizing. As for battery life, it's going to be improved, supposedly.
