look at all the product engineers, as far as optimising profit, the announced product is perfect.

Offset some of the chip surplus you have because you ordered in bulk to get priority allocation in the supply constrained world of 2021.

Get some mileage out off the old screen manufacture by passing down the 13 pro screen to the 14 lineup.

Ramp up production for the rest

You reckon the vanilla 14/Max will have ProMotion?

Given our knowledge of some of the announced "upgrade" triggers. (Referring to consumer psychology and the current conditioning from apple)

The 14pro/ max will have the new screen design and bigger sensors/lenses? to hoot. Good !

What remains for the 14 ? Given the alleged absence of a silicon spec bump.

And given that apple has mastered the rationing of those upgrade triggers to dilute the difference between year models.
And knowing how "weak" the mainstream update trigger was for the 12-13 cycle.

ProMotion across the range would only be charitable. The next generation Air may also get it, given that the next generation iPad pros will get Magsafe and won't have to compete with the Air on the sole merit merit of it's display(Taking about the 11', the 12'9 inch has the monopoly on screen size to boast).

But you'll hardly see objective analysis on these kind of threads, people often projecting their own purchasing pattern in conjunction with subjective needs.

And in the end, unless you're on the ground in the manufacturing plant or somewhere inside of the design pipeline, it's all smoke and mirrors.

I've never been less excited about an iPhone 5 months out that I am now. The pill/hole punch combo is an absolute eye sore. Apple should have just made the combo an elongated pill instead out two different things. Also, the camera housing is starting to get too damn big, IMO. They need to take a page out of Samsung and Google's playbook and try something different from the 3 burner stove approach that is currently in it's 3rd iteration. Apple seems stuck in cycle on un-innovative regurgitation (see iPhone SE) and the future (some companies are already there with foldable). Apple's staleness has a way of making techies like wanting itch my Android fetish.
I mean that's why they're making multiple phones with the redesign and keeping iPhone 13/13 style notches on the entry 14 series. You don't have to buy the new phone every year if you don't like it.

We do? Have you checked your notes on how long the iPhone 6 design aesthetic stuck around?

Exactly my point. We had the 6/6s/7/8/SE2/SE3 and now we are looking at 12/13/14 all being the same. It’s getting old. Real old real quick.

I thought that was part of being in the Apple family.

And their point (correct me if I’m wrong) is that this is a pattern. If you don’t like it that’s fine, but if you expect Apple to suddenly change design philosophy at this point you aren’t living in the real world - Apple rarely changes their designs and it’s been like this for decades.

My iPhone 14 concern is not even related to having a notch or pill... It's the damn fact that rumors are saying that only the Pro models will have a processor upgrade. I would feel kicked in the nuts buying an iPhone 14 that sports the very same processor from iPhone 13... Am I paying just for a camera upgrade?

You aren’t paying for anything, the phone hasn’t been announced much less released? Posts like this are so weird, y’all act like Apple has a gun to your head and is forcing you to buy the phone. If you don’t like the phone they release don’t buy it - it’s really that easy. You complain endlessly about how the phones are the same every year and buy them anyways. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, for better or worse this is how consumer capitalism works right now.

And as a consumer I don't have to like and I do have a right to complain. Guys like you who run to defend Apple crack me up. You're right they are going to do what they are going to do and will be fine without you standing up for them.

I simply acknowledged we all have different design preferences but also stated I don't get people who place so much emphasis on design details that they become more important than function.
The bolded part is a very dumb and arrogant thing to say. First you "acknowledge" we all have different design preferences then you say you don't "get" people who take so much interest in design. What...? Also, no one is even discussing the "design details" as more important than the function (not even the OP), so why are you stirring up nonsense? Some people just really care about certain things, clearly you don't understand that but instead automatically assume it's an attack on your beloved company.

Everything you've said can be summarized in one line: "Well if it works, who cares about how it looks."

I think Apple is preparing for the subscription based service. Unless you pay for subscription, your phone won’t be upgraded much.

What's with the personal insults and combativeness? I didn't come in here and personally attack you or anyone else for their design preferences. You are the one trying to stir things up, but I'm not going to take the bait.

You're also straw-manning my post. I'm merely saying that I understand our design preferences differ and of course there's room to debate it, but I think it's imbalanced to place design over function. In other words, I would never consider switching from the Apple "ecosystem" to Android just because I'm not ecstatic about how the new iPhone looks. Apparently some people would do so. That doesn't mean I think "who cares" about how it looks - it means I think "Yeah, I'm not thrilled about the look, but in the big picture it's not really THAT big of a deal".

I'm most certainly not an Apple fanboy. In fact, I just came from another thread where I criticized them for taking so long to fix a simple Finder bug (which they still haven't fixed). I've criticized them for other things too. So I'd suggest you stop reading into posts and personally attacking people for their opinions. Maybe ask for clarification or just post a calm rebuttal instead of getting all hyped up about it.

You're whining about a phone that's NOT EVEN RELEASED.

Oh wait... you want this... (hands OP an Attention Cookie, pats on head)

Bye now.

speaks to overarching lack of vision. They're hyper-optimizing small aspects of the design no one cares about anymore and somehow they went from having products that hit all my checkboxes a few years ago, to products that hit few or none of my checkboxes. I realize I'm a luddite but I'm sure I'm not the only one.

(just give me an iPhone whatever mini with telephoto instead of superwide and a home button. ffs is that so hard?)

Complain to the zero-bezel zealots. That nonsense drove the notch and pill.
aka braindead morons. both ipad and iPhone have been getting more annoying to use over time as bezels shrink. God forbid you have a place to rest your thumb!

but as long as mainstream tech YouTubers (vermin) keep hyping up the bugman consumer base that's the type of crap companies will keep pumping out

What’s interesting about the pill shape is that it seems to go lower than the notch. That means that either the status bar will be taller as well, leaving less height for the app content, or else the pill shape will at least partially go below the status bar. I don’t see how either would be a good thing.

Yeah you have a right to complain, I guess I just don’t understand why you would waste your energy complaining on a tech forum but hey whatever makes you happy.
