So that justifies personal attacks and comments that are far more juvenile than anything the OP said?

Of course not. I'm just pointing out that there's not a "catch 22" when it comes to "complaining" about complaining. Simply saying "I don't understand why people are complaining" or "You shouldn't be complaining" doesn't mean you're doing the same thing as the people complaining. But I see people claim that all the time - instead of justifying their complaints, they'll accuse the other person of hypocrisy (which even if it were true would be a logical fallacy).

Sure, but if your general gripe is with complaining/whining, then it doesn’t make much sense to start behaving the same way yourself. I would expect someone who doesn’t like complaining to not also be as whiny as the person they’re decrying (or more so). Let’s face it: this isn’t about complaining, it’s about becoming frustrated and upset when someone disses a product you’re interested in.

I slapped back at OP because it's juvenile and tiresome to complain about the features of an unreleased product and especially to title a thread "All the wrong moves" as if Apple are a bunch of idiots and would succeed if only they'd listen to the OP.

Once a product is released? By all means, criticize something you feel misses the mark. For example, look at all the whining about the supposed use of an older SOC in the 14 normal phones. IF it's really just the same as the 13 then that's a legit criticism. But if it's not and everything gets some version of the A16, how many of the people here venting about this will admit they were in error?

And... how empty does someone's time have to be in order to start a thread on the faults of a product that does not yet exist? What's the motivation?

It might not be the most popular opinion, but in said opinion of mine: it‘s been all downhill in terms of design since the ip11 launched. Yes the devices are faster, last longer and have better cameras, and some trade-offs had to be made - but they look and feel so much worse.

I was being hypothetical. The demands of iOS appear to have slowed down due to the hardware far outreaching the software. On iOS 9, you could tell the difference between it running on a new 6S a 6 and the 5S. As current SOCs are overpowered, the difference between the 13, 12 and 11 are imperceptible.

This means that the newer chips should hypothetically be supported for longer than 6 years.
The iPhone 5S, which was released in 2013, got its last security update (iOS 12.5.5) in September 2021, a full 8 years after launch. Given that the 5S got 5 years of major iOS updates and the 6S is already at 6 years, it's a good bet that current iPhones will see a decade or so of official software support (at least 6 years of major updates plus 2-3 more years of security patches).

I see this comeback all the time, but it doesn't really make much sense. It's the nature of the complaint that matters. For example, if students in a class are all whining and complaining about their assignments and the teacher tells them to stop whining and complaining, does that mean the teacher is a hypocrite and "whining and complaining" about the whining and complaining? No, because his complaint is about the attitudes of negativity whereas the students' complaints are over legitimate work that shouldn't be complained about.

That being said, I have no problem with the OP complaining about tech on a tech forum. I'm not a fan of the "pill" design myself. The only criticism I had is the idea of switching from Apple to Android merely over the aesthetics of the iPhone.
This was about who is wasting their time, not about the legitimacy of the complaints. Th poster was wondering why the other person is wasting their time complaining, while themselves wasting their time complaining.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is true. Of course people are going to feel justified in defending a product they’ve either already purchased or are interested in doing so.

Couldn’t disagree more. I think the 13 Pro feels fantastic and I wouldn’t trade it for any designs of the past given the same internals.

I thought that was part of being in the Apple family.
I’m rocking an iPhone XR from all the way back in *gasp* 2018. Being in the Apple family doesn’t mean mindlessly upgrading every single year to the next iPhone released. I’m sure some do that, for whatever reason, but plenty of Apple boosters keep our iPhones for longer than a year.

Actually, they said waste "energy" not time. And again, the nature of the two "complaints" is not the same.

Still kicking an original SE, apart from an aging battery it still feels like a thoroughly modern device! Based on other threads I know there’s quite a few of us here on 5+ year old iPhones.

Im Getting it because of the Camera, Great OS, Battery life, Processor Speed and Photo Software.
The Pill Hole is way down on my List of Thoughts along with what color to get. For me I'm to Lazy to
drag my Nikon D850 around in Humidity so my Phone is my Camera Unless i Need a Poster size print.
Colors need to be a Bit more Intense IMO . Aloha from North Thailand

An alternative way of looking at it is that apple is basically going to offer last years pro model (13pro) as a 14. Ie a 300$ discount for last years model. Apple historically offers the previous years model (of the normal range) for a 100$ discount.

Mostly, although I doubt the iPhone 14 will have promotion and a telephoto lens. I hope there will be discounts on the actual iPhone 13 Pro come September as I think i’ll be getting that based on the rumours I have seen.

If the vanilla 14 doesn't have ProMotion, what's the point upgrading? You're better off buying a 11/12/13 Pro Max if you just want a bigger iPhone without paying the premium.

I would consider skipping this update for another year if the battery on my iPhone 12 wasn’t as poor as it has become. The 14 by the rumours we’ve seen seems quite a minimal upgrade and I think if they release it at £700-900 like previous years, the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is definitely a more attractive consideration for those upgrading from 11’s and 12’s. Apple could surprise us this year with the cost of everything going up and add an increase to the new iPhones. That would further make last years devices more attractive to some looking for extra features.

I think there is a growing contingent of users who recognize that we have reached a point at which the iPhone is a mature product category and that anticipating some sort of amazing annual innovation is simply a futile exercise at this point. Apple’s SoC has gotten so far ahead of iOS, that I personally am just waiting to see where that line is drawn for me…where the experience becomes too slow, which is different for everyone. My wife would be the benefactor of the Pro’s cameras, I cannot take great photos, but she has that natural artistic eye. I would be fine with the 14 Max. I’m not that concerned with getting the A15 SoC, although it seems to be a big deal with some. My point is that it might be time for some users to reevaluate what pursuing annual upgrades on their iPhone is really getting them in return. Not a judgment, just a thought.

I think the notch is fine especially since it's gotten smaller. the new design is just silly. I mean just make it one big pill shape instead of two different things.

Yep, and also move it higher up on the screen where it belongs!

Good point, I would wait until it is cheap enough for Apple to put 120MHZ on the base models but that might not happen for a few years knowing Apple and how they do business.

If you have something to say about someone specific (me or other), man the F up and say it. This passive aggressive posting is kiddie stuff.
