I was on 100% a few weeks ago and I am now down to 95% on my launch day 14 pro max. iOS 17 beta has been brutal. I am not sure if that is the reason but that’s when my battery health started dropping

I don’t own an iPhone 14 Pro, do have an iPhone 11 Pro Max at 82% but I wanted to say that it’s interesting before this forum post; through out the year I was picking up that the iPhone 14 Pro was having battery longevity issues. I honestly think this is a real issue. I wouldn’t be happy purchasing one of these units.. Really hope Apple releases a 5000mah battery and catches up with the other phone makers. Or even better one of those newer higher density 5200mah batteries being released in the Chinese sphere. Is this simply a case of Apple cheaping out?

I am hoping it’s down to the iOS 17 beta as a lot of people that have seen a drop in their battery health do seem to be running ios17 at the moment. 🙈

Launch day 14 PM. Charge every night irrespective of current charge level using an Anker USB C 60 watt charger and Anker USB-C to lightning cable. Running iOS 17.

iOS Settings app capacity shows 98% max capacity.

Coconut is showing:
Design capacity: 98.9%

Cycles: 198
Battery manufacturer: Desay
Battery manufacturing date: August 1st 2022

Unrelated but my launch day M1 Max MBP is almost at 80% capacity. Yikes! It still lasts significantly longer than my old Intel but I guess this is the result of keeping it on the charger for most of the day.

i feel like people are expecting their battery health to go up over time.. why don't you guys just buy a new phone every 6 months if it's such a big deal

For some of us it’s a science - trying to understand what we might do to extend the life of the battery - especially if we cannot afford or justify a new phone every year.

Some people here are experienced enough in the iPhone lineup to be able to compare their battery life year on year against different models. The serial upgraders can certainly find an issue in general with the battery health compared to all the other models they have had.

For example my iPhone 13 Pro Max had 100% battery health when I exchanged it for the 14 Pro Max last year and year on year if I compare it does seem like the 14 series does have some problems. Everyone should not see the same drop if we look at it objectively but that is not the case here.

On that note actually, has anyone contacted Apple to get their device checked? What are they saying? I am thinking of contacting them since my last percentage drop happened at around the 10th day mark.

iPhone 14 Pro Max bought on 15th September 2022. Currently at 89%. It was 91% last week.
88% now. Something is definitely wrong with this phone/battery.

Charges via wire from my Mac during the day but not plugged in all the time. Charges overnight on an Apple MagSafe charging puck. Never had a battery drop this fast before.

day 1 14 pro and I’m at 90%. easily the worst battery health i’ve had on an iphone although I still think it’s a stronger overall battery than previous ones.

Here we go again. Launch day Max was at 100% until the other day, but I’d noticed that the battery was starting to drop more quickly. Lo and behold, one day I wake up at its 99%, and it’s just dropped again to 97% 🙄

my crystal ball predictor is that is with battery life around 90-92% left will be around 87-88% left on our 14PM MAX at launch day. I think what it comes down to is that a select group of phones received higher quality yield batteries (those still around 98-100%) after a year but the majority if people received “in spec” batteries that have degraded faster than previous generations of phones. Now just because they have degraded faster doesn’t mean they are faulty and our batteries are trending to be around 80% or lower after 2 years. I believe it’s 500 cycles and 80% battery life remaining that is considered within spec from Apple.

What I really wanted to figure out through this thread was if there was a correlation with the make of battery (manufacturer) and how quickly our batteries have degraded. I still believe the Sunwoda has held up better than the Desay battery. This would be helpful information for when we go get a battery replacement (if we keep our phones longer than a year).

I am looking forward to seeing what capacity is released with the iPhone 15PM phone at the same time. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 14PM (although it’s heavy) and I think we all have batteries with spec but the quick degradation over the past few months is interesting.

Where are you checking the make of the battery?

I use coconutBattery to see mine.

https://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/

Plug in your phone to your Mac, go to the iOS Device button, then click on: "Battery Info"

It’s been some time since I’ve used coconut battery. Didn’t realise they show the make of the battery as well.
I’ll check and report. Thank you.

Ps. I’m not on beta and still seeing the drop.

Well, here is to hoping the 15 has some new battery tech. Would be nice not to have to worry about the battery.

After being at 92% for a couple of weeks, I’m now down to 91%. Guess my iPhone may soon have an “accident” so I can get an AC+ replacement (j/k)

Based on my observation skills (not expert by any means) there seems to be a big correlation between getting the beta and having the battery health % drop.
Not necessarily true. I was at 91% before the beta and have only dropped a percentage point over a month of beta use. In line with previous iOS use.

So there is no way I get the 15PM and then hold off on the 16PM. The 16 is going to have some serious camera upgrades and will be a slam dunk upgrade.
