I got my 15 Pro Max Christmas of 2023. It’s now at 88% Max battery capacity with 317 cycles. A month ago it was at 91%. That seems pretty terrible compared to every order iPhone I’ve ever had. My wife says who cares just buy the 17 when it comes out, but it bugs me because I’ve used the 80% charging max and I’ve never wirelessly charged it. I think I’m going to try to calibrate it by running it down to dead and then charging it to 100%. Seems I have little to lose at this point.

Makes you wonder if it’s even worth using the 80% charge limit, this feature now has more charge limits to choose from. How low do you let the battery get before charging again?

Latest update:

Maximum Capacity: 88%
Cycle Count: 365
Manufactured August 2023
First Use September 2023

Maximum Capacity: 93%
Cycle Count: 269
Manufactured May 2024
First Use July 2024

Is this bad or good guys?

I charged to 80% & didn't let it deplete below 40%. I might change that strategy with the 17PM.

At home I use the

ESR for MagSafe Charger Stand (HaloLock), 3-in-1 for MagSafe Charging Station, Magnetic Wireless Charger

At work I used

Anker Nano 47W USB C Charger - 2 Port.

I've now resorted to just charging at home wirelessly & not doing mid day top ups.

I need to check my wife's 15PM that was purchased on Pre-Order day.

I honestly don't see there being an advantage in using the 80% max charge method.
In my thirteenth month my phone dropped from 97% health to 95%. Back when I used it, my 13 Pro went from 100% to 98% in the thirteenth month of ownership. The 13 Pro didn't have a charge limit.

So, yes, my experiment with using the charge limit (and using USB-A slow charging overnight) is over - I'm back to no limit, optimized charging, using USB-C power delivery. It seemingly makes no difference so I may as well just charge the phone.

Its a win of the battery lottery or one of the Phones which is bad at updating the %. I know one who had 100% after 315 cycles and then lost 6% in less than 2 weeks. I also saw an IPhone which went to 99% after 30 cycles but stayed then there for a very long time and is now maybe at 450 with a good 95% Health.
