So how is it playing the new Resident Evil Village? And regardless of how hot it gets which you can possibly ignore or avoid with a case, how is the performance/frame rate once it's hot?

Not great if it's like "hey, this phone is so good you can play RE:Village on it", but only for 10 mins before it throttles to unusability...

I’m on 17.1 and the 15PM gets quite warm after 15-20 minutes of continuous, not too demanding usage (mostly safari, slack, and messenger – I don’t play games).

I don't buy into "overheating" hysteria. 99% of the time people conflate "getting warm" to "overheating" because they don't understand that chips get warm when doing things and what sounds hot to a human isn't hot to a computer chip.

If it's truly overheating, the screen will dim, the device will stutter, and eventually shut off. That's overheating.
Getting warm just with "standard apps". Can you imagine how hoy would iPhone be playing AAA games?
Titanium worsen the problem though.
In my opinion, I think Apple should have taken advance of 3nm in order to reduce consumption and heat, not raw power.

This phone lineup sounds like a bit of a dud, to be honest. One to be skipped.

When there's a silly design that's more about showing off than utility, and the phone's new and useful features just aren't that new or useful, you have to wonder what's happening at Apple. There just seems to be a lot of treading water nowadays. Little progress is being made in key product lines.

But didn't they already pinned down much of the issue with Instagram and the related Threads app and the way they work? I believe Meta is well-aware of this and should push out updates to both apps to correct this issue.
Meta has probably done this on purpose!

Got my 15PM on launch day, setting it up seemed cooler than any of my previous phones. I did get it a bit warm when I was on FaceTime and watching YouTube at the same time. It also gets a bit warm when outside but that’s expected. Otherwise it’s cool as usual. Absolutely love it so far and the battery for me has been phenomenal. I have never ever had a phone that didn’t need any charging during the day.

I will add, my phone is 1TB and I am using 420GB of space. That all happened during setup, when the phone automatically downloaded my entire 30K song library from Apple Music. Still didn’t overheat any worse than anything else I’ve owned.
Do you have Instagram on your phone?

I continue to have no heat issues with my 1TB 15 Pro Max…my 1TB 14 Pro Max ran hotter in general. Unlike what I’ve been doing with new iPhones in the last 10 years or so, I did *not* restore this new 15 from a backup of the previous phone, just used iCloud to transfer passwords etc. I also have no apps from Meta installed.
There's your answer then,
No Meta....No Problem!

It's all those photos of your "friend" wearing a gimp mask causing the problem. The neural engine is doing its best to identify your pets and going into meltdown.

My phone is only getting hot and draining the battery during phone calls, too. However, I just tried a suggestion from another forum user and reset all my network settings followed by a restart. After a 1 hour test call, my phone stayed a lot cooler and the battery only dropped 6-7%.

Previously, my phone dropped 23% on a 35 minute call.

I'm hoping this has solved the bug, I do recommend anyone else experiencing the "hot call" issue to try this.
I will try that, but I set my phone up as new. There's not even a photo on it, so it can't be indexing. Otherwise, I really love the speed and overall phone from the 13 Pro Max. That was easy enough to sell for $700, but that also means I'm paying a $800 premium as the new phone was $1500.

I believe Apple will respond, but also believe they will just reduce the performance. But, here's to hoping there is some magical optimization setting in iOS 17 they missed.

Minor correction on the SR71… it didn’t go Mach 5. 3.3 was the max.

Now, my 15p does indeed get hotter than my 14p when doing certain tasks, mainly charging and playing Asphalt 9. Still monitoring battery drain during calls but it’s not conclusive yet. I keep all these 5G phones restricted to LTE mode as 5G is mostly a joke and when the previous phones kept switching from a weak 5G to weak LTE I figured it made no sense to have the phone constantly searching for a crappy 5G connection. For some reason Apple still doesn’t write good software for these modems in that regard.
5G on c-band (band 77) on Verizon works fine. I get 350 mbs download in NYC. You should change your location or your carrier and not blame 5G.

yeah it gets hotter than the 14 pro which was hotter than the 13 pro at times.

They are going the wrong direction here with the processor efficiency that is for sure

I definitively have an issue with overheating on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's apparent when using the cameras. Gets warm when using Facetime, and the hottest is when filming a video, I realize that at 1m30 mark it gets pretty hot. Did same tests with my iPhone 13 Pro, and it doesn't get as hot. I don't think is every Iphone 15 Pro out there , but some are faulty.

Based on benchmarks, it's almost like they slapped an M2 chip inside a light titanium rectangle and called it an A17 Pro. They've overclocked the chip so it peaks at 14W of power. The A15 and A16's were between and 11W. To make matters worst, the GPU is running at 11.5W compared to 8W on the A15 and A16. The low yields on the 3nm forced them to lower their efficiency standards and over volt their standards.

Personally, I'd rather have less CPU/GPU power and more efficient battery life and heat management.

I upgraded to a 15 Pro from a 12 Pro and I can say it's definitely getting way hotter than the 12 Pro did. It's not even really when charging, I've only briefly plugged it in. It's moreso when I'm using like Instagram or playing a game. The sides get super hot. I'm also caseless, so maybe my 12 Pro was the same, but I never realized because it's always had a case..

Wife is using her 15 Pro caseless and hasn't mentioned any overheating. She uses FB but does not use Instagram. She also hasn't tried out the cameras yet so perhaps too early to draw any conclusions.

Did you restore yours from a backup of a previous phone, or just set it up as new?
