If there's no mini I might start considering suffering with Android. :( At least they have foldables to moderate the area. When at home I use iPads (not to mention computers) so don't need a gigantoscreen on my phone, but it seems most folks are opting for one device to do it all.

I'm sure there are lots of people who want the iPhone Mini back but obviously those who cry for one are the vocal minority. Apple tried selling iPhone Mini but they decided to kill it off.

Most likely Apple saw the bigger picture (they do have the sales data to back it up) and realised that most people were buying the standard or pro models and that it wasn't worth continuing the Mini.

If 3 million people buy an iPhone Mini that is a lot of people but if there are 30 million people buying the standard/Pro then that would make the Mini the least popular and profitable model.

If you want a small iPhone get an SE or just deal with the normal sized phones like everyone else if you want more features/powerful hardware. Apple doesn't seem like it will be going back to making tiny phones outside the SE any time soon and even that looks like it will be going up to 6.1" lol.
If they updated the SE to the Mini design rather than the stone age 6-8-based design they use now it would be a fine alternative.

So many people want an iPhone Mini back. I’m not sure why Apple won’t release it.
Because Apple has the actual sales figures. And afair there have been reports about iPhone mini variants selling comparatively poor, making it not worth the effort for Apple.

So either the silent mass outside of a tech forum like MacRumors does not care or explicitly does not want an iPhone mini - or all the iPhone mini lovers don’t walk their talk.

If this rumour is true and the rumour of thinner bezels is also true then it's a real shame that Apple can't synchronise the two and do both this year. Slimming down the bezels could absorb a lot of that relatively modest screen size increase especially if the rounding up on the current rumour is reasonably aggressive so the actual size is in the lower part of the 6.85" to 6.89" range (for the Max/Ultra model which is the one I'm interested in). If that happened it would be a nice way to give current Pro/Pro-Max users something (slightly bigger screens) for almost nothing (probably pretty much imperceptible increase in overall height and width of the phone) or if the bevels are thinned down enough and the new screen size is something around 6.85" maybe no overall increase in height and width at all.

I would love to see the above happen since I'm currently OK with the current dimensions of my iPhone 14 Pro Max so what's not to like if Apple gives me a bigger screen within almost exactly the same height and width chassis as I currently have?

This is just like megapixels in phones. Bigger numbers are easier to comprehend and market even if the actual benefit has long since been marginalized. Usability and the human connection are out the window and beyond now. I've been in the apple eco system for a long time but I'm not afraid to leave it if it no longer serves my needs. The iPhone 14 Pro is just a bit too big and heavy for my taste. The perfect phone, to me, is a 5.6" (including bezels/edge) iPhone Pro. One that is a bit thinner and lighter even at the expense of battery life.

Because they tried and it didn't sell. People keep asking for a small size phone and it comes out, they don't buy it.
They also didn't produce the correct mini iPhone. They went with a budget model and misjudged the market that has been requesting a mini. Apple hasn't tried a mini pro. And if you look at the Plus it sells even less than the mini did. So clearly it isn't entirely about screen size/budget but also about features. And Apple has skimped on features for the mini.

I'm going to wait for the iPhone 25

To be fair, Apple did zero promotion for mini and every product, even Apple’s iPhones, need promotion. Even on the website there was no clear indication of mini. You’d have to really dig to get to it, so only those looking precisely for the mini actually got it. Apple did not really seem to be fairly promoting it as much as they promote the regular model.

I find the 5.8" of the iPhone X and XS to be the perfect size. It's sad we have crept past that on the none max versions.

6.3" for a none max pro model is just silly. Not everyone wants gargantuan phones but still want the best available specs. Surely Apple must know that?
They do, but they don't care.
The biggest problem is that they can't fit a periscope lens into a 6.1, which I suspect is the biggest reason for this.
Personally, I can do without the periscope lens, if it means the phone being smaller and lighter!

The biggest problem was the lack of pro materials & features as well as the battery 😏
It's easier to make larger things

If you are comparing it to the Pro models, yes, but the only thing you can hold against the mini vs regular is the battery and with 13 mini it greatly improved. They could have promoted and they would have sold more, in my opinion, of course.

It's not most people, its about 35% which is a minority 😏

And the iPhone 17 will have... and the iPhone 18 will have... What is it with starting rumors now more than a year before the model will even come out? MacRumors are you that hard up for stories/readers now? You're starting to look like the tabloids in the checkout line at the grocery store.

I know the battery improved on the 13 mini, the thing that stopped me buying it was the regular materials, I know you can't fit a third camera in it, but pro materials would have made it sell more, no one is likely to buy a phone with a battery inferior by 2 hours and only 0.7" smaller at least in my opinion.
I think the Mini could go up to 5.7" or even 5.8" make it a pro and it will sell like hot cakes, even without a periscope lens

I think the mini is Apple's real achievement in the past few years. They've been rather lazy until this phone came out. Indeed, a Pro mini would be amazing, but it would probably have to grow a little in size which defies its purpose. I think I would still buy that model though, provided there is no updated regular mini model in the future. I refuse to buy anything bigger than 5.8". I absolutely hate the 6" form factor. It's just not comfortable to use. As for the cameras, I have a proper full frame mirrorless, so I couldn't care less about periscope or anything else that would require a third lens in the phone.

A couple of keys. You mention "comparatively" which is correct. Any other phone manufacture would love to have a model that sold as well as the mini. Second is why it didn't sell comparatively as well and IMO it boils down to priorities.
- Prefer the smaller size, but battery life is a higher priority so got the regular sized iPhone
- Prefer the smaller size, but camera is a higher priority so got an iPhone Pro.
- Don't mind the smaller size, but for "only" $100 more get the bigger iPhone with bigger screen and much better battery life.
- I don't know how widespread this is, but happened to my Nephew's girlfriend - wanted a 13 mini, but the carrier offered her a free iPhone 14 vs her having to pay about $300 for the 13 mini.
- mini was just a little too mini for some. While I love my iPhone 13 mini 5.4", at times I feel (well it is) the screen is smaller than the previous 4.7" sizes because of the aspect ratio change. The screen is actually narrower due to the change.

But I don't know what the solution is. Probably not enough market to have multiple models (regular and pro). I thought maybe making it the SE or at least putting it on a 2/3 year refresh like the SE would make some sense. I don't think a pro model would do very well unless they could price it at the same price as the non-pro regular sized model. I'd buy it, but again priorities. I do know I'm going to be in a quandary my my 13 mini becomes "old" and there isn't a viable alternative.

If you want it wider, buy an iPad mini. A 6.9" iPhone is virtually the same height as an iPad mini 5 (7.9"):

No way! I don’t want to be dealing with a jelly scroll.
