Aren't we jumping the gun here? Larger display does not necessarily mean a bigger handset. Reducing the bezel size could also garner the same outcome.
The iPhone 15 Pro is rumored to have a 0.06" bezel. Since you can’t scrap 0.08" off that (half the width difference between the 6.7" and the 6.9"), the iPhone 16 Pro will be larger. The iPhone 14 Pro has about 0.125" bezels; they’d have to go down to roughly 0.045" to keep the same size as the 14, not sure if that is feasible.

Awesome! I think they are gonna change the aspect ratio to 19:9 from the current 19.5:9, to still keep the width same.
Isn’t that the wrong way around? If they increase the diagonal while keeping the width the same, the aspect ratio must become even narrower (about 20.2:9). Or did you mean keep the height the same? That would mean going way down to 16.8:9, which I don’t see happening either.

And all that fantastic front camera tech will go where? The under-screen tech is not quite ripe yet. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I think a retractable camera at the top would be neat, like some laptops used to have. :)

The original iPad mini's screen was only 1" bigger. I've got no issue with Apple making phones this big for those who want it, but even the standard iPhone I find too big and mini users or those who don't want a tablet as a phone are getting ignored.

probably 3 sizes
5.8,6.3,6.9
Apple was probably in a predicament because they felt that 5.4 is too small for pro, so they made it 5.8, and they found out that 5.8 and 6.1 is about the same so they raised 6.1 to 6.3, thus creating the space for 6.7 to move to 6.9

I don’t mind a bigger display but I wish they’d reduce the weight a bit. Everyone wanting a smaller phone but all I want is a phone made of aluminium like the iPhone 6. Steel and glass is too heavy.

Because they tried and it didn't sell. People keep asking for a small size phone and it comes out, they don't buy it.
Because the mini iPhone was the initial project of the Apple Watch imagined by Ive, a stand-alone Watch that was supposed to replace iPhones in sales, and that management and shareholders did not want, because it was more difficult to pluck chickens.
Apple Watch already has phone functions, iPad mini is better in everything than any iPhone, because it has a better form factor, reduces CarPlay to nothing that it is, thanks to how much Apple has ruined it, and makes any content more useable, and now it does not even clutter much more than this uselessness sold as a high-tech phone.
Who needs a huge iPhone if you have an Apple Watch that works as a phone and a tablet that is better in everything, with Pencil, mouse and keyboard compatibility? It only serves Apple to make money.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models launching in 2024 will feature around 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, respectively, according to oft-accurate display industry analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants.

iPhone-16-Mock-Header-1.jpg

Young informed MacRumors that the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes are rounded up. In response to our news story, Young said he will reveal the actual sizes to two decimal places during his speech at the Display Week conference in Los Angeles on May 23. Young did not indicate if the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also have larger displays.

The new display sizes would be the largest ever for the iPhone, as the device continues to get bigger. By comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are equipped with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively, and these sizes are not expected to change with the iPhone 15 Pro models launching later this year.

Young has a good track record with display-related information about future Apple products. In the past, he accurately revealed that ProMotion was coming to the iPhone 13 Pro and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, that the sixth-generation iPad mini would be equipped with a larger 8.3-inch display, and many other details.

Terrible from my point of view if true 😡

I want the very best camera available. I also want a light phone that I can hold in my hand and not break my thumb off trying to reach to tap. This is my struggle.

Not sure how I feel about this. I love the size of my 14PM, but I hate the idea that the smallest size is getting bigger and bigger with no alternatives. I want to have the option to get a smaller phone.

This is also disappointing considering the 15 Pro and Pro Max are supposedly keeping the same screen size, but having a slightly smaller body due to reduced bezels. You may think the slightly smaller size won’t be noticeable, but it was sure noticeable going from the 5.8” X/XS/11 Pro to the 6.1” 12/13/14 Pro despite Apple’s claims that the body only being very slightly larger and had about the same footprint as the 5.8” models.

Not only are this year’s rumors leading to an underwhelming, iterative device, but next year’s rumors are already pointing to the same underwhelming, iterative devices. No wonder iPhone 14 Pro Max sales were down Q1 2023.
IMO, sales were down in the Q1 this year, because people have realised how poorly optimised the camera software is and once you get past the new toys (Always on & Dynamic Island) it's not really better than the 13 Pro 😏

Still think 5.8" was the sweet spot.

This things are getting ridiculous now. Added to the fact that the camera bump keeps getting bigger.

Ultimately you end up with something that's just outright unwieldily .
