If everything is ultra thin, mega fast, super light..
than is anything really ultra thin, mega fast, super light?

Wouldn't that just be the normal?

It's like if a car manufacturer today bragged with.... our vehicles have power windows and door locks..

Yeah, I subscribe to 👏 each 👏 and 👏 every 👏 single 👏 word in there. 🍻
Even the words “under display” ?👎 Which are acting as an adjective to describe “camera” and should therefore be hyphenated, thusly: “under-display camera”. 👏 /s

For those who don’t get it, I am being pedantic because this thread is discussing the thickness of bezels on a phone, FFS. 🤦‍♂️

Whilst I’m a fan of the Dynamic Island…what is stopping under screen camera? Surely if the camera is being used in FaceTime or for every teenagers Insta-Poses, the camera area could be blacked out (not displaying anything)? Wouldn’t that fix the contrast issues that all other under screen cameras have?

It's called physics. Even if you turn off the pixels and make them all black, you still have all the screen material and electronics behind it that light needs to pass through to get to the lens. You can't change physics. There will be a huge amount of light loss, which will increase noise.

On top of that, you still have the pixel structure itself there. It would be like shooting through a screen door. Sure AI algos etc can help fix that, but it's definitely non-trivial and will need to infer details blocked by the pixel structure.

Im really looking forward to negative bezel iphones… where the display wraps around the sides onto the back… eventually the whole surface of iphone will be display… and just like usb c, it wont matter which way you orientate it, as it will automatically adjust the the side you are facing.

It will be finite but boundless 😀

Cheers. Like I said. I’m a fan of the D.I. Came from the 12 Pro to 15 Pro and I would rather, at this stage have the notch if I get to keep the Dynamic Island.

Uh oh. Apple's obsessing about bezel thinness like they were about the thinness of their MacBooks.
All the focus on thin bezels and their MacBooks got a notch. I wouldn’t be surprised if that same design language was part of the iPad roadmap but since Samsung did it on their tablets Apple turned face.
Getting back this this thread, I think they’re leaning towards the iPhone 20 to be their next evolution in design: no bezels, possibly under the screen camera, new cameras including back of phone design language, new UI.

Thanks Mr Gurman. I trust your analysis. 😂

It's hard enough to scroll while holding the phone with one hand. Unless you are very careful to keep the holding hand from pressing on the screen, the phone will ignore other touches. It takes me three or four attempts to answer a phone call. Could we have slightly thicker bezels, please?

I really hope that on the Max models they use any extra screen height to rejig the Home Screen very slightly, it really would be only a matter of a few pixels here and there, to repurpose that space at the bottom where the search icon is to instead be an extra row of regular user-definable icons.

It’s crazy (in my opinio) how much space at the bottom of the home page is dedicated to just the search access and the indicator showing which page of a multi-page Home Screen the user is on. With widgets now potentially taking up 8 icon slots for a big widget (probably more - a 4 x 2 icon-slot widget is the biggest I use), having an extra 4 icon slots just above the dock to quickly get to more of one’s frequently used apps without needing to flip to another Home Screen page or go into a folder would be really valuable to me.

For people who really want that single tap search on their Home Screen Apple could simply create a search icon that could be placed on that bottom row and surely there must be a more compact way of fitting in an indicator somewhere to show which page of your home screen you are on?
If they still won’t improve the Home Screen on a giant iPad, I wouldn’t hold your breath for this to happen to an iPhone.

This is my biggest concern as well. They really need to implement some sort of smart anti-accidental-touch technology to prevent mis-taps, especially in the corners during one-hand usage. With apps that have bottom tab bars, the palm of my hand constantly activates the tabs in the corners, just from normal usage. This has been happening to me since at least the 13 Pro, maybe even the 12 Pro. Now I feel like it’s only going to get worse.

Phones getting larger still and taller. This is depressing, iphones are big enough as it is. 6.3 for the "small" one is crazy
I agree, pal. And it is only getting worse with the iPhone 17. At last the regular 16 will stay at 6.1”, but all the iPhone in 2025 will start at 6.3”, and like you said, it’s crazy.

They should have prioritized finding a solution to eliminate the notch or dynamic island altogether, without compromising the quality of the front camera instead off this. The bezels are already fine.
Maybe we should have cars that levitate using anti-gravity. Sarc
I am sure Apple has been investigating what you suggest and the quality for the end-user is just not up to Apple's standards. Just because we want something to happen doesn't mean it is currently possible. The few Android companies that have done behind the screen cameras had serious quality issues.

I'm assuming the new SE will be the iPhone 14 with the notch at 6.1", that would work for me. It took me until last year to finally switch from the iPhone 7/8/SE size to the 14 and now they're getting even bigger again 🤔

Whew. I’ve been up every night worrying about iPhone bezels. Never have nor will I ever care about bezels. Fix the bugs.

They said this about the 15 Pro. You can’t even tell anymore how much thinner it is. Next step is simply no bezels at all.
