Not that deep. What matters is that it works as expected and is of quality. I don't see the point of upgrading. One thing, if they come out with the 16 lineup and certain features available on the 16 lineup will not be available or is limited for the past lineups. Then I will be ticked off. As of now, we will see come June 2024 at the WWDC.

On this new wonderscreen, is there any chance we can have lock screen notifications back at the top so that sleeve users can peak without unsheathing? This is so basic it’s almost impossible to contemplate that no one at Apple ever considered it before deliberately breaking something that was previously fine. No amount of hands will ever be enough for the facepalm 🤦‍♂️

Apple plans to maximize the display size on the upcoming iPhone 16 series by using a new ultra-thin bezel technology, claims a new report out of Korea.

iPhone-16-Pro-Sizes-Feature.jpg

According to Sisa Journal, Apple will use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to minimize the bezel at the bottom of the display. BRS achieves this by rolling up the internal copper wiring into a more compact package.

Apple reportedly plans to apply the borderless display technology to all four iPhone 16 models, which are due to be released in the second half of this year.

The company is said to have attempted to apply the technology to iPhones before, but previous attempts were curtailed due to heat issues. Apple's reinvigorated efforts to adopt BRS are reportedly due to recent improvements in heat dissipation technology.

Last year, Apple reduced the bezels on iPhone 15 Pro models using low-injection pressure over-molding, or LIPO, to shrink the display border size to 1.5 millimeters (versus around 2.2 millimeters on iPhone 14 models).

Besides that, Apple has not significantly tweaked iPhone screen sizes since the introduction of the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 12 models in 2020. However, that's set to change with the 2024 iPhone 16 lineup. The iPhone 16 Pro models will have notably larger display sizes than the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

According to multiple sources, the ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ and ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ Max will feature an increase in display size compared to the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ and ‌‌iPhone 15 Pro‌‌ Max. The ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ will reportedly have a 6.27-inch display (159.31 mm), while the ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ Max will feature a 6.85-inch (174.06 mm) screen, with Apple likely marketing the sizes as 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively.

With the increase in display size, the dimensions of the ‌iPhone‌'s body will also increase. The ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ and 16 Pro Max will be slightly taller than their predecessors, while also being somewhat wider. The larger form factor of the devices will give Apple more internal space for components. The ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ models could get larger, longer-lasting batteries for example.
We are not expecting size changes for the ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and these devices will be the same size as the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus. However, with the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 and ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 Plus in 2025, Apple is expected to also bring the larger 6.27- and 6.86-inch display sizes to its two standard ‌‌iPhone‌‌ models.

They should have prioritized finding a solution to eliminate the notch or dynamic island altogether, without compromising the quality of the front camera instead off this. The bezels are already fine.
I’d rather not have a front camera at all. Why is it ok to compromise the screen for the sake of a camera that’s rarely, if ever used?

PLEASE HEAR ME APPLE!!!! Give me a mini with pro features. Give me the three cameras, or ditch the ultrawide. Give me 120mhz adaptable refresh rate oled screen, downclock the cpu if needed for power savings. I never needed more power than the iphone 12 mini had. The iphone 13mini didn't feel any different to me. I don't need it for crazy gaming.

I’d argue that “compromise” is putting a very mediocre under display camera in there. I have a Galaxy Z Fold5 with UDC and while the tech is certainly being worked on, so far it’s pretty awful. I’d rather have a hole in my screen.
Hence why it's on a POS Samsung where no one knows the difference between quality and crap, and won't be on an iPhone until it's good enough to be.

Dear Apple, can you PLEASE fire everyone with a thinness fetish?

Thanks, iPhone user.
The iPhone 16 may be the last of the "thin" iPhones. The upcoming EU requirements for portable electronic devices to have user-replaceable batteries could result in a thicker iPhone to accommodate the replaceable battery pack.

That, or an iPhone without a battery.

MagSafe battery sold separately.

Different size Pros = new cases needed!

I winder what Apple will do given the failure that was finewoven... they can't go back to leather given the big publicity push they made away from it and they can't pretend that finewoven has been well received...
Quietly discontinued is my bet.

I forgot about that new EU requirement. The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro will definitely be thicker and possibly heavier than the 16 and 16 Pro.

I hadn't read about that legislation. That's brilliant news! A pity they don't seem to want to bring it to tablets and laptops too...

Nothing comes for free. Something has to give. Just because you don’t believe does not make it untrue.

It's called physics. Even if you turn off the pixels and make them all black, you still have all the screen material and electronics behind it that light needs to pass through to get to the lens. You can't change physics. There will be a huge amount of light loss, which will increase noise.

On top of that, you still have the pixel structure itself there. It would be like shooting through a screen door. Sure AI algos etc can help fix that, but it's definitely non-trivial and will need to infer details blocked by the pixel structure.

an image from a direct open window will always trump an image from an inferior window + image reconstruction. The latter is a lossy process
