an image from a direct open window will always trump an image from an inferior window + image reconstruction. The latter is a lossy process
you're looking at something as a tug of war between screen resolution/seamlessness vs camera quality, but I could see Apple crafting some kind of glass refraction system on that part of the screen to mask the hole without adding pixels. Alternatively, transparentOLED some time down the line could be key.

Either way, you're claiming facts/impossibility, but you're only correct when working within the bounds you're claiming. Only time will tell 🍻

Does anyone actually care about this type of change?

Is this really all this company is capable of anymore?

Cancelled car, Scuba Mask hardly anyone wants and "thinner bezels" (on something that already has thin bezels)

It's still going to be lossy. The only way is for Apple to improve camera tech to compensate for this degradation, effectively deciding whether the degraded end result is "good enough". It will never be as good as the best image the camera system can produce.

Lol it's like you don't want it to be for some odd reason... Even if there is a limitation there, the point is getting it to a negligible level of difference to a user. The point is you don't hold all the answers. "Full stop".

It is a fact that a camera behind a screen will always be worse than a camera not behind a screen. That's physics. Full stop.

For people who actually like bezels, the following thread may be of interest:

It's not about loving bezels, but bezels serving a purpose. Accidental touches are a big problem.

I forgot about that new EU requirement. The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro will definitely be thicker and possibly heavier than the 16 and 16 Pro.

Or perhaps Apple makes a very thin battery the size of the iPhone's back (with cutout for the square rear camera area) that attaches seamlessly to the back of the phone recessed inside the metal frame?

Phones getting larger still and taller. This is depressing, iphones are big enough as it is. 6.3 for the "small" one is crazy

I agree it's getting crazy, but as long as they find ways to lighten the overall weight, it should balance out. I was always a "smaller phone" guy because I prefer one-handed operation, but it's so jarring going from a larger screen to a smaller screen.

It will never be as good as the same camera system that is not hindered by a screen, no matter how clever the screen tech is. Never. Full stop.
Depends on eventual screen technology/ability to make that part of the screen integral to the lens. That's the whole point of this conversation. You are limited to what you know. Game over dude.

Just like phone camera systems will never beat mirrorless or DSLRs. You simply cannot defy physics, no matter how advanced the tech. You are indeed limited to what you know. 🤣🤣🤣

Personally I’d be satisfied if we didn’t get further than current iPhone 15 pro bezels and a hole punch.

Never been a fan of the notch and the Dynamic Island is still too big for my liking.

But unless Apple makes under display FaceID work reliably, we might be stuck with the Island for a while longer.

Silly me, I saw the headline and thought, “maybe this means Apple will keep the display sizes the same and we’ll finally see an iPhone generation that’s a little smaller than the previous.”

Nope, of course they’re making it bigger for no reason.

I’m over these huge phones.

I do.

I don't think so, but I'm getting what I need/want now (for the most part), so...

Cancelled car, Scuba Mask hardly anyone wants and "thinner bezels" (on something that already has thin bezels)
I'm OK with all of it. I'm not upgrading or anything now, but when I do it'll be a nice change as far as I'm concerned.

No need to reinvent the wheel; I'm fine with refinements on the products, given they are mature.

You should post what you wrote here on that thread. That thread is a collection of reasons why bezels serve a purpose. You wrote a very good point, and you should post it on that thread. Spread the bezel love! 😊
