Consider this the other 10%

Right, just like those who were 100% convinced there would be a front facing camera, matte finish, and removal of the chrome bezel, right? Oh yeah, those never happened. Wild speculation based off of no facts is ridiculous.

What....
People please dont waste bandwidth!
Havent we had enough iPhone rumors already... give it some space!!

No.

If they wanted to use the Tegra, they could have this generation. Why didn't they? 1) It's an unproven platform. 2) Its power consumption is higher than the cortex a8 sgx combo it seems to be using.

The only superiority a tegra chipset would have is for graphics functions, which the iphone does just dandy on. It wouldn't make a difference for most tasks (and there isn't even a tegra variation with a cortex a8 in it).

Currently, there are NO tegra phones out, despite the platform having been ready for them since at least Fall 08.

The next iphone will almost certainly utilize a custom SoC as they've been hiring people with that expertise.

1: They didn't because they didn't have to. It's how the technology business works. It's the same reason there was a 2 mega pixel camera, then a 3 and a 4, 5, 6.... Hardware is released in steps, one foot right after the other, never jumping. It's most profitable for the company.

2: Wait a year.

You are right, there is no phone with Tegra. So what do you say for the Zune HD? If successful, do you see a Zund HD based phone?

No, I don't. Microsoft's space is in entertainment integration (seen with the xbox 360 and Zune integration). WinMo phones are a very healthy business. A Zune HD phone would either be just another WinMo phone, or a specialized version of it that makes all other WinMo users feel slighted. They have no added value in pursuing a phone when their WinMo OS does so well.

I agree with you about Microsoft's business model. But it still doesn't change the fact that they are releasing a Zune HD with Tegra.

Note to moderators: If I wanted to post in this thread originally, i would have. This is not the same topic, as I was only referring to the Tegra platform for the next iPhone, not asking what others think about future design changes. Thank you for blowing out my thread.

Personally I'm positive you'll never see a hard keyboard in the iPhone, it'll just never happen as Apple wants to keep things looking and feeling clean as with everything else they design. So a hard keyboard will just make the phone more bulky and unattractive. Secondly, you'll see an upgraded camera for sure as they'll want to move along with the video. As for a front facing one, don't get your hopes up. It's hard enough to get a good quality connection with wifi on a mac or any computer for that matter when speaking of video chatting. Also on that note, just look at ichat's video quality - not that great. There are tons of issues with it, and it's really not likely that you're going to see any kind of attempt at video chat capabilities with a front facing camera; not for a long while at best. However, the contradictory argument to that claim is that Apple has applied for patents on facial recognition software capabilities in hopes that they can use the feature in their OS, though I'm sure a lot of you have seen that here on the site. This hints that they could be moving to apply it into the phone after they've got it up and running; maybe a couple generations from now. Lastly on that note, I don't think that they'll sacrifice the photo taking ability of the iPhone for the front facing camera (kinda hard to take pictures of anything but yourself with that) so I thought maybe they might implement a 2 way camera of some sort to keep the original aspect and have the front facing one as well. They'll probably have a small design change due to the quick design tweaks they had with the 3G, I'd say that they'll tweak it again in 2010 just to keep things fresh. Lastly, back to the keyboards, I'm also sure at least some of you know that Apple's patent filings have suggested that their touch screen will evolve into something more interactive so that the user feels different things when touching different buttons - so it'd be more like an ever changing hard keyboard more or less.

I am 99% confident that apple will NEVER make the iPhone have a hard keyboard. Apple is all about multi-touch.
As far as what I want to see, I want a true 16:9 display and OLED screen. If they did put a front facing camera, I would use it, but that it will not happen anytime soon due to cellular network issues. Who knows, maybe 4G networks will be able to handle it.

3G can handle video calls.. but video is a little stuttery. 3.5G/HSDPA is more than capable - I've used it before :)

Streaming HD video will be a doddle for 4G, assuming network operators don't do a half assed job of it like usual. What 4G really needs to fix are latency issues! Existing networks are pretty fast after the initial connection, it's just connecting that takes a long time.

actually they need to improve 3 big problem

. battery must not drain in 24 hour
. iphone not hot or warm when using up to 10 hour
. less heavy weight

if 3 of these could improve then the world will thanks

it's gonna be shaped like an anal probe, the next big thrill for all the fan bois :p

(I know it's a little bit of an older thread, but I have a theory).
The next revision of the iPhone will go to Verizon (hopefully). Verizon uses the internal antenna, unlike AT&T, which uses SIM cards. So the case will have to be redone anyway. :)

"Big problems"? (added "s")

Batteries drain based on usage. Some are defective, but most "drain" just fine. Batteries also get warm. If they get too hot, then maybe they're defective. But for the most part, iPhone batteries aren't defective.

Just how light do you want the iPhone to be?

The "big question" is are you really serious?

It is ridiculous to start speculating when the current isn't even shipping... I'd probably expect it to be geared towards games. HD OLED seems a no-brainer also. Better display w/ lower power.

I don't think it's ridiculous. I think it's normal for a product to come out and consumers to think how next will be improved. I'm sure apple somewhere has been doing the same.

Obvious change will be larger storage. Better GPS and better camera possibly with zoom would be my first guess.

Other than that not sure

A few things I'm looking forward too:

1. Aluminum case (back to old iPhone design?), thinner, lighter
2. Multicore processor Cortex A9, even faster than the 3GS!
3. HD recording and playback
4. Multitasking/background apps
5. Longer battery life (actually deliver this time, unlike the 3GS)

Most of what I want stems off the A9 (pretty much 3-5).

I'll keep it short, this is my wishlist (both hardware and software). And oh, before you start checking out this list, we both know it will never happen.

- 4G support (both WiMax and LTE, although I prefer LTE - and yes, I know LTE is rolling out later than WiMax)
- Better camera, flash, HD-quality etc.
- New battery (atom-type)
- New design (yes, it's lovely the current design but 'it' is gone)
- Better ways to customize, now too many restrictions
- Better WiFi chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- Better 3G chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- Better 2G chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- (O)LED screen
- Better GPS
- Front-camera (minimum of 3MP)
- Two speakers
- Hopefully HD Audio
- Hopefully HD Video
- Multitasking
- Flash player in Safari
- Please no bluetooth-restrictions
- Solar energy or something, hidden in design
- Better 3D graphics
- More space, there should be a model of 64GB and for sure if there's going to be HD-support
- It shouldn't have problems with water or falling at the ground
- More RAM and better processor
- Kinda something like categories, there are that many apps: I just got too many home screens
- Hiding applications
- Infrared
- Better resolution
- Biometric scan of finger
- An awesome software update (and also more styles, like the LG Arena can have - correct me if I'm wrong - multiple styles: like a 3D-box or just like a normal homescreen, that's awesome)

Thanks for reading and excuse me for any mistakes in my language.

EDIT: And yes, I'm bumping this topic because it's useless to create a new one.

there was a picture on here before the 3gs was announced of a concept with a squared design i thought that looked neat. Whatever happens I hope the next generation of the iPhone has better antennae

- 4G support (both WiMax and LTE, although I prefer LTE - and yes, I know LTE is rolling out later than WiMax)This is a big one, I think they need to put a WiMax and LTE chip in even if the technology isnt roled out yet. That way when it does role out they can include a software update. That device is going to have allot of radio's in it now though! Idk how you can fit a Tri-band UMTS radio, Quad Band GSM radio, as well as a WiMax and LTE radio in. Also they should update to a quad band UMTS radio as it now only supports 850/1900/2100MHz and many European carriers are starting to offer 3G services using UMTS on 900Mhz widespread. Or possibly a quint band UMTS radio as some carriers (Notably T-Mobile) in North America use the AWS (spelling?) system which uses 1700/2100. But hey that's already pushing it.

- It shouldn't have problems with water or falling at the groundexplain. Do you want it to be water proof? That's a pretty bold request there...
- More RAM and better processor
- Kinda something like categories, there are that many apps: I just got too many home screens
- Hiding applications
- InfraredInfrared is a dying technology when it comes to transfering data over short distances, bluetooth was its replacement in many categories. For example the sony PSP implimented Infrared on there system and got rid of it with there latest update. I could see it being useful but Idk where its going to be next year.
- Better resolution
- Biometric scan of fingerI think this would be pretty hard for apple to impliment, but I hope they surprise me

I included what I think in the bold.

Verizon Logo
LTE Data Network
AMOLED 16:9 (what about existing SDK? Can Apps scale?)
720P video camera
New battery tech

I believe this time apple will focus purely on battery life and over heating issues... cos thats the only weak point as of now.. which needs real attention.

Have you taken your meds today????? if you think thats going to happen i have some stuff that id like to sell to you

Don't expect a 1-year miracle. That's all I have to say. It will change, but it won't be drastic.

Think of it like the iPod refreshes. They have been refreshed about once a year for many years now. Each time, it improves and there are reasonable changes. The iPhone is establishing itself as one of Apple's core products and I expect the same from it as all of Apple's other products. The huge revolution was the introduction of the iPhone. Now it's revisions, little by little.

how about changing a carrier that will actually allow me to make calls!

how about changing a battery that will actually last more then 5 minutes!

don't care about anything else, really.
