I wonder if anybody ever got caught by AT&T for tethering and paid a penalty.

Is their any way they ( or O2 ) can find out wether or not you have been tethering ? Would it be indicated by the mb usage, and if it's high will they ' automatically' charge you if you didn't already pay up-front ?

Question

What does it exactly change, i mean do i have to worry about it changing my baseline ? What i am asking is it should be no issue to restore back to the 3.0 GM

Doesn't touch your baseline, it's just a carrier update hack. You can even remove it later.

Have these people mentioned (or anyone else) coming out with a mms carrier hack??

Does visual voice mail still work if you download the tethering profile?

I read in another post that visual voice mail stopped working for someone who installed it.

is this safe to do? i've just done it.... so there's probably no point asking anymore, but just wanted to anyway....

Not that I know of, since they got rid of the fair usage limit, it's just if your stupidly going over, I used to use another phone to tether for internet, did a couple hundred meg and never got charged. Switched to a normal contract (Rather than a iPhone one) just said that I don't use a iPhone to customer services and they gave me an extra 500 texts but got rid of free wifi, kept the free unlimited internet though. As it goes through the phone it should be ok, especially as you can obviously tell all the downloading is optimized for iPhone because all the pictures are poor quality when tethering.

I've tethered via PDAnet for nearly 6 or 7 months, stream my Slingbox to a laptop prior to the mobile app. I watch so I don't go over my 5 gig "softcap" as they say, never had a single charge or been questioned as to my usage.

5 gigs is nearly 15 to 20 hours of streaming based streaming approx 500kbps give or take.

For web browsing, watching some online video's etc... you have to stupid to to blow 5gigs and not know it. If your tethering your iPhone the battery will die pretty fast 2 or 3 hours max from my experience, so it's not like your able to DL huge files overnite and rack up that much data.

If you use it with half a brain and monitor your usage, which AT&T even has a mobile app you can check it right on your phone very easy, this is a simple deal to run.

If/when they decide to offer us tethering, if it's 70/month I'll just keep using PDAnet as I'm already doing it and it works great.

It says internet tethering on my iphone but when i try loading pages on my laptop, its not working. help?

no way does AT&T not find out about this and somehow shut it down... they won't even let you pay $30-40/month for the privilege yet; they're damn-sure not going to let you do it for free.

I have 3.0GM with no hacks or anything done to my OS. My friend posted this on twitter today and I tried it and it worked for me. For those who have 3.0 use this link and it enables it in your settings. You must open the link on your iPhone using Safari. I have a unibody 13" macbook and it paired. If this was posted before sorry.

how do you install the US file?

Will this continue to work after the official 3.0 release tomorrow?

everyone with 3.0 GM is the official release.

And in general if you keep tethering to a minimal, ie don't use it for prolonged periods of time there's no real way for AT&T to know if your browsing on your iPhone or a computer.

when i try to connect my iphone to my macbook, growl tells me my iphone connects for about 1 second, and then disconnects.

edit: forgot to mention over bluetooth
