I can confirm that this does not work on a iPhone 2G with 3.0 GM.
I'll try it on a couple 3G's later tonight or tomorrow. ;)

Hmmm, for some reason, tethering does not work via Bluetooth. I am paired up with my computer, but it will refuse to connect to the iPhone. The option is "greyed" out when I select my iPhone, it will not connect via Bluetooth.

However, via USB, it works perfectly

Can anyone confirm that these settings don't charge you for web use on O2 contract. Been checking the O2 website to see if anything shows up on my bill, but their sites down for maintenance.

EDIT. At the people above. I was having the same problem. It paired fine but wouldn't stay connected. Pair your phone up with your Mac. Then once thats done clink on Connect to network on your Mac. Thats what worked for me.

um perhaps im missing something but my 3.0GM on my iphone has tethering by default. I'm US AT&T and haven't changed a single setting on the device network related, nor have i uploaded any hacked .ipcc files. No MMS though...

I call BS. Unless you have the 3gS you cannot have the battery % showing. It doesnt work with the 3g.

If he has had his phone jailbroken in the past, that would explain it.

I find it interesting that we've always thought jailbreaking could be cleanly erased by a restore with new firmware, yet 3.0 clearly differentiates between phones that have and haven't been previously jailbroken. Probably not a good sign.

im fairly sure the % is a 3.0 feature, not a 3gs

No. It's exclusive to the 3G S.

But he's also wrong, as I have a friend who had previously jailbroken his phone who now has the same battery display as is seen in the screen grabs above. With the percentage to the left of the battery icon.

Screenshots or wait for it.....wait for it......wait for it...... IT DIDNT HAPPEN.

So been trying to confirm that changing the data settings on a pay monthly iPhone on O2 using this trick doesn't charge you.
Can't find any info.

Can anyone confirm that using this method to change the data settings doesn't charge you for surfing the web on your iPhone?

What does it matter? It's not like it's some extraordinary feature. I was just pointing out that clearly jail-breaking leaves something behind that is causing these phones to act differently after being cleanly restored.

It works! It works! It works!

I've even started downloading a Snow Leopard torrent! And it works!:eek::eek:

Worked for me! Connected to my new 15" MBP over bluetooth with no problems! Thanks for the info. Now we just need a way to get us some MMS on AT&T.
