got it to work....

change to family text/messaging plan and than tossed my sim into another phone to test out it worked there and than back into ipohne and sent a mms to my work phone and it went and didn't error out. :D

Do you get charged per MB for tethering this way? You might be able to check if you're getting billed on o2.co.uk.

You just made me think of something. Instead of just a $30.00 tethering plan, AT&T should offer a "pay as you go" tethering option. It could be an official App from AT&T that conducts the tethering and it can bill you based on how much data you use ... because most people would probably only use tethering about once or twice a month.

i think the guy who did this is on these forums somewhere, i recall in another thread someone asking for feedback and saying he was working on AT&T MMS settings
There's no way in heck this guy is going to tell us who he is. AT&T will force Apple to yank his developer privileges. If this guy created this little download and knows the iPhone OS that darn well, then we NEED this guy to keep developing for the iPhone. This guy really knows the iPhone OS!

AT&T is going to pissed, lol

This is good for them. It will give them some experience in how to deal with the network bandwidth management in the future when they allow tethering. :D
And AT&T needs to understand that they are no longer just running a cell phone network, they are now a wireless ISP. Computers. And, everything that computers involve.

I'm so torn on whether to do this tethering update when I get my 3GS because it's really unfair for ATT. However much we think they overcharge us for data and all that, WE agreed to those charges and to do something so against the terms of use seems like stealing. I know, a lot of people are saying "I have an unlimited data plan, and I'm just using data!" but that's not really true, we have a plan that provides for unlimited data on our mobile device, and also specifically excludes tethering.

Agghghh.

Let's just hope that this works with the official 3.0, but that it also won't mess up our current OS, say if they release a new update that activates tethering but it's already on, but I HIGHLY doubt it. The only real thing that I'm worried about is that AT&T finds out that people are using tethering on iPhones right now quickly and then charge us for it, the $30 that is. Then the worst case scenario, a website like cnet decides to post this up so EVERYONE can see and then AT&T will figure this out quicker. If we're lucky, they won't find out for about a week and then it'll take them a while to fix, I mean what are they going to do, ask Apple to release a new update (these come out months at a time)? I will find it really funny if there is no way for AT&T to stop this unless Apple releases an update, but then Apple decides to get revenge on AT&T and take a long time to release the update while everyone uses tethering for free on AT&T's servers, a service that should honestly come with the phone. I also hope that if MMS is figured out, AT&T won't bother to try and fix it and that their servers do get overloaded so they'll learn!

But it doesn't. You agreed that it doesn't through the contract you signed, and no carrier in the U.S. offers free tethering.

I call BS. Unless you have the 3gS you cannot have the battery % showing. It doesnt work with the 3g.

In case nobody answered, it's not BS. It's leftover from a jailbreak from a previous firmware.
