I'm not understanding.. So this website in the original post can load the proper settings for tethering, but we still need to go through all those steps for MMS? This method doesn't work for that?

It says it's tethering (and my mac has a green dot next to the connection) but it's still not working. Any website I go to just pulls up the network diagnostic blank page thing. Also have no idea how to get it to work with my laptop (windows).

In case nobody answered, it's not BS. It's leftover from a jailbreak from a previous firmware.

aye, this man speaks the truth, the battery percentage is left over from a previous jailbreak, though i'll reiterate that i've done nothing with this release related to tethering, its just always been there as an option for me

Oh seriously, it's just leftover!? I had the percentage going with a jailbreak hack from a long time ago and I just recently installed 3.0GM and I thought apple had put the percentage in. I'm going to miss it once again when I get the 3G s

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

"Cellular Data Network" is nowhere to be found for me but tethering is there.

the 3G S has it as an option from apple so you won't be missing it, you'll just have to enable it in the settings

There has to be some way that AT&T can tell if you're tethering since you obviously have to pay (normally) to activate it otherwise everyone could use it, or is that activating a little switch on your phone when you pay the money, or do you have to take it in store to get it unlocked? I don't know, but I'm just hoping that if AT&T can see which accounts have been tethering, that they won't charge unless it gets out of hand in which case they may or may not consider charging millions of owners $30 a month for the tethering they thought was free. I'll see tomorrow when I download 3.0, I was about to download the Gold one but decided to wait, hopefully this turns out well and we also get MMS.

Confirmation...

I would like to confirm that I have both MMS and Tethering working. I've sent and received MMS's and I'm posting this over my tethered internet connection through AT&T's 3G network.

I have a iPhone 3G 8GB with AT&T. Not jailbroken, still virginal apart from the necessary settings you had to change to get this stuff set up.

At first MMS didn't "work", i.e. the camera icon was not there even tho I entered the extra MMS settings from earlier in this thread. A restart made the icon appear that however the pics would stick at about 95% sending and fail. I just took out the SIM, put it into a burner, send a couple of texts / MMSs from that phone, plugged it back into the iPhone and voila.

I do have the family unlimited messaging plan...

Can post pics for the non believers...

If your smart about using your Tethering there is no way they could no. Just don't run it all day downloading torrents. General browsing on a limited basis, no ones the wiser.

Did you have to revert to an Old iTunes to enable the MMS?

Haha does anyone even read this thread.

The update is done directly through your iPhone safari browser. It's installing a carrier update directly, no iTunes.

Just to confirm, 2G iPhones don't allow MMS or Tethering to show up in the settings area.

I did that myself, got tethering unlocked. But there's no MMS options available in the settings. So my guess is this "hack" is for tethering only.

No... Nothing was done over iTunes except installing the original 3.0 GM seed to the phone a few days ago.

I literally visited the "iPhone Help Center" website on my iPhone (not going to link incase thats taboo) installed the tethering profile for AT&T, got the MMS settings, made sure they were entered. Rebooted the phone. Put the SIM into another phone. Put it back into the iPhone (required reboot). Profit.

There is a setting to turn off MMS under Settings>Messages but that wasn't even involved.

Like I said before I have the family unlimited plan.

Where are you in this process?
