Haha does anyone even read this thread.

The update is done directly through your iPhone safari browser. It's installing a carrier update directly, no iTunes.

Just to confirm, 2G iPhones don't allow MMS or Tethering to show up in the settings area.

This works for Tethering, but not MMS.

Where do you paste the info it tells you to copy?
I can go settings > general > profile > more details, but after that i can't edit the advanced settings...

No... Nothing was done over iTunes except installing the original 3.0 GM seed to the phone a few days ago.

I literally visited the "iPhone Help Center" website on my iPhone (not going to link incase thats taboo) installed the tethering profile for AT&T, got the MMS settings, made sure they were entered. Rebooted the phone. Put the SIM into another phone. Put it back into the iPhone (required reboot). Profit.

There is a setting to turn off MMS under Settings>Messages but that wasn't even involved.

Like I said before I have the family unlimited plan.

Where are you in this process?

I have the tethering profile installed, but I don't see where I enter MMS Settings....

Do you have to take the sim card out and put it in another phone?

Uh oh... things have gone south. Its back to stalling at 95% and failing... Me thinks someone is away of the situation?

No Mms

The first post is for Tethering only. It does not enable MMS nor the settings for it under "settings". My iPhone is 16GB 3G. My iPhone was the original 3.0 GM software. I set my iPhone up as new iPhone when i started 3.0.

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Scroll to MMS block. Enter in info for MMSC / MMS Proxy

Cellular Data Network doesn't show up for those of us who are doing this and only getting tethering.

Nor does the camera icon in the Messaging app.

I don't know... it just wasn't working before I took it out, then worked when I put it in... On my AT&T account management page it showed the crappy motorola I was using. Maybe then AT&T allowed the messages to pass?

I'm speculating. But as I said things aren't working again for me so...

no i never downgrade my itunes... keep reading around.
Can we have a hint?

Exactly! I know what to put in, but I can't get to Cellular Data Network in order to do so.

I will install the new ipccc file, but I don't want to downgrade iTunes, so if there's a way to do that, please let us know.

im having this exact same problem. tethering works, but i have no "cellular data network" option. im on AT&T family plan, unlimited data.

I have an iPhone 3G with 3.0GM and I downloaded the profile setting from benh.at and still can't get to that menu, "Cellular Data Network".

I've got tethering working though...

Same kind of thing in the UK, I had to change to a normal contract to get my MMS working on a Nokia, MMS sent and received fine, haven't changed back to a iPhone contract.

3.0GM No cellular data settings, Mr Ben needs to create a file similar to the tethering one for MMS, like an installer.

To get to Cellular Data Network:

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Scroll to MMS block. Enter in info for MMSC / MMS Proxy

I've posted it and quoted it a couple of times on this very page...

I'm in the same boat. Tethering but no Cellular Data Network settings.

And I have said quite a few times that if you don't use a hacked carrier the option for cellular data will NOT appear

I'm still here because I now have tethering without using a hacked carrier file because that website installed an apn profile on my phone for tethering and I'm willng to bet the same can be done for mms without having to use or edit an older iTunes version

Just to reiterate, people here got MMS to work by switching to the Family Plan unlimited messaging? If so, thank god, because that is exactly what i was planning to do soon anyway. I hope it works.

I"m having trouble getting tethering to work on my end. I've tried both the mobileconfig APN and a hacked ATT_US.ipcc file.

In both cases, tethering shows up as an option on my iPhone, and I can connect successfully via Bluetooth or with the dock connector. I get an IP address from ATT, and I'm connected to a DNS server, but if I try using any application to go online (Safari, for example), I receive a dialog saying I'm not connected to the Internet).

Any thoughts? Thanks!

3g tethering

Loaded the at&t file linked on the iphone via safari and now have the tether option.

Tried it out yesterday on wifi but what really blew me away was 3g. Good 3g coverage here (NYC) but it was the speed that amazed me. Even a youtube video came in perfectly well running 3g via the iPhone.

Impressive.

The tethering "hack" works for me, too - iPhone 3.0 on a 16GB 3G.

Via bluetooth, I was getting about 45KB/s connection speeds. Haven't had a chance to try it via USB, but I suspect it'll be better.

But for me, just the fact that it works is stellar. Props to the author! Haven't tried to see if NetShare still work, but the built-in tethering is a far superior solution anyway.

I can wait for MMS from AT&T; its not a priority for me.
