The only chance would be if you buy the Iphone in an Apple Store... with a bit of work, you should be able to apply the warranty in an other Apple Store in Europe.

This is a very tiny chance. I think Apple stores in different countries belong to the their own "companies" and are nyt directly managed by Apple

Haha, oh those British people. I think they reason why the English people deem it "premium" is because of the high alcohol percentage ;)

Hi in UK perhaps, rather weak by Belgian standard though, eh? :D

So, we received this info:

(belga/tw)

If you had been reading this forum you would know : no international support. The only chance would be if you buy the Iphone in an Apple Store... with a bit of work, you should be able to apply the warranty in an other Apple Store in Europe.

I don´t understand your post. I have been reading the forum and knew that if you buy it from the operator, there is no int´l support.

That´s why I mentioned Apple Store in my post, I said I´d buy it in Italy in an Apple store in Rome...would that give me international support ? That was the issue.

If you know how to get int´l support after buying the iPhone 3GS in an Apple store in Italy, please let me know.

Well, that's annoying. I've tried to reserve a 32GB unit from the Mobistar outlet in Leuven (white or black) and apparently they are out of stock. I'm not going to bother travelling to other locations (as mentioned before, I hate Brussels with a fiery passion) so it looks like I'll be waiting for them to get some stock later in the year. Either these things are ridiculously popular or Mobistar has about 5 of them for the entirety of the country.

Good luck to those people looking to buy from other branches.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with Stella in Belgium. There certainly is much nicer beers available (probably understatement of the year) but it is quite drinkable and doesn't leave you completely pissed after a couple of glasses. Give me a couple of Kwaks and I'm anybody's...

:( I'm still hesitating to confirm my flight for end of the week ...

PLEASE, anybody living in Belgium, try to find out if there will be some stock next week :).

I'll ask the next time I am passing Mobistar but I'd be amazed if they are restocked next week. Frankly, I'm not expecting them to be restocked for a month but then I'm cynical like that.

Same here in Switzerland, but the week after a new shipment had arrived !

I'll offer a beer to who ever can give me some info :p

Any got working MMS settings for O2 Germany? :p

btw, compared to my 2G the 3Gs is rocket-like fast. I love that thing <3

ps: For those that didn't read my earlier posts in this thread, I am currently using an officially unlocked (from italy) 32GB Gs on O2 Germany.

Hah..wicked ! Congratz ! You don´t seem to worry about warranty, ei ?:p

Why did your friend have to connect to iTunes to unlock it ? I mean, isn´t this something you could´ve done yourself ? I´m just asking because I would then ask my friend in Italy to do the same before bringing it to me...

More of a Duvel man myself and of course the avst world of in-bottle refermentation tripels. How spoilt we are in this strange little country

So I just took a walk up Neustraat in Brussels - Mobistar haven't even received their stock yet and don't expect it until the morning. I got the same message from my colleague whos wife's cousin has12 Mobistar shops - no stock until the morning, and they don't know what they will receive, neither quantities or specs.

On the other hand, Macline - the premium reseller - already have stock and were very happy to take an order from me to collect at 10:00 tomorrow morning, guaranteed :D. OK, it's a black one, they don't have white, but... So I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

BTW, the price WITHOUT contract is €704,99, not €675 for the 32GB.

So try the resellers - maybe you've a Macline or Cami close by?

Hmm, there's a Cami not too far from work (I'm at the cargo area of the airport) so I've dropped them an email (telephone not being answered at the moment) just in case but I'm not too hopeful. Still, it is worth a try and thanks for the tip.

My usual reseller is Easy-M in Leuven but since they have not been selling the iPhone 3G, plus it is a pretty big operation, I had assumed that only Mobistar was allowed to sell them in Belgium.

He put in his sim card and connected it to itunes. And then he got this "unlocked" message. I am sure it was also possible that I can connect it myself and get it unlocked but I didn't want to leave anything to chance :p.

@Lycanthrope: Where did you get the info about the €704,99 price? Source?

It's on the order form from Macline - I queried them that it was more expensive than Mobistar and they said the Mobistar price was when you took an abonnement (contract), he said it was the same deal at Mobistar but they don't advertise it thus...

I'm not really going to quibble about it right now, I was pleased to be able to reserve one without stressing in the morning.

Belgium is an odd country with French used in the south (Wallonia), Dutch used in the north (Flanders) but yet Brussels is French-speaking despite being in Flanders. French will serve you best in Brussels (failing that, Arabic might be worth a shot given the high Moroccan population) but I've been living in the country for the past 5-years and almost everyone (particularly in Flanders) speaks English to some degree (a lot of US/UK television programs on the TV that are subtitled rather than dubbed, which has been a blessing). Shops in Brussels definitely should speak English due to the tourist trade, although if you do speak French then you'll probably find happier staff.

Thanks for the info.

There's a Cami at Palace Dumont - Stockel, which is right by the ring and not far from Zaventem, you could try them too.

I finally managed to get through to someone there (must be busy) and they did indeed confirm that they will be selling the 3GS tomorrow. Unfortunately, they do not have any white 32GB versions (they have black versions) so I'm going to wait until either they or Mobistar have received them. I know black is more "stylish" but I still like the iconic white for Apple's products and it will be nice to replace my old 5g white iPod with something similar. As much as I'd really like to get the device tomorrow, I think that at the price I will have to pay I ought to expect to get exactly what I wanted.

Anyway, cheers for the tip and I hope you enjoy your 3GS when you pick it up tomorrow.

I'm unsure about availability the first days, tomorrow we'll know.

Hey, look what I found.

Looking for a premium reseller in italy I found the premium reseller MCS in Nice (www.mcs.fr). Well there maybe it wasn't the most updated site since they had a big banner telling me that they sold the iPhone 3G. The interesting thing is that they offer it in three variations. One of them unlocked and free to use any carrier.

So, if you can buy an unlocked iPhone 3G in france there might be a chance to buy a 3GS there aswell. How about that?

And by the way the 3Gs should be available in france since the 19:th of june so this might be an alternative for some of us?

So, what do you guys think? Is it worth checking out?...=)

PS. here's a link to the information about unlocked iPhones at MCS (http://www.mcs.fr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=1)

Mobistar pisses me off! I reserved one and was nr. 10 on the list, guaranteed to be served on my turn, but I just called them and turns out they just rethought their policy: Now, new subscribers coming from other mobile providers and/or people that take a ridiculously expensive iphone subscription are going to get served first. THEN, they'll take the reservation list, and after that it's open to public.

I find it quite insulting that after being a subscribing customer for years, calling around 80€ a month, I have to wait my turn for another dude coming from proximus or base that can just walk in the store and get one before me

If it is of any consolation, I am a Proximus customer at the moment and their reservation service told me to go away.

Add Australia to the list

Apple is selling it outright and unlocked as of tomorrow.

I don't at all understand why Apple go through Mobistar. Considering it's unlocked they should just sell through online and their resellers.

I've got a different story from every Mobistar shop I spoke to - you can be sure too that if you're not taking out a new contract you'll be mistreated.

Anwyay, go to a reseller and they don't care whether you're Mobistar or not...

I also prefer a white one as it's more old-school Apple IMO, but the black us perhaps more appropriate in a business setting. We'll see. When the stocks are higher then I can look at the white and get one then and sell the Black on eBay - for sure you do not lose money on factory unlocked iPhones...

Good luck tomorrow for those that go searching

Finally gonna do it

Booked my ticket from London to Brussels via Eurostar. Train leaves London at about 6am tomorrow.
The plan is to get to Brussels look for a Mobistar or Apple shop get a 32gig 3gs chill out in town then head back to London in the evening. I think ive taken my 8gig Iphone 2G as far as it can go.
Never been to Brussels before so should be interesting. Any pointers for connecting trains to main towns would be appreciated. Eurostar pulls in at 'Bruxelles Midi' dont know how near that is to the city center.
Damn I hope they accept Mastercard there

Eurostar takes you to South Station, from there you're best to take a train to Central station and take it from there.

Don't eat or drink around The Grand Place, it's a tourist trap and you be overcharged and served junk. If you want to chill and see some nice girls then I'd recommend to head towards Le Bourse and Place Saint Geri (excuse my spelling), all the bars over there are decent and all serve reasonable food.
