iPhone 3Gs - Italy and Belgium - unlocked?

First...with officially unlocked model you can update your device anytime you want, and you don't have to wait for new ultrasn0w and redsn0w to become available.
A friend of mine just told that he had succesfully done an order from Apple.it and UPS had delivered his 3GS to Finland with no problem
I just put my order through their www-pages...i'll report how it goes.
Plus, it doesn´t work well for everyone...maybe because of not following or understanding the instructions properly and venturing into unknown territory, maybe from the device itself...it´s risky imho

The city field was Vantaa,Finland and IT was down a couple of lines.
Shipping is free, atleast so it says on apple.it store

The thing I think which makes this exploiting possible is this:
Apple IT sees that the order goes to Italy by the country code -> they go through with it.
All these phones ship form Netherlands here in Europe -> free shipping with these products.
And I think UPS doesn't care much where it tranfers the package
and hey....what would life be without a little bit of excitement
I have just ordered a 16GB 3GS from the Italian Apple Store. I already have a 32gb out for delivery to my cousin's place in Italy - on the UPS tracking, it states that the shipment went from NL - which means that must be the central shipping area.
Anyway, with the 16gb, I put my UK address - I just put the postcode one line above and for the italian postcode, put 000000.
Let's see if it works!!!

I ordered from apple.it 40 minutes ago, got confirmation email and everything. Lets hope this works!
If it made it to finland it might aswell make it to sweden.
edit: I did put my postal code in the Italian postalcode field. Is it better to put 00000 and the real one in the city field? Anyone have any idea?

The nature of a UK postcode Letter/Number/Number/Letter/Letter means that the form doesn't allow it. So I put it above in the other field.
Alright, makes sense. Swedish postcodes are just 5 numbers so I guess I'll be ok.

I just ordered a black 32GB from apple IT in the same way. it worked, well... apple taken my money.
i logged back in via apple UK, and the order status is 'not yet shipped'. but it is there.
i will be shocked to see if this works. is there away to call the delivery company to see if this will get sent to the UK?

I am honestly confused about this step. It says unlock complete...what did he really do ? Just plug & play ?
Yep. When you get out your italian phone out of the box you won't be able to access anything (it will ask you to connect to itunes). Once you connect it, itunes will automatically contact Apple servers and unlock it for you. Then you get this screen I posted.
We should all edit our posts before too many people figure this out and Apple does something about it
I was one click away from ordering this when the angel on my shoulder said "what happens if it's faulty? You'll get the wrong power supply! The exchange rate is crap you might as well get an O2 contract!"

Where I am lucky... i'll be coming from Switzerland, which, offcially, is not part of Europe -> I will be able to remove VAT !

Al lot of people ordered because of one post on the internet. I'll wait and see. My niece from Italy will bring me an iPhone. But this seems to be the perfect loophole.
A day in Brussels
what a day! got to Brussels at 9am and went straight to the town central. I stumbled across 7 mobiastr shops and one apple shop but all iPhone 3gs sold out even before launch. most of the shop stores said apple were to blame as they were only given few stock. one shop had only 4 in total.
I finally came across a mobistar shop where they had 3 white 16gig 3gs left. Told the guy running the shop that I had come all the way from London but couldn't seem to find one. He took pity on me and called all around for availability but same story. In the end I settled for one of the white 16gig 3gs ones.
one Arabian dude came into the shop and even tried to buy the remaining 3,and pleaded for over 30 mins. However the shop seller refused as there Is a one per cust policy.
well in the end I had a great day saw some sights and now have an unlocked phone that should do till next year when another model comes out and then the madness repeats itself again.

But it was clearly chaos - how Apple can put out 1 million in the first release date, but then only supply about 1500 to a whole country, it's beyond belief!!

Hi guys! Is it possible to buy iPhone from IT store without paying VAT? Does Apple store ship via UPS? When something comes into my country (Ukraine) via UPS it is subject to ukrainian VAT and custom duties plus UPS interest.
Anyway, I want a 32Gb model, if someone could find the best deal to buy it cheaper and then send it to me via regular air mail that would be so great!

I went to most of those places you mention like city 2 shopping mall and media market on the 4th floor. In the end I didn't take the train to central, I just walked from midi station for the sight seeing.P.S the activation process is so straight forward,I just connected to itunes with my t-mobile uk sim and then it says Congratulations your 'Iphone is now unlocked'
