I'm going to Italy in a month - what and where is the cheapest place to pick an iphone up from around Venice? Is it around the €700 mark? it's cheaper to buy my contract out on o2, granted it's not unlocked

My advice, buy the unlocked iPhone if you are going to run it on a network at your home country that doesn't have a deal with Apple. If you are already an O2 UK customer then just get an iPhone from them.

Yeah very nice city, thanks for the information you gave me  I went to most of those places you mention like city 2 shopping mall and media market on the 4th floor. In the end I didn't take the train to central, I just walked from midi station for the sight seeing.

P.S the activation process is so straight forward,I just connected to itunes with my t-mobile uk sim and then it says Congratulations your 'Iphone is now unlocked'

Yeah now I think about it, it really isn't very far

Hey, the white one comes in a white box too - I didn't realise that

There isn't a real cheaper place, but if you are looking for saving some euro you can buy from '3 Stores' where they sell the old 3g model,or the 3g s,at slightly lower prices (499 euro for the 3g,599 euro for the 3g s 16 giga,699 euro for the 32 giga). In Venice itself, but also in the surrounding area it is easy to find mobile stores.

one Arabian dude came into the shop and even tried to buy the remaining 3,and pleaded for over 30 mins. However the shop seller refused as there Is a one per cust policy.

Could you tell me how do they process this check ? Could one go in each store and buy one in each store or is there like a central database and they ask your identity card ?

In the Macline store they just filled in some papers for Mobistar, there was no formal identification of any sort. However I don't know what they do in the Mobistar shops themselves.

I'm not really a 100% sure how it works. The seller said he has to record the transaction on the system per Iphone and if he sold 3 he would need 3 different addresses. I couldn't say if they have a central data base but i would think you can buy from Different shops. The seller did say that they were trying to discourage people from buying them and reselling on ebay as it deprives most people who genuinely just want the Phones for themselves.

I personally feel that it is better to buy from Belgium then Italy as it is cheaper and the City Centre isn't that large which makes it easier for you to find a shop selling one. The Only problem is availability, as they were short of stock but then again thats to be expected on launch day.

I'm very interested in copying you NW and hopping over to Belgium to get an iPhone, maybe sample some of the local beers there too ;) Your posts have been very helpful and informative.

I'm in Camden so Eurostar is just a short walk away.

My current network is 3mobile and i'm tied in to a contract till end November. Anyone else used an iPhone with 3mobile network in the UK?

The idea of getting a phone from Apple Italy is interesting too.

If you need any beer recommendations then just tell me your preferences and I can give you some pointers :)

Dont mention it. Best part is that its only 1hr 55 mins from London to Belgium vua Eurostar and sometimes if you lucky you can get return ticket for £59.
I used to be with 3 for 2 yrs during the days of the nokie N72 and N73 ;) but the 3 signal isnt the best where I live and hence im now with Tmobile.
You might wanna see if you can call any of the Mobistar shops and see if they have any in stock and if they can reserve you one just in case. I was very very very close to coming home empty handed yesterday.

The suspense is killing me

Just got a shipped notification from Apple.it :)

Now let's start tracking :D

INF, you have to let use know as soon as you get more information about the tracking and/or when you receive it!

I was going to fly to Roma but this is much less expensive.

I like all kinds of beer :D All recommendations welcome

Return ticket for £59 - sounds great!

If I do go over (which i think i will) then i may either take the GF and make a weekend of it. Or go out sampling the local ales instead with my brother - it's a tough choice.

Is the iPhone is compatible with the 3mobile UMTS sim? - just a thought!

I can get a data plan from 3mobile for £5 per month and as all the family are on 3 I dont really want to have to move off this network. I have been previously with t-mobile, vodafone, orange and I do find 3 to be the most helpful and i'm happy with them and the service I get.

How was the language barrier? My french is well..... very rusty now.

lol at least you speak some french, I don't speak a word. Its cool though most of the people speak some english and the only 2 words you really need are 'Iphone' and 'Mobistar'.

I did some photocopies of pictures of Iphones on Mobistar and thats all that was needed. just print some of their website. A picture speaks a thousand words.

I don't see why the 3 sim wont work on the Iphone, I don't know that many people with 3 these days or I Would have checked for you.

My old 3 sim card deactivated when I ported the number to Tmobile

Well the vast majority of Belgian beer is in bottles rather than tap, here's an interesting selection:

Duvel
Karmeliet Tripel
Westmaelle Tripel
Val Dieu Tripel
Hoegaarden Grand Cru
Lamoral Degemont Tripel
Chimay Bleu
Achel Tripel
Westvletern Tripel
Rochefort 10
Grimbergen Gold

Be sure to take the bottle with the glass as all these beers have the yeast sediment in the bottom and swilling it out with the final centimeter of beet really adds bite to the beer

All are in the region of 8 - 9% alcohol (except the Rochefort which is more like 12%)

These are the only things reading on UPS site atm. But i guess that it's weekend so the tracking might not update until monday.

What, no Corsendonk? And my wife swears by the Westmaelle Dubbel since she only likes the dark beers.

For the record, both Triple Karmeliet and Westmaelle Triple have given me stunning hangovers.

It may also be worth knowing that your Eurostar ticket entitles you to free rail travel around Belgium. I expect that there are many trains that go to Brussels Centraal station but since we are living up north we always end up getting a train going to Antwerp that normally leaves from platform 18 (translated: the platforms furthest from the departure area of the Eurostar).

Nice! Hopefully it makes it to you! I'm excited for you.

@SFSTATEStudent

Yeah, I hear ya. But keep in mind that the majority of Europe has it tied into plans just like the US. They just have a bit of legislation that says otherwise. Now, if you have a 3G and you've had it a year or so, you should call ATT and ask them to unlock it because you are traveling over-seas. They did it with my RAZR v3XX.

That's a possibility, thanks....

Would anyone in France or Italy buy one for me and ship it to the US? I would pay for the phone and shipping of course. Thanks

The Agnus isn't too bad, but I'm really a sucker for in-bottle re-fermentation (oooo, errr missus, sounds a bit rude).

I can concur on the Karmeliet and Wetmaelle hang-overs, they've f*cked me up on many an occassion, but oh, a couple of days pass and there I am again :D

Today I must admit to being a bit woolly on account of a 3AM bedtime and five bottles of the land's finest. Not a huge amount, but enough to make you know you shouldn't've
