basically Apple canceled my order.

boymature - sorry mate, i should had kept my mouth shut.

Duck.

I don't think there is any hope of mine working then... shame it was fun whilst it lasted

YES.

And it seems it's in the range of Rome's postal codes so there didn't come any errors ;) Well, let's hope UPS reads the address line right and brings the phone straight to Finland :) Tomorrow I will probably know more.

w00t!

However, a European AppleCare plan appears to cover iPhones in many European countries and I can find no mention in its legal Terms & Conditions that states that you need to have have your device serviced in the country that it was bought.(...)
If I am mis-interpreting things here, folks, then feel free to correct me.

The last sentence of the first paragraph of that document: "Apple may restrict service provided under this Plan to the Covered Equipment’s original country of purchase."

That's not a guarantee that they will make you haul it back to Belgium or Italy, but it's certainly not a guarantee that they won't!

daleski75 - the italian says:

Thanks for trying out the Apple Store.

We have identified an error in your order reference number W89854 ***

The postal code the address for billing and shipping is not correct, therefore we can not process your order.

Please send back your order with a valid zip code.

Way to go! I hope my postal code works (it's only 4 digits and it has 3 zeros)

That is great news Inf glad it worked for you!! Mine still says order not shipped so will let everyone know if anything changes.

I can see myself selling my locked iphone 3gs and taking a trip to brussels pretty soon!

Hmm. Swedish postcodes are 5 number ex. "12345", HOPEFULLY it'll pass. I have not recieved any notifications from Apple. Order has not been shipped.

Approx. date of arrival 3-6 July.

INF, you are a lucky guy.

It's good to be lucky sometimes :D With my luck that phone should be somewhere across the globe by now :D

Just got email from apple:

I changed the post code from 00000 to 00100(Rome) last night.

Hah, then enjoy this sweet victory even more.

One thing that I find a bit wierd. Did you put in your order friday 26th?
Because that would have been extremely fast delivery. Considering mine has not been done anything with since the 26th of June. Although my order was a 16gb WHITE 3GS, maybe it's out of stock or something.

I done the same last night after seeing 00000 is an invalid postal code, maybe they might see 00100 and let it through.

Still not debited anything from my card yet, 4 days before it ships.

I think on their site it says 4 business days to ship so maybe they are waiting for new stock before they get sent out?

Apple charged me £597 for 32gb right after I placed the order.
Hsbc also rang me to check whether it was a fraud transaction...

I checked RBS this morning and so far nothing at all not even pending transactions which is a bit weird.

Thinking whether I should cancel the order for the 16gb and get the 32gb one on a different card?

Well, that's annoying - after having ploughed my way through 12-pages of legal mumbojumbo, you'd have thought that I'd have noticed that key line.

Personally, I will be buying an iPhone 3GS here in Belgium and will likely be moving back to the UK within the next 3-years. If Apple attempts to make me take it back to Belgium for servicing then there will be trouble. Perhaps anyone faced with a non-local iPhone that needs servicing can take the same track as I will genuinely be doing - informing Apple that they were a contractor working in the country of purchase whose contract was terminated and they have now moved back to their "home" country. It's worth a try.

Yes i put my order on Friday 26th.So a pretty fast delivery, but the phone gets sent from Netherlands so one day isn't bad (over a weekend anyway).

I placed my order yesterday and nothing seen on my credit card yet, thinking I will cancel the order and go with a 32gb as this should be processed faster.

Congrats on getting your phone!

When did you place your order?

I placed my order Friday, 26th of June, 11:00 CET+01. They charged me the same day.

I think it's amazing. Let us know when you get the iPhone and report if you got the "warm" screen or the rattle etc etc. Let us know everything! heh
