if you have a 3G and you've had it a year or so, you should call ATT and ask them to unlock it because you are traveling over-seas. They did it with my RAZR v3XX.
ATT will do it for all of their phones except the iPhone.
What is the unlock code for my iPhone?: "iPhone cannot be unlocked, even if you are out of contract."

(Of course they really mean "it can be, but we aren't going to do it so stop asking!")

Just ordered a 32Gb 3GS from Apple Italy for delivery to UK. Apple UK store shows my order in progress with a delivery estimate of 2/3 July - will post when it arrives!

how exactly did you do that. I just tried on apple.it and it would only allow me to enter an italian delivery address.

The more you know

Wow...that's really interesting. I thought it was just because I had my 3G for such a short amount of time. My personal thought is the FCC should look into it (especially after contract).

But...now we know. Thanks ckd.:)

If you do buy the phone from Apple.it, are you warranted worldwide then? Meaning, can you go to your local apple store if the phone breaks or has issues?

Read the thread. Your question was answered at least two times on the very same thread your are posting to. Short answer is, No.

Without being able to read a warranty card that comes with an iPhone from Italy I cannot confirm what it covers (or, more importantly, where you can claim on it) but I see no reason to doubt what has been written already by others. However, a European AppleCare plan appears to cover iPhones in many European countries and I can find no mention in its legal Terms & Conditions that states that you need to have have your device serviced in the country that it was bought.

It might also be worth noting that the AppleCare agreement will also see your battery replaced for free if its charge capacity reduces to 50% or less during any time of the 2-year coverage (which can effectively be 3-years, if you register at the end of 1-year warranty). However, since the AppleCare agreement doesn't kick-in until your standard warranty has expired, and assuming that the standard warranty does state that the device can only be serviced in the country that it was purchased, you may have 1-year to wait before you can get your iPhone serviced locally.

If I am mis-interpreting things here, folks, then feel free to correct me.

Well I got annoyed with my O2 locked iPhone 3GS which now has 2 annoying problems, keeps on losing the 3G data connection for about an hour and problems with the battery life.

So I ordered a unlocked one from Italy!!

Anyone want to buy when I get I it a brand new 16gb 3GS??

P.M me for details!

FYI, the iPhone 3GS is sold out in all Mobistar Centers in Belgium.
And one Apple Premium Reseller, Abelsys has submitted a complaint to the Brussels Commercial Court to sue Mobistar for misleading advertising and unfair trade practices because Apple Premium Resellers get less iPhones in stock than Mobistar's own shops.

About Belgian beer:

I like Augustijn, Duvel, Kasteelbier, Orval. Cheapest in Colruyt stores (www.coluyt.be)
For example: Coluyt Sint-Jans-Molenbeek ==> underground station Ossegem ==> Steenweg op Gent 362 (300m walk)

You will never find Westvleteren Tripel, it's only sold in St. Sixtus' Abbey West-Vleteren and first you have to call the "beer telephone" te reserve your beer crate.

hi there.

okay, i try to buy the iphone thru apple store italy, however i found it is difficult to purchase with the italian language. Could i change to the other language setup or i must use my own instinct or what? :D

ok was thinking of doing it through france but there is a contract involved so no thank you.
For those who have ordered from the italian website - what is the story when entering in the delivery address? If you are able to put in your english address would i come across any problems getting it sent to Ireland where we don't have post codes so would have to put na under that title???

I followed everyone else, put 00000 as the Italian post code and then put your post code on the country bit just above and mine got accepted and processed fine.

So what i would do is simply write 'Ireland' where you all are entering your postcode and then 000000 as the Italian post code?
I think i'll wait until i hear that this has worked for other people - very cowardly i know and apple will have probably sussed by that time but as a student who has been saving for this, can't afford for it to go wrong!

I would guess so yeah... I don't blame you actually, I have more money than sense... got a 1 week old O2 3gs in front of me lol which I will be selling soon (once I get a replacement)...

If you watch this thread I am sure you will find out soon enough if it works

I left the country as Italy (think it's hard-coded anyway) but put the postcode as 00000, put the town as Sheffield, UK and the UK postcode above that.

This is what other posters have been using and as seemingly Apple post the phone from their central warehouse in Netherlands, the courier firm they use will still see UK as part of the address - that's the theory anyway!

Mine says the 6/7 July for the 16gb one, not sure if this will work in the end and I guess if not they will just put the money back on your card so nothing lost.

Nothing...still sitting in Koeln,Germany. But I think, as I already noted, that those won't update on weekends. So we'll see tomorrow when it starts to update again.

Fingers crossed for you, ordered mine earlier after reading through this entire thread... :)

Not strictly true, you can buy it in some places, for instance Beer Mania has it, albeit at €12 per bottle. Worth buying a crate and eBaying methinks :D

tried and failed.

I tried to order an iphone 3Gs 32GB from italy and send it to the UK on friday.

again like everyone else, i entered the post code as 000000.

its seamed to have worked, the Shipping status was 'prepared to Ship'.

but then i get this e-mail from apple... does anyone read Italian?

INF,

You put your Finish zipcode in the zipcode spot right? (so maybe yours will actually make it)

YES.

And it seems it's in the range of Rome's postal codes so there didn't come any errors ;) Well, let's hope UPS reads the address line right and brings the phone straight to Finland :) Tomorrow I will probably know more.
