just to let you know
my very small o2 shop ill be getting 15 32gb 3gs
30 in total.
this is more than last year when they had 8 16's..
shop opening 9:01.

Are you sure about this? I thought I read somewhere that you can only port a number to a new contract within the first 30 days of that contract...

I suppose it's possible that some networks apply different rules or that the rules have changed since I did it with T-Mobile in 2005.

It might be wise to double-check with O2. :)

how did you find that out?
last year o2 had the stock details on the website, it's not up yet as far as i can tell

i just twittered mobiles.co.uk to ask about if they had stock and had this back:

"Hi There, You will definitely receive the iphone on the 19th, they are in stock and ready to go - enjoy!"

cant wait to get it now!

Yea I'm hoping to get PAYG and O2 said they will have stock on Friday but don't know how many. Will CPW have PAYG on Friday, have people heard anything? Haven't called my local store yet...

ok .. I phoned CPW this morning (sales) and they said (while sounding like they had no actual clue at all!!!!) that they didn't think the PAYG 3GS would be available on Friday.

Then I called O2 ... well, have to say, what a different experience!!!!!! ... they said that yes, the 3GS PAYG will be for sale on Friday and that they will definitely be for sale in the CPW stores too! .. I asked if my local CPW would know now what would be there on Friday and she said not necessarily and would be best to call them back on Thursday for more info.

So then the 3GS PAYG is definitely a go for Friday .. ummm .. maybe!!! lol

oh! .. I also asked if I could just pop my existing contract 3G sim into the new PAYG phone and ride out the contract then transfer my number to the PAYG sim and use that from then on in (with the 12 months free data thingy) and was told YES! .. all go here .. now I just need to get hold of a phone! lol

I phoned my local CPW store and they knew nothing, I'm sure some staff weren't even aware there was a new iPhone

Phone their sales line and they seem to have the best information.

My Friend spoke to CPW and apparently they will buy your iPhone off you if you upgrade, they will pay £150 for the iPhone 3G and £100 for the iPhone 2G, you still have to pay for the cancellation fees etc.. i'd rather wait until November when I can upgrade for free.

That's not a very generous deal. Most of the on-line suppliers such as Envirofone are paying £200 for a 3G, and you'd probably get even more on Ebay (if you want the hassle!).

Sorry to be a muppet but...i want an iphone 3gs, currently not on o2, can i just wait til friday log onto o2.co.uk and order one online or do i have to go in store?

I've been reading about the 3G S as much as I can and I'm not totally sure of the best option for me - I keep deciding and then changing my mind :p

I have a contract with O2 (not iPhone), which runs until 28th July 2009. Now the sensible answer is to wait until then and just upgrade to the iPhone then, but as with everything, I would really prefer to get one on Friday

The options as I see it are to either phone O2 on Friday, pay off my contract and ask them to send me a new phone - I don't think I can do this in a shop so I'd have to wait for the phone to be delivered?

The other option is to cancel my contract and just get a PAYG 3G S on Friday which would mean getting another number - or can I move a contract number to PAYG?

Apologies for asking these questions here, but I've spoken to various O2 people over the past couple of days and have got different answers from them all!

Thanks :)

the o2 shop manager told me what stock she was getting.
they will arrive instore on FRIDAY ( nothing like leaving it till the last minute!)

no reason to doubt her. she is usually great and helpful.

You could buy the Iphone 3GS on PAYG and put your existing SIM card in it. Come your contract renewal date, simply downgrade to the Simplicity Tariff, or renew your contract, take a new phone off them and sell it on ebay to claw back some of the money you have laid out for the PAYG iphone. Also depending how long you have been with o2 and monthly spend etc you may also be able to get a discount off your tariff. When i upgraded last year i got 40% off the price of my monthly tariff (non iphone tariff that is).

Did anyone get a definitive answer from Apple about whether upgrade-eligible 2G iPhone owners will be able to upgrade at the Apple Store now or whether we still have to go to O2?

I've seen plenty written about how you can transfer a number from PAYG to contract but if I bought a PAYG on Friday could I get a PAC code to transfer my current contract number to the PAYG sim and then simply cancel the contract in July? That would seem to be the easiest option, but I'm not sure they are keen transferring people's numbers from contract to PAYG!

Changing phones shouldn't be this complicated!

This should not be a problem. A PAC Code, which your network is obliged to give you, can be used to transfer a number on to any U.K. network sim.

Just make sure that the PAYG sim is registered to you so that if you lose your iPhone you can at least retrieve the number.

Also, don't forget to get the PAC Code BEFORE the contract expires. The PAC Code itself last for 30 days.

Thanks very much for your help :D

Some time ago I swapped my O2 contract number only an O2 payg sim. It was as simple as calling them up and telling them that's what I wanted to do. They just took the serial number of the PAYG sim over the phone and did it all straight away. I think the number change actually occured overnight or sometime soon after. It wasn't instant.

I think the reason I did it was something to do with ending a contract and not having to write a letter and give 30 days notice.
