Something similar happened to me when I asked my local o2 store... "what time will you be selling these at"... the rep said "we'll be selling these from 2 minutes past 9"... i was like wtf lol, how precise.
It's nine O2.

Some time ago I swapped my O2 contract number only an O2 payg sim. It was as simple as calling them up and telling them that's what I wanted to do. They just took the serial number of the PAYG sim over the phone and did it all straight away. I think the number change actually occured overnight or sometime soon after. It wasn't instant.
I think the reason I did it was something to do with ending a contract and not having to write a letter and give 30 days notice.
Yes, I think the procedure is probably much simpler if the number transfer is not cross-network.
Cross-network transfers certainly require a PAC Code and the transfer to O2 normally take 5 days IIRC.
Did anyone get a definitive answer from Apple about whether upgrade-eligible 2G iPhone owners will be able to upgrade at the Apple Store now or whether we still have to go to O2?
The easiest thing for you will be to forget the PAYG SIM altogether and simply use your existing SIM in the "PAYG iPhone" you get (there's actually no difference whatsover between a "PAYG iPhone" and a "contract iPhone" - it's only the SIM they give you along with the boxed iPhone that is different). Come 28th July you can either allow your current contract to continue (it will do so on a one-monthly basis), or switch to Simplicity to save money / get more mins & texts - that will definitely be more cost effective than switching to PAYG unless you use virtually no mins or texts.I've seen plenty written about how you can transfer a number from PAYG to contract but if I bought a PAYG on Friday could I get a PAC code to transfer my current contract number to the PAYG sim and then simply cancel the contract in July? That would seem to be the easiest option, but I'm not sure they are keen transferring people's numbers from contract to PAYG!
Changing phones shouldn't be this complicated!![]()
When you buy on PAYG they just give you the iPhone in a box and a PAYG SIM - that's basically it. They leave it to you to connect it up to iTunes and activate. So is it possible to purchase the PAYG phone in store (Apple, O2 or CPW) without being forced to activate the sim there and then? Since I plan to use a simplicity sim, I'd like to just pick it up off the shelf, pay and leave.
If thats not possible, I guess I'll order from the online Apple store.
Call O2 on 08442 020202 to speak to a sales advisor.
I have been told (twice, once in-store and once on the phone) by the Birmingham Bullring store that I can upgrade in-store on Friday morning. (My 18month 1st gen iPhone contract expired last month.) I plan to check this again Thursday afternoon.

Sorry to be a muppet but...i want an iphone 3gs, currently not on o2, can i just wait til friday log onto o2.co.uk and order one online or do i have to go in store?
Hmm, Apple Trafford Centre have just told me that they can upgrade me instore but only if I cancel my existing contract, get a PAC code then take out a new contract so effectively it isn't an upgrade at all! Liverpool One didn't answer the 'phone...![]()
I really don't know the answer to this because at the moment, as far as I can see, there is only the facility to order the 3G on the O2 site.
Presumably, by Friday this will change and you will be able to place an order online, but with O2 you never know.
How about a pre-order online with CPW?

ive heard bad things about cpw so wanted to go direct with o2.
Hmm indeed... this is why I still have my doubts about what the Bullring store told me!
But are you sure they understood that you were a 1st gen iPhone owner and that your 18month contract had expired? Most of the upgrade focus has been on 3G owners with a few months or more to run - their situation is, shall we say, more complicated![]()

Yeah, I was very clear about that. To muddy the waters further, I finally got through to Liverpool One who said that they were "definitely doing the upgrade process on Friday".
</me bangs head repeatedly against wall>
Ah well, it'll be Friday night before I can get to the shops so they'll probably have sold out anyway!
Let us know if you hear any more...

has anyone sent there 3g's to them?? (not 3gs lol)
is it really 3 days and the moneys in your bank???
your only going to hear bad things about CPW on here. You will never hear of the the people that had great customer service as there will be no need to be on here.
Another words try them out, they may surprise you!
He also said that I may even be able to simply upgrade in the Apple store, they still hadn't worked out upgrades through Apple and may not know more until Friday itself.
