Quick question if i buy a 3G S from Carphone Warehouse can i buy the insurance with O2 directly?

Carphone Warehouse do their own insurance.

Interestingly enought though, I was on the CPW Lifeline insurance which I took out when I bought my 3G from them on launch day last year. I was trying to get in touch with them on Monday to swap the insurance onto my new 3GS which I bought on friday. I had to enter my phone number into an automated thingy on the phone, which then didn't recognise it, so long story short I was told to call O2 which I did.

I spoke to them and explained what I wanted to do, and they've now told me to cancel my CPW insurance and are adding O2's own insurance onto my account. I have to fax them my receipt for the new handset, but it should all be sorted out tomorrow.

I was quite suprised that they were willing to do this. I'd prefer to have it through O2 than CPW anyway.

So i just got back from my genius appointment...very busy. The guy tried to tell me that the screen 'is within normal parameters' then i quickly piped up and said 'my previous 3G wasn't like that. This one looks like you're looking through a dirty window and is blotchy/washed out', he pauses then confers with a fellow genius who agrees that the screen is faulty.

He then offers to replace the screen (not the whole phone), since i ordered online and not in store and that it would take 25mins. I figure why not, besides it beats having to send my phone back and wait another few days for a replacement. He goes to the back but comes out again saying they don't have replacement screens so he'll give me a new phone

He brings out the new phone and its screen is much better, deeper colours, no washed out-ness. However it still has the 'warm' calibration/tinge but it doesn't look like urine like on some other phones...basically it looks like the 9C85 screen on the MBP.

Overall i'm happy with it. Poor quick pic below.

My 3GS has just arrived.... and it is broken :(

Tiny cracks round the volume button and screws. O2 say they have no stock right now, but will call when it can be swapped over. They asked if I had dropped it - its not even out of the plastic wrapper yet!!

Hmmmm...

Had mine changed today. Walked into Apple Regent Street. Blagged my way into a genius appointment even though they were fully booked.
The guy was very nice but said he couldn't see a problem. We compared it to one of the store phones which was just as bad.
Then showed him my wifes 3gs which is fine and my 3g.
After seeing them he agreed there was a problem and replaced it with a new one.
Clear screen no warmth or yellow tinge.
God I love Apple's customer service.

Twas really packed in there today wasn't it. I was in the store 10 mins early and wanted to compare my phone with the ones in store to see if it was a common issue but the table was packed with people and they wouldn't put down the phones till my appt time came and i just gave up. Oh well annoyances/perks of a flagship store

I'm glad though my new screen is waay better than the one that was delivered. I only noticed the tinge at very low brightness and because i was looking very hard for it. Anything over 45/50 nits and it disappears *shrug*. Go figure. At least now i can properly enjoy the phone.

Could you tell me the problem which you were having with the iPhone? Sorry to be a pain. Its just that I bought the 3Gs on launch and i've noticed on three occasions when I try to wake the phone up from 'sleep', the screen is very very dim and you can hardly see the screen... you can just about make the 'slide to unlock' text. Then when I press the power button once, it comes on full brightness.

Should I be concerned?

yeah was a bit manic in there today. Got there about 1.30pm left about 2ish. By the way I use the same cat pic as you on Playstation network. lol:):)

Ordered a 16 GB 3G S white yesterday afternoon ... went to prepared for shipping within 5 minutes, shipped at around 2100 yesterday. This morning logged on to check status, went back to prepared for shipping...:confused:

Mine has done that a couple of times too. If it does it a lot I'll try a restore and report it as a bug to Apple - I'm sure it'll be a software issue, the ambient light sensor seems to work fine and the backlight is OK otherwise.

I didn't have this issue, my issue was about the washed out colors of the screen. I think the ambient light sensor overall could do with a bit more sensitivity...it only works well in brightly lit conditions and suffers terribly with 'ambient' lighting

Or use PAY GO for 7 months, and THEN PAC over my current number...?

When it comes to the screens, I see 2 issues:
* There appears to be a software bug where it won't always wake up bright enough. Put it to sleep and wake again, and it'll be fine.
* As with the 3G, it's warmer than the previous model. That's not a fault; it's just how the white point is calibrated. Theoretically, if enough people don't like it, Apple should be able to adjust it in a software update - but then I strongly suspect everyone would be complaining that it's all gone blue :p

Can't see why not. There's no commitment with Pay&Go or Simplicity (well, 1 month which is the same thing) and you can PAC any number as long as its contract is fulfilled.

Yes, I warned you about 3's cancellations :) Write a letter. Phoning them is hopeless unless you want a retention deal out of them (like with Sky) - they're trained and paid to be ruthlessly persistent.

BTW, repeating the question when people don't answer straight away is bad form, and makes you look like a child. *Slaps wrist* (as an observer, not a mod) stoppit! ;)

PAC any number as long as contract if filled = PAC number being used automatically means the source contract is termintated, i believe.

Man, 3 is a nightmare. I wake up, and my routine is
1) Make a coffee
2) Call them

Im gonna call them every day this week.
They are already saying ive missed the 17th June deadline.
I dont wanna push it to over 30th June (when 3likehome ends)

Letter will mean it takes days to get there + response etc.... and what would a letter do? They would simply read it and trash it, no?
They havnet called me in 2 days, so i dont expect them to reply to letter.

Either way, im buying an iphone, so whether i fork out £440 now or later, is the same thing. So i might just buy iphone now, use pay go and play with it, i hear i dont have to top up every month, so i can make £10 last a long time, and then when 3 finally let me go at xmas, then i will get simplicity with my old number PAC'd over........SOUND LIKE A PLAN???

(sorry for repeating, but threads like this are so busy, that posts get lost so quickly and easily)

Terminated, fulfilled, same thing, or at least I meant the same thing :p

It's not taking you 'days' to cancel over the phone, then?

A letter is the one thing that is legal proof of communication/request and pretty much guaranteed to get the message across. As long as you state in no uncertain terms that the letter serves as non-negotiable 30+ days notice for termination at the earliest possible opportunity, then it's there in black and white and they have to honour it. Letters are universally accepted as "the final say".

Send it Recorded Delivery for proof that they received it, so that they can't just say "letter? What letter?" and it'd even be suitable for legal action, if necessary. {IANAL, this is not legal advice etc etc}. Do NOT take any more phone calls from them until you get a letter back, in case they take it as re-opening negotiations. I said in my letter that it was non-negotiable, but they still tried to call.

This is how I managed to cancel 3, and sure enough, a week later I received a letter saying along the lines of "further to your correspondence dated soandso, we confirm that your contract will be canceled as of soandso. We have tried to contact you to discuss this but were unable to do so - if you change your mind please call us on blah. Thank you for your business." And that was the end of it.

Yeah get a Pay&Go one early and sort out all the cancellation and number porting later. That's what I decided to do.

iPhone 3G S Broken

Well the iPhone 3G S it's self is wicked I luv it, everything works great on it other then the fact that I CAN'T make of receive phone calls. :(
I have spoken to O2 and Apple and as it turns out its faulty so be aware, make sure your phone and do these things.
They are also saying there are no iPhones 3G S 32GB white or in any colour available I am on a waiting list for one.

Also as for upgrading I have had np at all :D , O2 let me upgrade on the day of release on the day of release (19 June 2009). I have had an iPhone since the 2G one though then upgraded on the day of release for 3G the same foe 3GS. Not sure if this matters and this is why they have let me upgrade early.

thanks cloudane, ill PM you later.

Phone call number threee just made.
they have not called me back, still saying the will.
I asked for PAC today.
I said i wanna send a letter cause we are not getting anywhere and its been 3 days of calls. He said get the address from 3 website....he wouldnt even give it to me.....

said i could sell the contract to a friend, so they pay and use it.....but i still would NOT get a PAC......so whats the point i said.....

02:
"To get the full iPhone experience I recommend that you should add the Unlimited Web and Wi-Fi Bolt On"....... but simplcity can only choose one bolt on.....what the hell are the talking about? web and wi fi bolt ons are two diff bolt ons, correct?

O2 16GB Black iPhone 3G S is currently out of stock. I ordered yesterday before 3pm, expecting it to be with me now... After trying to find the tracking on O2 website I just called them, they told me they will be getting them soon.

I've Just received a email confirming that the iPhone 3G S 16GB Black will be in stock week commencing 29/06/09 and will be delivered ASAP. Here's me hoping I will get it Tuesday at the latest ( monday makes more sense as they only went out of stock just before I ordered, therefor not a huge backlog before me. )
