Advice please, 3G or 3GS for T-Mobile UK
Hope someone can pleae offer me some advice. I am currently locked into an 18 month contract with T-Mobile (25 Quid a month) as they are the only carrier in my area that can offer decent coverage. I was thinking of buying the new Iphone 3G-S as I can just about afford the 16GB model if I sell my new phone (Touch pro 2) that came with the contract.
1. The Apple Store/02 shop have both told me that on Pay and Go the handset must be locked to 02 otherwise it invalidates the warranty. I know the 3G-S has not been currently unlocked due to 3.0 and new hardware. But do you think it's likely that if it is cracked and unlocked will it give me the ability to do a factory reset to a locked state in case I needed to take it back under warranty for repair. Is this how the current 3G model works.
Jailbraking only affects software, so before you take it back to applestore just restore to legit version
2. Also forgive my ignorance but do these turbo sim cards work ok or is a software exploit the way to go. It's just that a Turbo Sim is not affecting the hardware/operating system so surely that would be safer if I wanted to stay under warranty. Am I reading into this correct? I'm not too bothered on jailbreaking, just unlocking.
In the early days, i think this was a way of unlocking, but its just as safe or safer to jailbrakw/unlock
3. If I decided to keep the Iphone 3GS on Pay & Go with 02 what is the minimum topup that I would need to pay each month. Is it just £10 at the start and then nothing unless I decide to top up?
There isnt a minimum amount you have to top-up. You get unlimited data for 12months, but after this it costs £10 p/m for internet
4. Is there a better 02 sim card deal that I could use with Pay and Go rather than the one advertised. It doesn't seem great value. I would looking for around 300 mins/300 texts and unlimited web - are there better sim deals that I could use.The iPhone O2 PAYG sim is the best as you get free data for 12months. There is another sim called simplicity, that you may want to check out. This is a rolling monthly contract
5. I've seen a Factory unlocked 3G Iphone on ebay for around the same price as the 16GB locked 3GS. Do you think the offer listed below would be a good deal as I understand my Sim should work on now and after future upgrades. I really wanted the 3GS but other than the camera do you think I should go with the Original 3G and have the peace of mind. Its not guaranteed that the 3GS will be unlockable. If you are definitely not going to use O2, then you best bet would be the factory unlocked 3G. if your iPhone is not factory unlocked, then it would have been unlocked manually by jailbraking, which will cause u headaches in the future when you want to get the SW upgrades apple release
I wouldn't worry about the 3GS as such. Basically the phone is faster, voice dialing, video and slightly better camera. If you can live without that then get the 3G
