I tried another O2 store today, I called and asked if they had stock (16gb 3GS). The chap laughed and said he doesn't know when they'll get them, they've been waiting for a delivery for a few days now.

Hopefully the info I was given via email will be correct, and I will receive my iPhone next Monday/Tuesday. Shame I won't get anything for the inconvenience... I wonder how many they are getting

Just sold my iPhone 3G 8GB for £300 on eBay, got cash too, so my 32GB 3GS cost me a total of £4.50 (or near enough) after fees. I was one of the lucky ones that slipped through o2s upgrade net :).

Happy boy.

Looks like there really is demand for the new phone. Even my non techie friends have been talking about how they want one and shocked that i already got one.

Apple Store online is now saying 5-7 business days shipping instead of 2. O2 only has 32GB Black phones, CPW only have 32GB B/W models. The Apple retail stores only have 16GB Black and 32GB white...mostly

A lot of people want the phone, which i have to admit i find surprising given the relatively mild upgrade

I don't know if it has already been posted, but you can check availability from Apple retail stores here.

Thanks. I'm on holiday now, so won't be able to make it to an Apple Store until Sunday PM.

Probably will have a bigger chance of grabbing a gold 3GS than black or white.

I just received my iPhone 3GS (16GB Black) this morning. I ordered it from the online Apple Store on Tuesday (23rd)... it's now sitting on my desk at work waiting to be opened, although I'm still trying to justify in my head the price of it.

This will be my first iPhone, although I wish they were sold unlocked from Apple so I wouldn't have to cancel my Orange contract... Play.com prices are just ridiculous (although I'm still holding out hope that my order might be processed at 499.99 see: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/730347/)

The dilema continues. If I do decide to keep it, hopefully it's not plagued by all the 'issues' people have posted - cracks, yellow screens, wobbly buttons, etc.

I got by 16gb last night from the Apple store Milton Keynes, I would have liked a 32gb but they didn't have any and said there's not many about.

Loving the phone so far, sooo much better than my HTC running Windows Mobile (not that that is a surprise).

Could you tell me the problem which you were having with the iPhone? Sorry to be a pain. Its just that I bought the 3Gs on launch and i've noticed on three occasions when I try to wake the phone up from 'sleep', the screen is very very dim and you can hardly see the screen... you can just about make the 'slide to unlock' text. Then when I press the power button once, it comes on full brightness.

Should I be concerned?

I've had that on my 3G handset occassionally since upgrading to 3.0.

Anyone know if there's any disadvantages from buying online at www.mobiles.co.uk compared to going in-store to O2 or Carphone Warehouse? It's just that through Quidco you can get £60 back if you buy from there.

you have to love Orange's tactics for trying to keep their customers, by being derogatory towards the iphone with comments like

"i could get technology cheaper than what they're chargin'"

and on a side note, following that comment:

"you wait till november/december when orange get the iphone"
coming from a retentions call centre bod? anyone believe these comments?

I'm with Orange and wanted to wait until the iPhone comes out on Orange, but who knows when that might be. Rumours have been floating around since this time last year.

For those who have bought an O2 Pay & Go iPhone, is it possible to sign up to another tarriff from activation (eg. Your Country or Text Anytime) or do you have to wait a month to do it?

Thanks.

fed up of orange after they overcharged me by £120 over 3 months, after their mistake, granted they've refunded me now but thats not the point. New 18 month o2 contract for 3GS methinks

Advice please, 3G or 3GS for T-Mobile UK
Hope someone can pleae offer me some advice. I am currently locked into an 18 month contract with T-Mobile (25 Quid a month) as they are the only carrier in my area that can offer decent coverage. I was thinking of buying the new Iphone 3G-S as I can just about afford the 16GB model if I sell my new phone (Touch pro 2) that came with the contract.

1. The Apple Store/02 shop have both told me that on Pay and Go the handset must be locked to 02 otherwise it invalidates the warranty. I know the 3G-S has not been currently unlocked due to 3.0 and new hardware. But do you think it's likely that if it is cracked and unlocked will it give me the ability to do a factory reset to a locked state in case I needed to take it back under warranty for repair. Is this how the current 3G model works.

2. Also forgive my ignorance but do these turbo sim cards work ok or is a software exploit the way to go. It's just that a Turbo Sim is not affecting the hardware/operating system so surely that would be safer if I wanted to stay under warranty. Am I reading into this correct? I'm not too bothered on jailbreaking, just unlocking.

3. If I decided to keep the Iphone 3GS on Pay & Go with 02 what is the minimum topup that I would need to pay each month. Is it just £10 at the start and then nothing unless I decide to top up?

4. Is there a better 02 sim card deal that I could use with Pay and Go rather than the one advertised. It doesn't seem great value. I would looking for around 300 mins/300 texts and unlimited web - are there better sim deals that I could use.

5. I've seen a Factory unlocked 3G Iphone on ebay for around the same price as the 16GB locked 3GS. Do you think the offer listed below would be a good deal as I understand my Sim should work on now and after future upgrades. I really wanted the 3GS but other than the camera do you think I should go with the Original 3G and have the peace of mind.

Cheers in advance for any advice guys,

It is possible to change tariff straight from the box. At the moment, for £10 per month, I'm getting 300 texts, unlimited internet and £10 worth of calltime to use. Excellent deal!

Well I tried very hard to buy one today but there was no stock anywhere close to me. I have ordered it from Apple online, but the delivery ETA is July 7th... Looks like a loooong wait. :(

its free internet for one year isnt it?
02 told me it was £7 per month.

So £10 per month, that makes sense....

so do you HAVE to top up every month?
or can you let one top up last several months??

£10 worth of call time..... is that a good amount?

£10 per month PAY GO is the CHEAPEST WAY TO GET IPHONE ISNT IT?

sorry to ask all this, ive spent weeks trying to understand and i gave up....02 support is rubbish too....

so £10 plan is for a text plan right? so you can only buy texts right? but can you change plans? the pay go is complicated man..... or can you buy from whichever pay go plan you wish any time???

thanks.

I just activated my iPhone 3GS on Pay & Go ... got a text from O2 saying "You have an unlimited allowance with O2 Web and WiFi. This is due to expire on 28 Jul." What does that mean?! I thought it was 12 months.

Overall happy with the phone... but this yellow screen is a bit of a problem, but perhaps not worth the hassle of sending it back to Apple for a new one risking other issues with the replacement. I can live with it.

That means 28th July 2010

Jailbraking only affects software, so before you take it back to applestore just restore to legit version

2. Also forgive my ignorance but do these turbo sim cards work ok or is a software exploit the way to go. In the early days, i think this was a way of unlocking, but its just as safe or safer to jailbrakw/unlock

3. If I decided to keep the Iphone 3GS on Pay & Go with 02 what is the minimum topup that I would need to pay each month. Is it just £10 at the start and then nothing unless I decide to top up?
There isnt a minimum amount you have to top-up. You get unlimited data for 12months, but after this it costs £10 p/m for internet

4. Is there a better 02 sim card deal that I could use with Pay and Go rather than the one advertised. It doesn't seem great value. I would looking for around 300 mins/300 texts and unlimited web - are there better sim deals that I could use.The iPhone O2 PAYG sim is the best as you get free data for 12months. There is another sim called simplicity, that you may want to check out. This is a rolling monthly contract

Its not guaranteed that the 3GS will be unlockable. If you are definitely not going to use O2, then you best bet would be the factory unlocked 3G. if your iPhone is not factory unlocked, then it would have been unlocked manually by jailbraking, which will cause u headaches in the future when you want to get the SW upgrades apple release

I wouldn't worry about the 3GS as such. Basically the phone is faster, voice dialing, video and slightly better camera. If you can live without that then get the 3G

Dunno if i've done something or not but i'm having trouble activating my 3Gs

Picked it up from CPW on saturday about 17:00, is an upgrade from my 2G iPhone so guy had to get me a new usim for the 3Gs, said to put it in the handset and connect to itunes and restore as a new phone instead of to a backup from my 2G, and it'll activate "by 22:00"

Now i work for Orange so know the time for a sim swap is actually up to 24hrs but its now nearer 48hrs and all i'm getting on my 3Gs is a message saying "waiting for activation - this may take some time"

Am i missing a step?
