Difference is power users are not lazy and clueless. Point of using compression is to save space and time. Nobody uses zip anymore for the last decade or so except for the lazy and clueless because there are much more efficient archivers. It's like the horse drawn carriage. It was common at one time and you might find a few who still swear by it but it's a relic of the past much like iOS was in 2011.

Or that your special group loves to put too much effort into things that hardly matter.

Most typical uses of it aren't in it as much for compression as it's mainly used to put a number of files into one to simplify sharing something. Whatever compression levels and speeds might be, it doesn't have much relation to what's actually being used and what's popular and the typical use case. If you are talking about the use of compression utilities to save space and time on something like a phone then you are talking about a subgroup of people who might care about that that would likely fit more into that "hardly nobody" categorization.

The power to do whatever you want instead of letting a company like Apple limit what you can do.

You're simply apologizing for lack of professional tools like 7z and rar archivers on iOS. A phone is a pocket computer much like a laptop is a portable desktop computer. That's like claiming desktop tools shouldn't be on laptops since laptops are more portable. Apology group has zero significance in the real world.

I'm just reiterating that your "hardly anybody" comment is far from reality, while you are deflecting it to be about something else.

I install addons for Kodi from zip files, unless you know where the repositories are, you don't have much choice.
MAME roms run from zip.

Granted, neither example needs extracting but there must be a reason the developer uses zip in these cases.

I must admit, I'm pretty damn lazy :)

I can probably tell you why they use what they do:

It works.

Yes it's a pocket computer but not in same relationship as laptop to desktop

Well this thread as I thought turned into a pissing contest as usual. 1st world problems baby.

Just to not be off topic I will say that android does make certain tasks easier, but overall i prefer IOS.

Most typical users and places online will still use zip, so if "hardly anybody" means a good majority, then I guess you would be right.
What makes you think rar and 7zi aren't used?Majority of the files on the Intenret I downloaded were all rar

You can be more productive on Android than iOS because

1)You dont need iTunes to transfer stuff. You can transfer LITERALLY any file you want and then use the built in File Manager to see exactly where you stored it.

2)The Split View in Android N does NOT need specific optimisation like it does on iOS.Almost all the apps on the Play Store work splendidly because of they myriad resolutions Android runs on and Android N is superior to iOS in this regard.Android N also enables split view on PHONES

3)Android is compatible with waay many file formats compared to iOS.iOS still cannot open tar,7zip and rar files

4)Android keeps stuff running in the background. On iOS when I download something via an app and normally use my phone most of the time the download is stopped in the background. The app needs to be running to download it

5)The MOST important productivity feature IMO.On Android I can enable number key on keyboard so I dont need to keep switching which hugely increase typing speed

Do you really cd/location/of/file then tar -xvf your file on your phone? I'm pretty hard core but...

You are right about those but as long as ios has imessage and facetime built in default plus security im an IOS guy.

EDIT: There was one poster that mentioned it would be difficult to attach 3 pdfs from different people into one new message. The poster obviously does not realize I can do that easily with outlook for IOS.

What makes you think that what I said actually stated or even just implied that other compression formats aren't used?

yea i was mistaken, outlook does pull attachments from previous messages very nicely. i was under the impression you had to save it to a cloud storage provider first. outlook is fantastic (outlook has security ramifactions that the stock mail doesnt have too though, ms servers are involved - i use it regardless though)

I was just getting bent out of shape because people act as if android has no advantages. it is very good at letting you do things your own way. regardless i am on ios too for other reasons

Facetime is replaced by Skype pretty easily.iMessag, though I agree.Overall though Android has the edge in productivity if only for the file manager

I dont have preference to wither OS.I own both and each have their shortcomings but lately Apple has started to disappoint me with lack of proper innovation. On a 10 inch iPad screen we are still stuck to a 4X5 icon gird with extra space being wasted everywhere

What makes you think that what I said actually stated or even just implied that other compression formats aren't used?

You said zip was used by most people which makes rar and 7zip the minority as your post implies

Since car analogies are so popular ;) it's kind of like having a spoiler on a commuter car.

Which says nothing about those compression formats not being used, as your post not just implied but actually stated.

It actually shows how slow apple is to fix some of their stock apps. The stock mail app is a JOKE.

Of course there are other video services, but like I mentioned facetime is the default so its much easier to use then anything else. I dont know about other people but trying to get my parents to use skype is a nightmare. Facetime "just works".

Yeah I used to use Skype with my folks but the sound used to drop out or you'd lose video and it got very frustrating at times. They have since bought iPads and iPhone and the controls are so simple it makes it a trouble free experience now. I still use Skype at work but for personal use it is FaceTime every time. It just works lol.

Why not if local unix shell environment is what someone prefers like for scripting and handling batch files with exclusions? I still use dig from command line for troubleshooting DNS issues.

Been using Skype forever on smartphones of all platforms. Never had any issues as long as both parties have good data connection.
