Yes. Almost every year I do the same thing and I get my device on launch day.

Before the store goes down, I've got my order saved as a favorite and carrier information saved in the Apple Store app. With Apple Pay, I verify information is correct in both the app and iOS settings.

I thought about the iPhone Upgrade Program but figured that might complicate things. I want the ordering process to be as simple as possible.

I set an alarm for 5 minutes prior to preorder time to wake up. At preorder time I do the following:
Open Apple Store app, force close app if store still down, repeat.

When I finally make it in, favorites loads up and I spam Yes through everything until I get to payment, then I use Apple Pay. I'm usually back in bed within 10 minutes after preorder time.

NEVER GO THROUGH THE CARRIER! The one time I did with AT&T, my order details were all screwed up and I thought my phone would get delayed. With AT&T, I ordered within 5 minutes after preorder and didn't get confirmation until 8 hours later. Their system was all jacked up.

Always go through Apple if you can. I've also heard that Apple orders get "some" priority over carrier orders.

I know this is all useless now but I plan to do the exact same thing next year when my wife's iPhone is due for an upgrade.
Lesson learned. Have a good day

I ordered 11 minutes after they went on sale and wont get a phone until October. Is that normal? Are others seeing this also?

Order went in at 3:11 eastern time. Black, 7+ 128. Order ships 2-3 weeks, arrives October 4-10.

New to thread, sorry if this is repeated earlier.
From past years, not normal however stories have said pre-orders for 7 have far exceeded demand. Jet Black and Matte Black on the 7+ are the highest demand. If you had other models, you will get at launch likely. It appears that Jet Black for the 7+ few are seeing movement yet. I got my order completed 10 mins past and on the Oct 4-10th group. Still hopeful, but likely wont see this for another 2 weeks.

Thanks, I figured as much. I don't know what my flight my phone is on then!

It's typically pretty close. It just could depend on the airport's congestion, etc.

For example, my UPS tracking for leaving Incheon - departure scan was 10:04 pm local time, but the flight left at 10:30 pm local time.

I do basically the same thing and usually don't worry about it all that much because it is not critical that I get it on "Launch Day", these are strictly tools for me, not toys.

Well, this time was different and it did NOT work, I got my confirmation at 15 after and my order pushed to 9/27-9/29 which is a reason to cancel since I was needing to get this before I go into the backcountry for a month long magazine assignment on 9/28. I did manage to get the shipping date expedited and the dates now read 9/20-9/22.

I'll have to cancel if I don't see signs of movement by next Monday, I can not be testing a tool just hours before I go mission critical and I don't really need to have a phone sitting around unused for a month.

After using the brand professionally since 92, I'm just sick of this BS with Apple, I even know people who work in various departments there and they said, "Yeah man, just get on right way and you will get it before your trip no problem."

Both of my orders are now showing up on UPS tracking (search by reference using phone #, order # search never worked for me).

128GB 7 Gold
256GB 7 Silver

Both are in Shanghai, both with origin scans (no departures mentioned). Both showing estimated delivery of Friday (not gloating, I promise :) )

I had assumed all this time, because these were more "standard" colors, that these were already stateside, but I guess I was wrong.

Edit: I should mention that one of them showed up in tracking sometime overnight (I first saw it this morning) and the other showed up about a half hour ago.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I've ordered iphones for several years on pre order day and always had at least an hour or so to be sure I could get it on release day. I think Apple really just didn't make enough of the Black 7+ models.

Just realized: since I work RIGHT next to the local international airport, I'll be able to see the UPS plane landing with my phone. LOL

Wish I knew someone who worked at the airport or UPS...

It's not a shipping constraint. They can wait until Thursday to ship and STILL make it on time for launch day. I've had it happen to me more than once.

Just be happy it shows when you track by reference even though you have a Sept 26th estimated date. That is a very good sign.
Yea, I know, I was happy when I saw that.

On the side of the notification it says it is going to Georgia. I am assuming that is a hub and UPS doesn't know where this phone is going yet?

Cancelled my Jet Black with November shipping and went with matte black with October 6-12 shipping. Jet Black was an impulse, and I always use a case with a credit card holder so I'd never really see it.

How did you get your tracking number without the reference??

Has anyone that has looked up their order on UPS gotten a result, but the full tracking # isn't revealed? Just the last 4 digits? No real details either, just the last location and scheduled delivery.

To get your full tracking #, just right click on the webpage, click on view page source then do a find with the last 4 digits. you will find a number of lines, but eventually the set of numbers starting with 1Z will be your full tracking # . Hope this helps
