No offense, but how the hell does a mobile phone need 256GB of storage?

Honestly, unless you're a freelance photographer on a budget that can't afford real photography equipment, I see no reason for this.

And, a 256GB iPhone 7+ would cost well over US $1,000. And that would be beyond ridiculous.

I think 4K footage takes up a lot of space (we are talking over 300mb a minute) then there's Live Photos, Apple Music downloads and apps. I think Apple know this and that's why they have done it on the iPad Pro. Yes it probably will cost around $1000 but if people are willing to pay it, plus people have been wanting more storage in the iPhone for a while.

I'm hoping for a decent release, love my 6S but I'd love for Apple to release a phone I couldn't ignore:

- Higher resolution, AMOLED display.
- Officially waterproof, IP68 certified.
- Wireless charging that's universally qi compatible.
- Storage jumping to 32/128/256 options.
- Better camera for low-light and 60fps 4K video support.
- Larger battery.
- Reduced bezels, even at the expense of a thinness.

Any 4 of those and I'm set. Yes I'm describing a lot of what makes the S7 Edge great, but I love iOS - I want Apple to start throwing punches in the hardware department again. The 6S is a great phone, but it's starting to feel like the only reason I'm not looking at the competitors seriously is that I'm tied heavily into the iCloud services department.

AMOLED no not this year, Apple is rumoured to be working on OLED for the iPhone 8 or even the 7S, along with wireless charging.

Waterproof maybe but I'm not expecting it
storage jump yes probably 256GB like the iPad Pro
better camera is rumoured with dual camera but is only rumoured for the iPhone 7 Plus and or the iPhone 7 Pro.
Larger battery maybe but not much bigger
reduced bezels no because Apple prefer thinness

From what we have seen so far the biggest upgrade is likely to be in the camera, also don't forget that this year is a number model and so it's more likely to be a external update rather than focused on features.

The 6s is pretty much water resistant, as there is a youtube video showing the phone to be dunked in water for one hour. I wouldn't expect less from the iPhone 7.

It's a shame because with Qi accessories becoming more accessible and with Samsung really raising the bar for phone hardware, having Apple wait another year for a substantial feature update is disappointing.

One big killer for me is the screen, and whilst my 6S has a decent display, I'd love to see a jump in tech sooner rather than later.

What I've said isn't 100% real, I'm only going off rumours and Apple's own behaviour from previous releases. I could be wrong and Apple could surprise everyone with an OLED display this year along with waterproofing and wireless charging. the iPhone 6S was a substantial S model when compared with previous S models, so maybe Apple up the game further with the iPhone 7, we will have to wait until September to find out. There is one thing I never do and that's count Apple out because while Samsung and other companies will put a feature into a phone it's usually Apple who takes their time to perfect a feature.

This is true, there very well may be water proofing in the iPhone 7. Maybe this is one of the reasons why there will be no headphone jack.

I don't think so, the iphone 6s is water resistant, (according to the video) and has a headphone jack (and so is the galaxy s7). So I don't think that is the reason.

Except that Samsung abandoned the PenTile matrix about 3 years ago.
Wrong.

Every Samsung OLED display, except your, uses a PenTile matrix. They just try to hide it using an insanely high resolution... But still a poor PenTile matrix.

Still not the one you were talking about. You said that there was a green hue? If you look at the photo you posted, you'll see that it has an even level of red, blue and green, making a perfect white, as well as perfectly accurate colours all around. You clearly haven't seen a Samsung display produced in the last 3 years.

You clearly don't understand how it works.

This is my S6...

What if they surprise us and give us 64/128/256 storage options
I'm hoping they realize that another year with 16 will them hard marketing-wise. But I'm pretty sure they'll go for the next best thing in terms of upselling. But for many people 32 will already be more than enough, so they'll take a hit there in terms of their average selling price. Would love to see figures on that. If they start with 64, the amount of people paying base price + 100 will be negligible.

Fine, I take back what I said about you not seeing the new Samsung screens.

I have a Galaxy, I do understand how it works. I just still don't know what you mean when you said the screen was 'poor'.

I was thinking about it the other day.. Apple is all about giving the customer the best experience right?

All are getting much larger and larger in size. So even the non power users will start running into space issues. That will cause the average joe to experience difficulties and start complaining about space issues. I know they're all about selling more capacity but 16gb is now the new 8gb.

Never said the screen is poor !
S6 and S7 screens are great.
The PenTile matrix is a poor solution in my opinion. And I'm scared about the drawbacks of OLED technology.

I told myself that the day my father complains about his iPhone storage (he's a light user) is the day that 16GB is no longer an acceptable base. That day was just a couple of weeks ago. It's time.

I'm calling 32 and 128GB configurations for the 7 with the possibility of a third 256 model.

The price of the SE has led me to believe that Apple is starting to go cheap. I think we might be seeing a starting price of as low as about $499 with the next set of iPhones.

I wouldn't bank on that, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be the flagship iPhones.

Yep that's my whole point. When the "average joe" starts feeling the pinch on the 16gb capacity, it has to be upped.

Still, I thought that Apple would be generous to offer the SE at $499, and they made it $399. If they repeat that process, the 7 could have a reasonable price.

Plus, it makes sense. A lot, and I mean a lot of people are held back from buying the iPhone because of the price. It could result in more profit by reducing the price.

And it also results in more warranty, more service and more load on apple infrastructure. They have carefully figured this out.

Such a short sighted comment based on your own needs. My photo library is 130gb and counting - I still have to add all my old videos taken with camcorders. And no I'm not a proff photographer.

If you have kids/family, take a lot of photos and videos, and have also imported old photos/videos from cameras, camcorders, old phones etc, you could quite easily have a photo library thats 100-150gb+ so your forced to use the optimise option which means having to wait for every photo/video to load. You also can't view your media if you don't have a internet connection. I'd love to store my entire photo library natively, so everything loads instantly.

This is not even taking into account around 20gbs of music, a 6.6gb tomtom app, and multiple tv shows and films purchased on iTunes which I can't currently download even on a 128gb device.

Put simply, a 256gb version would mean all of the above is possible. I appreciate not many people will need it, but to suggest it's ridiculous just because you can't see any need for it is itself ridiculous.
