What is so good about FaceTime? I'm not asking to be rude :) But for me it works so-so more often than not, with delay on voice calls, broken connection on video chat, etc., both on wifi and cell data. I've consistently had way better results with Skype. I use a 6+ and 2015 MBP.

iMessage has always also been so-so for me. Incoming messages seem to pop up on the Mac whenever they feel like it, not seldom with a delay of several days. Sometimes messages are simply lost. It's been very unreliable in general, so personally I have no problem with switching to SMS/MMS alongside FB Messenger/WhatsApp etc., now that I go over to Android with the Note 7.

I agree that basic texts are just as good, sometimes more reliable, than Messages; but FaceTime is much more reliable for me, at least in the past year (it was flaky in the past). I often have dropped calls with Skype, connection problems etc.; but I don't remember the last time I couldn't connect to FaceTime or had a call drop out in the middle, even when I'm not on WiFi. IMO Apple has done an excellent job with FaceTime, similar to the improvements with Maps (a much better job than they've done with some other things, to be fair). The other thing I like about FaceTime is that it's just always on, there's nothing to think about, and it's as simple as making a phone call - no app to install, no status to update, no signing in and signing out. In my Contacts app, I can easily see if someone has FaceTime installed (and if not, I just make a regular phone call, rather than go through the hassle of finding out whether they use Skype and asking them to sign in, etc.).

I constantly have trouble with FaceTime recognizing my THunderbolt display camera. I don't know how to solve it.

I rarely ever have that trouble with Skype. Also, Skype is cross platform. Huge advantage. Not everyone owns Macs or iPhones.

The iPhone has much better scratch resistance comparatively, that's a scientific fact.

My iPhone has no scratches whatsoever and has 2 years. You must be careless and have your iPhone in the sand or granite, you forget to tell that.

If I looked at my 6s plus wrong the metal back would scratch or scuff, I wouldn't dream of even taking it out of the box without a full body skin. With my Note 5 it's been naked for the better part of a year, gets abused and not a single blemish on it. The front screen on both are durable and I haven't had an issue with either, it's the back where there is a marked difference. Between the scratch resistance and wireless charging I'm very hesitant to ever use a metal backed phone again.

I just cancelled my order of 2 Note 7's in large part due to the poor scratch resistance compared to the Note 5. I'll wait and see what other testing is done, but that one video is pretty straight forward and leaves little to the imagination. It's a shame if the IP7 had the same flaws.

Metal is metal, it scratches, can't find fault in Apple, they do good anodization jobs and the sand blast is apropriate.

Your Samsung is glass, it won't scratch an easily, but it will break much more easily.

Probably true, but I'm not concerned with drops. My issue is just day to day scratches so find glass much more valuable. But a drop that shatters glass, especially GG5, would also put a nice dent on the iPhone. Certainly either screen would have similar results so we are only talking about 50% of the phone, and the unimportant 50% at that.

This has me interested. Can cover the whole phone.

I'm having trouble deciding. I wanted the note 7 but think I'm going to wait and see what iphone 7 has to offer. Just in case apple has some surprises. Really interested in the new google(nexus) phone. Hoping its more than the htc marlin. Hopefully they will have a better design.

just too much to change over
Yeah it's not as bad as you think, I switched a back and forward all the time. Note 5 is my main, because I love the camera and the screen. Software is a bit laggy after I updated to Marshmallow.

Reviewer looks like a methed out ex boy band, but the product looks interesting. I'm going to go ahead and buy one and see how it works.

I been looking in to similar liquid SPs. I would be careful about putting that on a display like the Note 7. The digitizer is different than on regular displays. I've yet to find any liquid SP seller that specifically mentions any phone from the Note line. I've seen them advertise that it works for the S6 & S7 edge, but nothing about Notes. I could be 100% wrong though. But also factor in that the tip of the Note 7's S-Pen is pretty fine.

I am really, really considering a note 7 after playing around with one in the Samsung store yesterday. I am one of those people who is fully integrated in to the Apple ecosystem. I've had an iphone since the original in 2007 and the only flagship I haven't owned is the 4S..... That being said I recently gave my iPhone 6S Plus to my little sister for her birthday and my plan was to wait for the 7.... but now I am thinking of playing around with the note for a year and then get the 10th anniversary iphone.

I'm not concerned about apps I think I can get most of the apps I have on iOS with perhaps a few alternatives, I might spend $20 max in google play so no big deal there

for Photos I could just periodically upload photos from the Note to my Mac photos app and they will be in icloud

contacts i just moved over to Google via vcard as I have a gmail account

Facetime and siri I dont really use ever so no issues there

Will have to stop using my Apple Watch but no big deal there

iMessages on the other hand is the one that is really giving me pause as silly as that seems. I have a few group chats with friends and 99% of the people I know use iPhones so its seamless, very few people i know use whatsapp and nobody I know uses hangouts.

Anyhow I am still debating and its a really tough decision. Ideally I would be able to buy a Note 7 running iOS :D but thats not going to happen so....

Not silly really as many are in the same boat

My two mates have just bought iPhones who I text along and my girlfriend is an iPhone user so the people I text are all on iPhones.

The new features on Apple Watch 3.0 are going to be very good

I was in a very similar situation and decided to go with the Note, so far I have no regrets. The imessage thing I was worried about too, but the couple groups I am in we just started a new group chat and it is working fine.

There are so many things I am enjoying about the Note that this is the first android phone I have tried that I don't really miss my iPhone. Every other time I have attempted to switch I have immediately had some regrets and missed certain things, not this time though.

I may do the same as you and move back to the iPhone next year, but I am confident I am going to really enjoy my year with the Note.

After reading this article its given me a little bit of pause. Is this something that Samsung has addressed via software update in the past?

http://www.xda-developers.com/with-...delivers-embarrassing-real-world-performance/

IMO it doesn't affect you in reality, other than being an annoyance. We put way too much emphasis on saving a millisecond opening an app, but in reality as human beings waste an inordinate amount of time in our lives. When that few milliseconds makes a difference in my life I'll start paying attention to those videos, hell the time you spent watching that video probably makes up for the lifetime of milliseconds of lag your note 7 will give you. I could say you waste milliseconds trying to use a 6s+ one handed because it's so much larger, or that you waste milliseconds because you can't put windows side by side in iOS. Or that you waste milliseconds because you can't scroll through and perform actions with widgets on iOS. But at the end of the day does it really matter?

I'm looking at all these reviews of the Note 7, and I'm like we will have to wait til 2030 for Apple to get these features. This peace meal approach with features is simply not cool. I don't see any blockbuster software feature that they can present that will make me stay.. If you get the regular iphone 7 then you wont even get the new dual lenses, so what the hell would be the point? Apple pencil support and split view like the ipad will be the only reason I will stay. But it looks like they probably wont have that...

People say that now but they will always find an excuse to switch back to the iPhone once it comes out. Happens every year

True to an extent. Typically being deeply integrated with Apple services and not wanting to migrate away.
