Depends if you can switch easily. I'm not sure I fully understand people who can switch so quickly between iPhone and Android. I'd have to find alternative apps for lots of the stuff I do, I wouldn't have access to my iCloud Photo Library which stores absolutely all of my photos, nothing would sync with my Mac (without third party apps, I'm sure). It just doesn't seem practical.

That said, I'm likely holding on to my iPhone 6 Plus for another year as I really want to wait and see what Apple do next year with the fabled iPhone 8. Looking forward to that one...

I was in the same boat... but there have been plenty of apps from the App Store that you can find on Android if not alternatives. Devs simply can't ignore the market Android provides... although the App Store brings in more revenue compared to Google Play Store still there's plenty of alternatives available.

Having a store doesn't mean anything. Google gives Nexus devices tremendous support with ease of mind device replacements. They don't have a chain of Nexus stores. Amazon has zero stores, yet they offer off the charts support. Could Samsung do better than BB Experience shops? Sure. Do they need to? No.

I think you're downplaying the importance of after sales support both brick and mortar as well as over the phone/online. And I'm talking about Samsung, not Google. And no I don't think a kiosk in a bb is good enough. Or having to go to a carrier store. Basically having to go third party whereas Apple offers first party support. It's a big reason why Apple has maintained their position, and also why Samsung is trying to establish the same. But it's not there yet. Does Samsung need to? They seem to think so by them trying to expand their stores.

Amazon? Not sure how they're related at all. I agree as a marketplace retailer they've been good to me. They're not in the same league as an apple or even Samsung in actual overall electronics manufacturing retail support.

Yeah maybe for someone completely new to smartphones to get everything set up. But you can do all that right at the carrier as well. Same with warranty and insurance issues. I get that some consumers like their hands held, and Apple is good for that.

Hmm. I did not know that. This is interesting. Can the same be said for the opposite direction?
If you mean importing everything from google photos into iCloud, no it's not that easy. What I do is just every couple of weeks I take the photos taken with my android phones and transfer them into the photos app on my mac. Is simple on phones with sd cards, I just drag and drop. On phones without I have an otg sd card adapter and first transfer the photos from my phone to the card, then from the card to my mac.

Your entire post.....

"I see Samsung pushing the envelope more than many. The most obvious example of this is the screen to body ratio. Having a larger screen in a smaller phone means a big deal to me. Compared to what, the 6s plus? The 6s plus is a JOKE in terms of screen to body ratio.

I do see other companies pushing the envelope. I applaud LG and Motorola for modular addons, they may flop but I appreciate their introduction of new ideas. But Apple? No they aren't necessarily behind in most things such as camera and horsepower, but in other things they are woefully behind such as wireless charging, screen to body ratio, etc. Just the fact that they bank on you staying in the ecosystem is a hindrance.

But in essence I don't disagree with you. The Note 7 isn't that much of an upgrade over the Note 5, unless you need those new features. For me ip68, memory card, much better spen, always on screen are worthy upgrades and things the iPhone won't have. What's the iPhone getting? New antenna lines, the dual camera will be nice, maybe 1gb more ram? I feel bad for Apple users, spending $1000 for so little."

Only references to anything other than antenna lines and RAM are bolded. Only the second is referring to the 7.

Dude, its not a big thing - you're just positioning the upgrade in a way that makes it look bad while the Note 7 looks great. You use your preference as additional shield for it, but come on. Just be honest. You want to have a serious, mature conversation?

I'm really looking forward to the lightning EarPods, the rumored better bluetooth wireless chip and what that can do to enhance all the wireless devices I connect to, rumored water resistance and the dual camera - which I know virtually nothing about, but depending on how they use it, it seems like there are lots of cool things it could bring to mobile picture taking. Not as big an upgrade as the 6 to 6S IMO, but those with a new color are enough to get me....though I'm an early adopter and love the latest and greatest.

To me, the Note 7 isn't really that much bigger an upgrade from the Note 5 - but the new design, HDR support, better camera and software tweaks are definitely cool. And I can understand the improved water resistance and re-addition of removable storage could be enough for some to switch. Again, I probably would've from a Note 5 and definitely will from a GS7 Edge/OnePlus 3. I just don't see that as objectively a better update.

TL;DR - both phones are gonna be awesome. Have fun with whatever you get.

I definitely think there will by a lot of hype and pressure on the 10th anniversary iPhone, but honestly if they've been working on these things, they've been doing so for many years. Lots of work in the making.

The whole headphone thing is gonna be so overblown and by the time the 2017 iPhone comes out it will be forgotten. Not sure why there is reason to be upset about getting rid of an outdated port. Improve the bluetooth capabilities, GIVE the customer great sounding lightning EarPods and offer an adapter for those who have something different they want to continue using.

Sometimes to drive adoption of newer, better things you have to phase out the old. Where's the uproar over needing an entirely different VR now that the Note 7 has USB C? There shouldn't be any because USB C is vastly superior to micro USB and things need to progress. Folks can bite the bullet and switch over/buy an adapter for things that are that important to them.
There is no uproar because Samsung provides and adapter IN THE BOX and ppl won't have to shell out money to get an adapter ( I doubt Apple will include the adapter in the box but I'm hopeful as I will be getting the ip7 anyways!)

Yup. Thought it would be a pain going the other way. Probably gonna stick with my iPhone. I'm mostly just looking for something to spice things up as I'm pretty sure I'm keeping my 6 Plus for a third year.

There is no uproar because USB-c is the future of the port and all phone manufacturers will be going in that direction.

That's the problem with Apple removing the headphone jack, it would be one thing if they removed it and replaced it with the next version of the headphone jack that would soon be supported by everyone. But they're not, they're just removing it.

I'm not a fan of the "edge thing" but, yeah, I would go with the galaxy... Can I get the 5 instead?

Want another short & sweet review like The Verge? Here's another one.

^ Hey, another Filipino guy reviewer! Mabuhay! Musta, pre? After Josh Vergara and John Velasco, we got Chris Velazco of Engadget in the Pinoy phone reviewer club.

I used to go Engadget and get hundreds of likes for my comments. Just stopped going on there because the Apple hatred is everywhere. Too much hatred for anything or anyone is not healthy for anybody.

Not into Marques Brownlee or SoldierKnowsBest. Not a racist thing if you see my Cash Money and Kanye posts. I love black people, their influence on music, and have black friends. MKBHD and SKB just don't appeal to me when they review gadgets. I do like PhoneBuff, Blunty for being a pr*ck on his comments, and Metal Jesus for video games.

Okay, so everyone from Michael Fisher, Josh Vergara, Jaime Rivera, Dan Siefert, and Chris Velazco is giving it a big thumbs up? I expect Erica Griffin and PhoneDog to rave about it too. I saw views for Michael Fisher's Note7 review go up from 20K to 490K in less than a day. I told ya, he's a charming mfer! Great voice. Witty sense of humor. Easy on the eyes for the women since he looks like Tony Stark.

Weaker external speaker is the only issue I can't correct. Battery life isn't an issue either. Set it to 1080p. Done. Why hesitate? This is the best of the best. Not just the best smartphone Samsung ever made or the best phablet out now. The best of the best in 2016, period! iPhone 7 is fighting at best for a bronze medal. How about a Nexus? Vanilla Android when you can't theme it as easily? Boring!

I don't even love Samsung and it is not even a question or contest to me which is better between Note7 v iPhone 7. Like asking me who will win between Godzilla v Bambi or Hillary v Trump? I doubt iPhone 8 will catchup to Samsung either once foldable displays are out next year. That's how far Apple got left in the dust...

2016 Olympic winners
Gold - Samsung Galaxy Note7
Silver - Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Bronze contenders -
Apple iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
Samsung Galaxy S7
HTC Marlin
HTC 10
LG V20

Sony Xperia X Performance
Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro
ZTE Axon 7

Well the future of headphones is wireless. I know it will take wireless a while to catch up to wired quality, but it will happen. Although personally Ive been satisfied with the quality of the sound and don't miss wires in the least.

Same. I have Phiaton's Bluetooth In-Ear headphones.. been upgrading to them for years for outside use and Parrot Ziks for inside use, I'm so accustomed to using wireless headphones and although wired has better quality it trumps that due to the convenience of not having dangling wires.

Apple is including the new EarPods. Also, there are many alternatives to wired headphones. But I had forgotten Samsung will include the adapter.

At any rate - neither should be a big deal. Move forward. That's the idea.

I personally love my Samsung Level U bluetooth earphones. They work and sound great. I won't miss the headphone jack personally, but I can understand why people aren't ready yet.

Losing the headphone jack is not the same as USB C not plugging into a USB-A virtual reality accessory.

I got those earphones for free on a Samsung pay promo and I like them a lot, use them mainly with my home PC or with the gear VR. I've been quite happy with my Jaybird's as well. But I'm not an audiophile, honestly I think the entire audiophile thing is kind of BS, like the wine tasters who are secretly being given cheap wine, yet they say it's the greatest vintage ever.

But in any case, for the hardcore who absolutely need wires there will be USB C and lightning headphones. Yeah I feel bad if they have to use an adapter, but these things change, even the lighting adapter isn't the original one.
