I mostly use wireless audio too, I have my jaybirds and Bluetooth in my car. I'm not an audio file and sound fine to me, and connection is strong, I don't get any clipping when I move around.

But I like having a pair of regular buds I can start using when my battery dies, I like they work with any phone, tablet, or computer I have.

There is also the learning factor, my son has a pair of wired headphones he's been using for a couple of years. He uses them with his ipho e and iPad, the Playstation, and the computer. I gave him my old jaybirds when I got the X2's and he never uses them, probably because if he switch from one device to another he has to go into settings and pair them with the new device, he's never sure how much battery he has, and they don't work well with the computer and playstation. I gave my wife the free beats i got when she bought me my macbook, and she loves them, but always has problems using them with other devices because of having to repair too, so she only uses them with her iPhone. The wired ones are easy, just unplug here and plug there.

So it's because of that, and that they're not going with a universal standard but instead lightning that I think they're making a mistake. I'll adapt fairly easily, though it'll suck having to look for my "iphone" ear buds when I need them instead of just grabbing a pair I have lying around, but others such as my wife and kids will have more problems. I just don't see the advantage of removing them, the space saved in miniscule, and all these connections can co-exist, currently my iPhone has bluetooth, headphone jack, and lightning adapter. Don't see the point in removing it.

I empathize with those that regularly use or prefer wired headphones--definitely becomes more inconvenient with the new iPhone as you'll need to keep a dongle handy and it's screaming to get lost if you use the headphones with multiple devices since you'll constantly be putting it on/taking it off. I also personally only use bluetooth headphones--have a couple different pairs (one fitness ready that I've used for almost 2 years and another set of over the ear cans) and can't recall the last time I plugged in headphones. It is also getting easier to use the same headphones with multiple devices---they just need to have the latest BT profile (4.2 I believe). My larger, over the ear style can be paired to multiple devices and automatically switch between those devices depending on the source of the audio---no need to manual disconnect then reconnect. And both sets weren't very expensive ($80 and $50 respectively).

I agree that there doesn't seem to be an advantage to the user (maybe space for a stereo speakers on the bottom--will certainly be interesting to see how Apple spins it ;)) but I also think Apple doesn't need a reason. They will do what they want and specifically try to use their influence to shove the industry in a particular direction. The headphone jack is roughly 100 year old tech and progression to a better solution has been moving pretty damn slow. I think this is their attempt to change the industry, however painful it might initially be. People went nuts when Apple first decided to not embrace blu-ray and then later when they ditched the optical drive altogether but after a short while, nobody cared. Right or wrong, I'm sure that's their intention with this change as well. Rip the bandage off and deal with the pain and hope that ultimately, people adopt the change and move on. Apple clearly wants people to embrace 'wireless' for as much as possible and this is just another step in that direction.

I'm also quite certain there is also a deep rooted financial motivation on their part--just don't like it when they aren't up front about it and treat us like morons with some sort of B.S. marketing spin so I'm quite curious to see how their going to explain this one.

I think they'll explain it just as you've described, they want to push the industry toward wireless (think about their wireless keyboards, mouse, etc.).

I forgot where I read it, but there's a rumor that says the second speaker grill on the new iPhone may not even be for a second speaker. I'd be shocked if that's true. A great way to explain away the headphone jack is to say it now gives you dual speakers -- something all OEMs should be doing.

Yup---having a dummy speaker grill where the headphone jack used to be will be tough to explain.

And again, I don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak since I don't use wired headphones and don't really care one way or the other but I've also heard discussions about other potential benefits of using the lightning port for headphones. Outside of improved audio quality, since the headphone would be connect to a data port, the possibilty to use in ear sensors for far more efficient health tracking is one possibility.

I really did want the iPhone 7. I was 90% sure a month ago I was going iPhone 7. But then the Note7 was announced and got intrigued by the potential of VR. I think iPhone 7 would still be a great option but I wanted something better from a company that thinks BIG.

I was thinking the exact same thing but the Note 7 is too much of a technical marvel to miss out on. I am of course somewhat hopeful that Apple will announce something exciting in September and that there are more to the rumors circulating out there. Until then, I'm going to shut off iMessage, Facetime, and enjoy what the Note has to offer.

sound like a person who bought a car that was lemon. but doesn't want to trade in for a better model. due to the amount of cash he put into it...new engine, transmission, clutch. but still refuses to get that better model. i feel you:(

As others have said, it's likely not as daunting as you think. What can help is migrating some of your Apple services to platform flexible third party solutions so that in the future, it's much easier to switch back and forth. For exampe, Google account for mail, contacts, calendar. You can also use it to sync data on Chrome browser across all platforms. Use an app like Google Keep for notes, Wunderlist for tasks, Google Photos for well, photos ;), Duo for video calling.

I'm heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem with my hardware but use mostly 3rd party platform agnostic solutions (mostly Google with some Microsoft and other 3rd party solutions) on all of my gear--lets me switch to other hardware platforms without my difficulty.

I've been in the Apple world for a long time, had every iphone except the 3G and now the SE, and I just preordered a note 7.

For me when the iphone 6 Plus came out I was excited to get a big screen finally, but the bezels were horrible. I hoped they would slightly tweak them on the S model, but having been around a while I didn't hold my breath. To see that all the rumors are pointing to the same physical design on the iPhone 7 was pretty much the nail in the coffin for this year. Comparing the 6s Plus form factor to the Note 7 is not even close and as much as I love iOS it just won't keep me for this year.

If for some reason apple pulls out some surprises with the iPhone 7 I may ditch the Note and go back to iPhone, otherwise I plan to spend a year really digging into and enjoying android on the Note and I'll reassess with the supposed anniversary super iPhone next year.

I am also heavily invested in apple ecosystem and hardware like macbook/ipad/icloud and had been an iphone guy from the 4s but after switching to very slim bezel android phone i just can't go back. The good part is that most of apple services can be accessed on android also.

As a 6s plus owner who has gone through two phones both COVERED in micro scratches after minimal use? That? Doesn't scare me one bit...

This iPhone has been the least scratch resistant of all the models I've owned...

The iPhone has much better scratch resistance comparatively, that's a scientific fact.

My iPhone has no scratches whatsoever and has 2 years. You must be careless and have your iPhone in the sand or granite, you forget to tell that.

Out of all the iPhones I've had only my 6 had a scratch on it and I have no idea how, must have been a bit of grit or something in my pants pocket one time.

My point is, even all the android phones I've had I barely come across scratches on the screens.

I'd agree with this. I'm OCD careful with my phones but my 6 is the first to have got scratched. The 3G and 4 in comparison were indestructible.

I used my 4 without a case and in the 3 years I had it the front and back were still mint condition when I sold it, it was unbelievable.

EDIT: My 3G on the other hand looked a mess on the plastic!

This was all over my feeds this morning, it seems GG5 is less scratch resistant than GG4. If Apple uses GG5 in the 7 which everybody expects the screen protector folks are going to have a booming couple of years.

Did you have any Gg5 phone? No!

This test shows how does it fare in scratch resistance, which is much worse than previous versions of GG.

They don't use GG. They make their own version.

Anecdotal evidence.

Not once did I mention GG5, I was replying to a post that wasn't about GG5 either, stop trying to pick arguments with me like in the other thread. ;)

EDIT: LOL it was even you I was originally replying to SMH.

Your post has my quote, who were you replying to?

No, you cleverly avoided mentioning the GG5, that's completly different from previous glasses.

I was replying to you agreeing that iPhones hold up well in regards to scratches on the screen, this for some reason prompted you to tell me I've never had a GG5 phone... And talking about GG5.
